I’m Charles, an iOS developer living in Paris. I’m glad to share Fridge Buddy with you today. Fridge Buddy help you to reduce your food waste by reminding you when your food is close to it's expiration date
🤔 Problem
I’ve wanted to reduce my food waste. I’m often cooking, and sometimes I forgot food in the fridge, when I realize it is too late and I have to trash it. Since I don’t like to trash food, I searched an app to help me keeping track of my food expiration date. I’ve found a few but everytime there is something that I don’t like. Sometime the app is really too complicated, too many features that I will not use at all or sometime the app looks old and not intuitive. So I decided to develop my own version.
🛠 Solution
I developed Fridge Buddy with two main objectives. I’ve wanted a minimalist app, that display only what I need and nothing else (product name / picture and time remaining before expiration). Register a new product must be as quick as possible. All of this should be in a modern looking application that follow the Apple's Human Interface Guidelines.
Fridge Buddy Features
Notification for each product tracked approaching its expiration date
Custom lists of products in addition to the default ones (refrigerator, pantry)
Product barcode scan, you only have to enter the expiration date
Food Waste ratio, you can view and track your ratio of consumed / trashed products

I’m currently working on a widget to display the products with a close expiration date on the iPhone Today view. I’m planning to release this update this week !
