Super interesting! And I imagine really useful for a ton of people. How are you determining the ease of *starting up*? What is that based on? Also, are the areas color coordinated in a certain way or are these random colors? Couldn't find a legend.
@imcatnoone Thanks Cat. The Founded X community has 'startup curators' in each of these countries. They've chosen an appropriate color for their country (for example orange for Holland). We try to use as much sources as possible to verify all the data. The 'ease of startup up' is based upon a few measures: ease of funding, cost of living, etc. And ultimately checked by the local curator. Check out all the local lists on http://foundedx.com
How many sources did you reference on each category for each Country?
I'm a little concerned about the accuracy of the data (in particular for Denmark and Norway)
For example: It's SO much easier to raise funding in Denmark than Norway, yet Denmark is 'hard' and Norway 'medium'. And beer is not $3.5 in Denmark, it's more like $7+
My concern is that anyone with a passing knowledge of these Countries startup scenes knows this, so what sources have you used to get this information?
I guess going public with this will see the data improved by people contributing, if you can nail the accuracy then I think this will be extremely valuable, great job.
@neilswmurray Hi Neil, Thanks for your feedback. We've used as many resources as possible and use our entire community to check the data on accuracy. However, I can see that there's still a lot to improve on. There're still a few important countries missing and some data might be incomplete or inaccurate as you mentioned.
However, we encourage anyone to help us improve on the data. Therefore we've openen up our base spreadsheet to anyone that would like to add something. You can comment and we've people on it to process all comments asap.
Thanks again and we'll keep working to improve the data!
Great work!
I would just underline the fact that country-wide indicators are not ideally relevant since there are strong cost disparities between large and smaller cities in most countries. For example, $150 office rental and $4 beers in Paris would be great, but those are more at a 2x / 3x factor here.
@btair Nomad List focuses on digital nomads that work remotely. This stats overview was created for people that would like to start a business somewhere else. That doesn't have to be remote workers. Therefore, some of the data is different. Although there's probably some overlap I assume.
Just a tip on 'Registration Fee' for company formation, could be a bit misleading since a few countries (Sweden for one) has a reg fee (216 USD) but they also ask for a minimum amount of share capital to be purchased on creation (which gets locked up into the company), which is currently 5707 USD. Might be worth including Minimum Share Capital or something similar as a field.
Awesome initiative! Really comprehensive list of data already.
Would be awesome to see "the top country" from my perpective—cause it is different from your origin country (eg getting a Visa), right?
Digging the visual style too (also for Founded in X)!
@eelcojellema That's right it differs per country. Now we only mention general information. For example a general startup visa. I think most information in generic but there are indeed a few exceptions.
Hi guys,
We're uncovering local startup scenes with Founded X every day. Traveling between countries is so easy these these days and working remotely is becoming more popular with trends such as digital nomadism and entrepreneurial retreats. Only starting a business in a foreign country can still be a hassle. We’re going to change that.
If you're looking to start up on the other side of the world you can now jump in the Founded X Startup Statistics and find your perfect startup location. All countries in the world have their own unique advantages and characteristics. With our Startup Stats page you’re able to sort on the cost of starting a business, the availability of a startup visa or the price of a beer.
These statistics will help you not only to discover new startup scenes but also become part of them. In the future we will continue to expand its functionality with more information and adding new ways for startup founders to connect worldwide.
We've gathered the information together with our entire community and we're thankful for all their efforts! We're very curious to hear what you think about this next step for our platform. Thanks!
And don't forget to check out our article on Business Insider: http://www.businessinsider.com/s...
@joshuaoxj It was great to work all together on this. Took some time to get it live but now everybody can use it more conveniently than in the excel that we made ;-)
@mvdheuvel@_n1ks Ukraine added , check the Spread sheet from Starup Stats Page !
Yes we have plan to cover up the whole world . Invite your friends join with us ! Thanks
@mvdheuvel Hi Maarten, good job on this.
Although I'd like to know from where was taken the data.
For example in Italy:
Ease of funding: Easy
Ease of starting up: Medium
I would replace it with: Nearly Impossible, Hard. But of course, since are qualitative judgements, is just my personal opinion. :)
@sandersaar we've tried to standardize the data wherever possible. We're currently in the process of validating all the data. It's a work in progress. As well as adding new countries. Estonia is high on our list. If you can help out, feel free to apply to start Founded in Estonia via http://foundedx.com. Thanks! :-)
Can see this being a really useful startup tool once the data accuracy/ detail is nailed. To aid this, maybe you could have country/city specific community managers? Also, in terms of the "Britain" listing - it would be more of an intuitive search if you listed the description as "Great Britain" or "UK".
@simonmactaggart Fair point. We're working around the clock to improve the accuracy. And we'll expand to regional/city specific details in the future. Thanks!
