I am super impressed to see Flic’s new WiFi-connected Hub. The best part is that I can now open my smart home to guests. One question for the Flic team: How long has this been in the making, and when can we expect it to ship?
@_jacksmith Hey Jack, thanks for the hunt! Happy to hear that you're excited =)
We've been working on this for several months now and with the help of our backers we're now able to kickoff production and we're targeting an October delivery!
Being a Flic user, I am very exited about the Flic Hub but couple of things holding me. I am not sure why established companies still use startup campaigns, if you guys have sold enough before why not going in to the market with firm delivery date. These long delivery times with possible uncertainty keeps me away until the final launch in store...
@nilsej Thanks for sharing your thoughts. As a startup it is very riskful to just go ahead and design, manufacture and then have stock to sell. We have a strong community and they love to support us and it is also a great platform to introduce a new product. Based on the success of this campaign we can control everything from manufacture the correct amount and also know exactly what the community and our users would like us to implement in the product before sending it out. Without the indiegogo campaign we would not be able to do that in the same way so to speak.
Hope this explains it a bit more and I hope that you will become one of our backers, that would mean a lot to us and you will receive a better price than waiting for it.
Playing the devil's advocate here for a bit... with amazon, apple and google pushing for voice based tools like alexa why would someone use flic within their home instead of just asking alexa to book an uber or to do other things? I see the applications of flic within an office or within an factory where I cannot shout out to Alexa :)
@akhil_jp 1) Everyone is not comfortable with voice control. It's intrusive and awkward to many. 2) The best voice systems are not available in most parts of the world. 3) Even if they were to work outside of US, language and accents are big barriers. 4) Voice is terrible in open spaces such as offices, hotels, industries or homes with many people. 5) Many times, a button is much more intuitive and simple. Plus, you don't have to know/learn what to say.
Hey Hunters!
I am excited to celebrate the launch of Flic Hub with all of you! We launched the campaign 3 hours ago and we smashed our goal in just 1.5 hours!
Flic Hub together with Flic buttons let you control WiFi, Bluetooth & infrared devices without a smartphone.
It can connect to over 60 Flic buttons, enables instant response times, and with the Infrared accessory, Flic can now control your TV and entertainment system.
Now you can create a smart home that guests & family can control at the press of a button. Control your WiFi, Bluetooth or infrared devices & your favorite app services without your phone.
We’re truly excited about what you’ll be able to create with the Flic Hub.
We’re offering our Product Hunters a special 45% off deal to pre-order, so be sure to use this exact link when checking it out on Indiegogo: https://www.indiegogo.com/projec...
We are excited to hear what you think! Get in touch at support@shortcutlabs.com.
Neat idea. I worked in a smart home / IoT company before and I always thought that the way that IoT products are headed lacked "physical responsiveness." I like what Amazon did with Dash and I like what I see with Flic :) Good luck!
