It's like if Vercel and Docker had a baby: You write VM configurations in a language that looks like a Dockerfile, and every commit creates a preview environment that can be "promoted" to a production site.
Hey Product Hunt fam 👋 Cofounder of webapp.io here!
We're so excited to offer a new product in 2023: free full-stack hosting for custom web applications. Since Heroku took away its free hosting plan, we decided to launch a free alternative to continue making it accessible for software developers to create side projects, launch a new company or even learn development for the first time.
With webapp.io’s deployment via our virtual machines, you get access to the following:
- Free virtual machines
- Webapp.io’s quickstart experience that makes coldstarts feel hot
- Custom domains (including wildcard domains) or launch with our ".onwebapp.io" domain
- Free SSL and Automated Certificate Management for TLS
- Debugging terminal to debug your virtual machine (paid service on other providers)
- Virtual machine analytics (CPU, Disk, Memory)
- Preview environments on every commit
- Built-in CI/CD

We're so excited to hear your feedback + to see what you build next! ✨
Really excited to try this out. I've been using webapp.io for our CI/CD for a long time now, and it's extremely fast, and with great visibility and full console access to every step. Adding Hosting is a perfect addition.
I use Vercel a lot but they really don't give you much visibility into what's running, and viewing logs in real time is a pain without setting up a bunch of additional services. Excited to try this for both side projects and our production apps.
@nikita_v Thank you so much for being a long time user Nikita! Visibility is so important, we noticed it's often a paid feature for a lot of production hosting alternatives. Super excited for you to try it out to see the full benefits as a CI-first user :)
This is amazing. I’ve used Heroku for quick and seamless MVP deployments since 2015 but recently have had to settle for some amalgamation of Netlify/Vercel/etc for quick dev branch deployments. And even then run into countless errors with deprecated dependencies, versioning issues, you name it. Super excited to try out!!
@melissa_du2 Thanks for this question! I'd say it's very focused on full stack webapps vs. like an all in one solution - it focuses on visibility (ie you get a debugging terminal built-in) and also on speed (near instant coldstarts).
Congrats Lyn and Team! This looks incredible and I cannot wait to use it. During my last hackathon we tried using Heroku to host our product, but were disappointed when we found out they took away their free plan. This is a fantastic alternative and I'm looking forward to checking it out!
@brett_mcgonigal1 Thank you so much, Brett!! Sorry to hear the Heroku change affected your workflow but happy to be a new home to your awesome future hackathon projects to come!
