When you're building a new products, user feedback is critical. You can gather feedback in a variety of ways, through in-person customer development interviews, surveys, and by simply looking at the data. I'm particularly fond of doing user testing (UserTesting is an awesome tool for this) although its only a "simulation" of what your users are actually doing.

FullStory captures a screen recording of your site visitor's actions and behavior within (cue Steve Irwin impression) their natural environment. We've used it many times at Product Hunt to better understand how people are using new or beta features we're building. It's πŸ‘πŸΌ.

Pros:

A "super power" for user research

Cons:

Often the video stream remains static when the user opens a new tab, pauses

beat me to it by a second :)

Should also check out @Heap, @fullstory, You guys could make magic if you teamed up.

If their was a way to hook this into mobile iOS or Android I'd jump on it in a second. Seriously.
Alex West
@aj_mihalic yeah! I keep hoping, thinking they'll do that. But native code is so much trickier than html to 'record'.

We use FullStory at RelateIQ for the support process. It's radical.

@jgw β€” Is FullStory going beyond event tracking and activity recording? I am curious because I have used similar tools in the past but never found them an adequate replacement for usability testing.
Joel Webber
@muldster : At present we're still focused on recording sessions and tracking events, but it's still early days. We have a lot of ideas about higher level analysis, but would love to hear where such tools have failed you in the past, and what you'd like to see.

Impressive -- ProductHunt has been driving a decent percentage of our site traffic today. Please come on over and sign up if you're interested!

@jgw Your product's literally saved us hours of work a day to find problems. Thanks for making it awesome :)

Pros:

The best way to watch how your users use your app or website. Great UI and immediate value.

Cons:

Not enough ways to frame data beyond searching "Who did what". Do I need this AND Mixpanel?

Bill Lewis
killer app $199 a month to start is pricey should be a deal for startups
Evan Kimbrell
@jgw This looks awesome but for $199 / month I'm going to stay on the fence

This was a godsend. Amazing product, it helped us catch bugs we couldn't see before

If your engineering team so much as flinches at the task, .. You need a new engineering team n_n

They do one thing instead of many, and they do it well, but the pricing model didn't work all that well for us. Besides, it's still one step behind Amplitude and the likes in terms of seeing the customer journey. I would still recommend them for the search function.

Pros:

OmniSearch is amazing

Cons:

Never got the pricing to match value right. Also, good luck setting up an umbrella account if you're running several sites.

Out of all the analytics tools we use (segment, mixpanel, intercom, fullstory...) fullstory delivers probably more value in terms of finding out where the issues are because you're not guessing... you don't need to make wild assumptions about graphs. You just watch.

Pros:

Very clear qualitative data on your users

Cons:

It can be hard to see users interfaces on slower connections
