Hi PH community,
I’ve seen countless devs build admin panels but I’ve always felt building and maintaining them was a bothersome thing to do.
That's why I'm really excited by what my friends at Forest Admin are building. They provide a universal admin panel available as a SaaS service.
They are launching today a native compatibility for Ruby on Rails apps in addition to their existing Node.js offerings. It only takes about two minutes to install, and it’s completely free, so check them out, and let me know what you think!
Thank you so much @dessaigne — we’re excited to be back on Product Hunt once again!
I’m Sandro, CEO and Founder of Forest Admin, and I’d be happy to answer any questions you have! We’ve been having a great run with Forest Admin since we started in 2017, and are really excited to be expanding our offering and to be able to help more and more people build great admin panels with no effort at all.
The release of this Rails gem is a special occasion for us, as we’re now able to support one of the most used stacks in the world, as well as a huge developer community. Rails has powered amazing startups like AirBnB and Twitter, and here at Forest Admin, we want to help you become the next huge success story!
We hope you find our new offering to be useful, and are really excited to hear what you think of it!
We are using Forest Admin since day 1 of Magma app and we are so happy about it. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to spend more time on our core business and save time of our devs 🙂.
@jorisrenaud Hi Joris! So glad to hear you have such great experiences with us, and thank you for your continued support! Here's to many more hours saved! 🙂
Wasn’t Forest Admin already RoR compatible ? I have used it in the past has a paid customer for a few RoR projects. Is it a different product from the team ? If so what’s the difference ? The original Forest was pleasant to use and I would reuse it, though since then I have been using administrate when needed, and lately looking at Chris Oliver’s madmin
@lorismaz Hi Loris! We did in fact have a private RoR offering in the past as well, however, it was discontinued a good while ago. This new gem is a more fleshed-out and improved feature, something that we took to a larger scope than the previous one!
Our new features include roles to handle permissions, dynamic smart action forms, dev workflow to handle frontend version controlling, and many other things. You can find out more about it on our Rails page here: https://www.forestadmin.com/rails
@lorismaz Bringing the best onboarding experience is one of my top priority so any feedback is more than welcomed! Thank you very much for your comment!
I definitely recommend this product if you need an admin interface for your Rails app. I use it for all my projects, it's easy to install and to use, and includes advanced features to help you manage your business from your admin interface.
@nico_lrx Thank you so much for recommending us, Nicolas! We really appreciate the kind words — it's always such a pleasure to hear just how impactful Forest Admin can be for developers and businesses.
I first got acquainted with Forest Admin for Rails while attending a @lewagonparis bootcamp. It is amazing how easy it is to setup. Definitely low code at its best!
This looks great! We've started building a custom admin app, and frankly it has been taking us longer than I had anticipated. Seems like Forest Admin would have allowed us to move much faster. Congratulations for your launch and good luck!
Our team really enjoys working with the entire Forest Admin crew.
We detailed one of our use cases with Forest here:

Looking forward to many more projects together!
@robin_choy absolutely! We cover NodeJS with 2 separate options depending on your database. With Forest, you can generate an admin REST API leveraging express/sequelize (for MsSQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL) or express/mongoose (for MongoDB).
