Here is my test CV in Italian done on FlowCV - https://flowcv.io/resume/feedbac...

Pros:

Simplicity of use, flexibility, final design

Cons:

Add space control between sub-sections to make info more legible and orderly. I had to recur to using dots to create extra empty lines.

OK, I took it for a spin. Always happy to see a free CV building tool. It can really help job seekers who want to create a nice CV without paying the $$$. However, it seems that it creates a blank page for the profile section, how do I handle that? https://flowcv.io/resume/feedbac... A few helpful improvement will be the ability to format text, linking to social media sites and hyperlinking in the body. But if the blank page issue is resolved, I'd be more than happy to share it to my followers.

Hi @shyamantab, thanks for checking us out! Currently, we calculate page breaks by entries so that we can be sure that no resume entries are split between pages which would make it harder to read for recruiters. If there are entries in a resume (e.g professional experience) that take up a lot of height, they unfortunately get pushed down to the next page which could result in a lot of white space before that section. We are going to look into making the page break logic more context-aware! In the meantime, it could help to either - shift sections around - reduce the vertical height the sections take up by e.g. reducing line height or vertical padding - and the most radical one would be to create custom sections for longer entries or distribute the content for professional experience (e.g. to skills so that an individual entry doesn’t take up a lot of space) Of course, those are just meant as an immediate possible remedy and we will make sure to think hard about how to make the page break logic account for longer entries! Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks again for taking the time to give it a spin! 🙌

@alxjpzmn Thanks for your response. The fact that you've released this product for free means a lot in itself. We'll collectively try to make it better. When I interact with young professionals and students I always find that building a great CV is a real struggle for them. Wish you all the best! Will try the tips you shared and get back.

Thanks for your support & suggestions, already put them into our Kanban-board 🤗

Which industries use this resume format?
Alexander Zeman
@ntamboly we were aiming for creating a resume builder that can be used as universally as possible - no matter what language you want your resume to be in or which industry you are in 😊
Rodrigo Graça
Has 0 import options. Maybe import from LinkedIn? And as someone from Europe I'd appreciate if we could import the Europass format. (from a PDF)
Alexander Zeman
@rodrigograca31 thanks for your feedback :) we are currently working on a LinkedIn-import, sorry that it was missing for you.
Alexander Zeman
@rodrigograca31 we have started working on it already but it’s definitely not ready for primetime yet, I think it will take us another month or two to get right unfortunately :(
Andrea Gaffuri
Hi guys, is it possible to create more than one cv? Cause I need them not only in English but even in my native language. Thank you, great product
Alexander Zeman
Hi @andrea_gaffuri, thanks for trying FlowCV! We unfortunately do not support creating more than one resume (yet). We are evaluating it though because we get that feature request quite a lot :) Hint for getting two resumes in the meantime: you can create a different account under a separate eMail-Adress and change the displayed eMail on your resume so that they both show the same one 🤓 Thanks again & glad to have you on board!
Anna Filou
@andrea_gaffuri @alxjpzmn I second this! I’d like to have at least 3 resumes, 1 for each language I speak. Then it’d be great to be able to duplicate one of those and make some small changes before downloading it, so that it’s better suited for whichever company i happen to be applying for a position at. Perhaps you can introduce that as a paid option? But please not another subscription! You could let users “unlock resume slots” like: 10€ for 1 extra resume slot, 18€ for 2 extra slots, 25€ for 3 extra slots etc. So I pay 10 € once and I “unlock” a second slot, meaning I can have 2 resumes simultaneously and tweak each one as many times as I want. If I delete the second resume, the 2nd slot will be free and I’ll be able to create another resume or duplicate the main one. How about that? ☺️ I’d 100% pay for it and I’m sure many many others would too!
Alexander Zeman
@anna_0x, super cool idea - like it a lot! The reason we haven’t implemented multiple resumes is that we haven’t sufficiently thought about the UI/UX just yet. But clearly the demand is here, so we will work on it :)
Alexander Zeman
@anna_0x Big news: you can now create quickly create multiple versions of your resume with FlowCV! We are excited for you to take it for a spin & tell us what you think! 🤗
Bertold Kolics

The detault title of Certificate should be Certificates It would be nice to allow more customization of the header section where you can enter basic information about yourself I am missing references to sites such as GitHub, Stack Overflow, Twitter, etc It would be nice to have more templates In 2-column mode the formatting can be awkward if one section is really long (e.g. professional experience will likely flow over multiple pages with only a single column shown on some pages)

Pros:

Easy to use, intuitive user interface. Very easy to customize.

Cons:

Have more built-in sections, more templates, better flexibility placing photos

Jose Paul Martin
I like the concept, it will be great for students who are just passing out. Can you import from Linkedin?
Alexander Zeman
@jpmartin thanks, really appreciate it! 😊 not yet but its on the list - stay tuned!
Rens van Dongen
@jpmartin @alxjpzmn LinkedIn import for me would be a need-to-have. I'm done updating and syncing my resume copy manually, and my LinkedIn profile is my source of truth.
Jose Paul Martin
@alxjpzmn @mosymuis There is actually a feature in linkedin, to download the resume as a PDF version - and nicely formatted one too!
Rens van Dongen
@alxjpzmn @jpmartin Yes exactly, so that's what I'm using now. Therefore, for me to adopt a new resume-building tool (that allows for more visual tweaking for example, or creative layouts) should at least be able to use my LinkedIn-copy.

Hi, fellow Product Hunters 👋 After spending way too much time on creating our own resumes using InDesign, LaTeX and Word, we figured there's gotta be a more effective way to create an eye-popping resume 🤔 On the hunt for alternatives, we couldn't find a tool that is easy to use and highly customizable at the same time. So with FlowCV, we set out to bridge the gap between flexibility and convenience. It offers a default, proven design which you can freely customize to your personal needs (think: font size, US letter vs. A4, section order, page margins and much more) We welcome you to give it a spin yourself: you can try almost all functionality without even having to register an account. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on FlowCV & hope you have as much fun using it as we had building it. Please let us know what you think! 🤗

Recommending FlowCV to friends :)

@joaomainardes thanks a lot, really appreciate it! 🤩
Lauris Bernhart
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas!😀 Because people often ask this question.. Yes FlowCV is completely FREE!:)
Denis Shershnev
Great! Definitely will try it out
Alexander Zeman
@eulerr thanks a lot! :)
Dragos Ivanov
Congrats on the launch! Who made the UI & UX? It's very good!
Alexander Zeman
@ivandrag thanks, we couldn't be more humbled by the initial response thus far! @laurisbernhart & I both took care of UI & UX together mostly using Figma (www.figma.com). We really love & highly recommend it, as it makes the design process so much more collaborative. For us, it has literally been a game changer in the way we were able to put the product together while being remote from each other most of the time.

More details feedback in the comments. Love this! This product is so needed and there was not a good option at there that gets the basics right until now!

Pros:

Works! Bug free, really easy, beautiful interface

Cons:

Only 1 resume at a time :(

Alexander Zeman
Thank you so much for your kind review @anna_0x :) Really appreciate you rooting for us & we hope you saved some time by using FlowCV!
GalloDaSballo
This is the app I wish I had built! Props!
Alexander Zeman
Thanks a lot 🤗🙂 - we put a lot of work into it so we are absolutely stoked about your kind feedback! 🙌
Daniel Contreras

This app is amazing, allows you to create a CV in minutes that looks amazing, after a while I thought, this can't be true, I see no pricing anywhere, turns out it allowed me to download my CV, just like that! If I could describe this product, it would be “Too good to be true” the functionality is just amazing. Just a bit more customization and it's perfect

Pros:

Easy it is to create a CV here that looks amazing, plus the amount of sections it shows allows you to grow your CV even more.

Cons:

Different styles would be amazing and by that I mean like, templates. Other than that I'm looking forward to the evolution of this product

Alexander Zeman
Thank you so much for your kind review Daniel - much appreciated 🙌 we are having a lot more extensions in the pipe for letting users customize their resume –– so stay tuned!
Devin Gray

This is a great web app with a good idea to bring good looking CV's to people that need it

Pros:

It is easy to use and way better than the templates you get out there

Cons:

A little more customization would be great, but that looks like future updates

Lauris Bernhart
Thanks for your review Devin 🙌 We are indeed planning more customizations based on user feedback! We also have some sweet ideas ourselves - stay tuned🤓
Christopher Lee
The site itself and the illustrations look great! I wish the actual CV templates had more creative visual styles though. Seems still very plain and regular.
Alexander Zeman
Thanks for the feedback @christopher_lee4! We placed a lot of attention to starting out with CV designs & customizations that are as universal and effective as possible. We will of course add more customizations soon because we also want to provide users some more sass for their resumes 😉
Christopher Lee
@alxjpzmn No problem. By the way seeing as you just launched I have a market research service where for $12 you can ask 100 people a question then follow-up based on how they answered and even interview them! https://scoops.io/ You could ask e.g. "How much of a pain is it to design & standardize your resume when applying for jobs?" Anyway If you want to give it a shot I'll pass you $12 in free credits. Best of luck otherwise!
Alexander Zeman
@christopher_lee4 looks really cool! Yeah definitely, thanks! Will PM you!
Rajesh Kumar Nalla
Is flow CV open source ?
Lauris Bernhart
Hi @rajesh_kumar_nalla thank you for your question🙌 FlowCV is free to use for anybody and we will keep it free. The code itself is not open-source at the moment.
However we are actually playing with the thought of open sourcing certain parts of FlowCV in the future in connection with another product we have in mind!

I've been using for 2 years, it's just great

Why people still think it's reasonable to measure skills in a point chart is beyond my understanding. What exactly is 3/5 HTML? How does 3/5 InVision studio translate to my actual skills using the software? For a CV tool, I'd wish that such bogus options would not appear.
Alexander Zeman
Hi @filterfreak 👋, thanks for your feedback! We know that it can be hard for HR to decipher what exactly the candidate means by giving himself 4/5 stars for a skill. That's why we encourage our users via tips to provide more information on the rating they gave themselves for a skill. And of course we offer the possibility to completely hide the skill bar 🙂 At the same time, we believe that it contributes to an easily scannable resume that invites readers/HR to skim through the skills quickly. That's why we offer the skill bar.
Anna Filou
@filterfreak true but it’s completely optional, thank god! Point charts are actually useful when it comes to languages though.
Renga Vasan
@anna_0x For languages it will be better to say if the creator can read, write a particular language. I believe putting that on a CV will add more clarity than a Point chart.
Alexander Zeman
@anna_0x @renga_vasan of course we support that as well ;)
