Franz 2.0 — Desktop app for Slack, WhatsApp, Skype, Telegram, Messenger
Featured
140

Franz 2.0 is a desktop app that puts messaging services altogether in one place. It can combine apps like WhatsApp, Slack, Facebook Messenger, WeChat, HipChat, Skype and a lot more. You can even use multiple accounts for the Facebook Messenger - mix your business profiles and your private ones if you need to.

Add apple imessage please!!!!
Paul Hart
@abe_storey agreed! native apple messages on osx inclusion would have me shutting messages and running everything through franz!
Stefan Malzner
@roamlocally @abe_storey we are working on a couple experiments regarding iMessage. I can't promise anything yet but we'll see :)

I wonder how performant it is? For slack I have 3 groups... will it be slow?
Stefan Malzner
@datarade don't worry it won't be slow :) Especially if you are using different services like WhatsApp, Slack, Skype, Telegram, ... at once, the cpu/memory footprint is better.

Looks like a cool app. Wish the icon didn't look like a butt though :)
Justin Mitchell
Only downfall of me using Franz over Slack's app is that http://jmitch.com/serenity no longer works. @smalzner would love to integrate the app with Franz. Sometimes I need to mute those pesky notification sounds!
Stefan Malzner
@itsthisjustin we will add more customization options soon and muting the notification sound is one of them :)

Bad: It's a wrapper for web apps. Good: Hey, it works surprisingly well.

I don't even want to think about how many messaging clients I'd need to have open if I didn't have Franz. Great work!
Nick Nish
This is awesome - Definitely been hitting the point where I'm spread out on too many disparate message platforms. Will try this out and report back!
Ariel Jalali
Great job getting us closer to universal inbox! Gonna connect all my messengers and then add @sensay to them to go beyond my contact lists

A couple of questions -- 1. Is there a logon password so that this can be used on a shared, family computer for example? 2. Is there a way to make Franz portable so that installation is not required?

Last time I looked at Franz, it did not include front-end authentication for starting the app and accessing all the connected IM services. Are there plans to support multiple profiles w/ their own IM accounts?

I've used this every day since the original launch! Great update, keep it up 👌🏼

Been using Franz for a few weeks now - 2 Slack teams, Skype, Messenger and Wechat. Downloading the update now.

Oh wait. Confused. Franz 2.0 is the Windows Linux beta, Franz Mac is still 0.9.10 beta?
Stefan Malzner
@frassmith 0.9.10 on our website is 2.0 – we are currently changing our versioning to show progress in a less confusing way @__tosh was just a bit faster than we were :)
originell
@frassmith That also got me startled a bit. My guess is that if you see WeChat (Gitter etc.) support you are actually having 2.0, even though it says 0.9.1. Not sure though. cc @smalzner
Stefan Malzner
@originell @frassmith we changed our versioning, internal it's still 0.9.10 = 2.0 our website is now updated to reflect the changes. Sorry for confusing anyone.

Dont see lot of value added to the existing chrome tabs I am using, it feels like I am using one more windows with only chat software tabs open
Stefan Malzner
@nilsej let's start with Franz allows multiple accounts of one service, integrates native notifications with muting/customization options, it's easy to tab-to, doesn't get closed by accident and we are constantly updating Franz with new features that will make messaging much easier. If you want to compare Franz with Chrome then yes, it's "just" a browser but with a huge difference: Franz is actually optimized for the use with messenger/communication services.

I absolutely love Franz! I am craving a feature however - auto logout. I often leave my mac on al night and with that I leave Franz running meaning in the morning i have a pile up of messages that look like they have been read. It be awesome If I could set a timezone in which Franz logs out and then logs back on again. I don't know how tricky this would be to implement but I would be truly grateful if you managed it. Keep up the great work guys,
Alex King
Such a brilliant app.
PASCAL TIEMANN
@smalzer you have to charge money for this. This is so awesome. Telegram is a little buggy but what's app and fb messenger rock solid.
Stefan Malzner
@pascaltiemann we will, soon-ish :)
Amit Bajaj
I can't believe I'm just coming across this app now. It's just brilliant and I've added in Whatsapp, Telegram, Skype, Slack, LinkedIn, Facebook Messenger and Facebook Pages. I'm a big user of Allo and although that doesn't have a web client just yet (I'm hoping it does soon), please can we add that in the moment it's ready? :) Also, it would be fantastic if we could have iMessage (not sure if that's allowed) and Twitter DMs + Mentions? Keep up the amazing work
Dima Grebennikov
Good idea! Do you planning support other messengers in future updates? Like a Viber or similar
Zach Herbert
If only it was possible to integrate with iMessage :)
Stefan Malzner
@zachherbert we are already testing various approaches to offer iMessage support :)

Major new update of Franz: now comes with clients for Windows and Linux (used to be Mac only) as well as support for 6 new messaging platforms (WeChat, Chatwork, Steam, Gitter, Discord, GroupMe). 😍
Ben Tossell
@__tosh Changelog doesn't say 2.0 ... http://www.meetfranz.com/changel...
Stefan Malzner
@bentossell, @ricricucit, @__tosh we have now updated our website to reflect our new versioning system. If you are running on 0.9.10 you are already running 2.0 – with the next update this versioning change will be visible within Franz as well. Sorry for confusing you.
Alex Scott
@__tosh This is killer. Easy access without flipping between tabs or stand alone apps is a huge convenience. Look forward to customizing notification sounds...

@__tosh How is the data stored for all these API channels?
