I designed Flash Cards: Math Facts for kids and parents; the kids get to practice arithmetic skills and parents get to tailor the needs and review progress. The app has a clean and simple interface without the distractions from gamification.

I have a new version of Flash Cards: Math Facts almost ready to release! There are two features I have worked on since the initial launch a year ago. Here is a link to the public beta via TestFlight, feedback is welcome and highly appreciated! https://testflight.apple.com/joi... New Features: First, I added some visibility into the data. While this feature isn't really exciting for the kids who are learning, it offers some insight for parents / teachers in 3 ways. Second, I added just a touch of animation. About the data: The first is data that displays the number of problems grouped by operation. I used this with my kids when I noticed subtraction was getting a little rusty. The second is data that displays accuracy. How many problems are solved the first time? This view really helped us with multiplication. When my kids were first learning multiplication, this really visualized how much practice was needed. It also became something my kids got excited to see as the "little red" slice got smaller and smaller. The third is the list of problems that have been missed more than three times. The app already keeps track of these problems and automatically includes them in future problem sets. This metric provides a view on how well each problem is improving. As each missed problem is answered correctly the first time, the graph shows the improvement. Once a problem is answered correctly six times, it is removed from the list. About the animation: One of my design goals for the app overall is to avoid gamification and make it quick and easy to use. No exploding fireworks, flashy stars, goofy characters or music. These animations are short and simple and hopefully add just enough to improve the usability experience.
