๐Ÿ‘‹ Hey PH! Today I'm excited to finally share Game Quitters with you. For over 10 years I struggled with a video game addiction which caused me to drop out of high school, never go to college, and pretend to have jobs deceiving my family. Eventually I wrote a suicide note and it was that night when I realized I needed to make a change. When I searched for help online I didn't find any, and instead I found suggestions like "to study more" or to "hang out with my friends" - advice that sounds good but doesn't work. After recovering from my own addiction I shared my story in a blog post and heard from thousands of other people who were also struggling and wanted help. So I launched Game Quitters. Here's how it works: โšฝ๏ธ New Hobby Ideas We have an interactive tool to help you find new hobbies. There are over 70 activity ideas and 12 filters to choose from. ๐Ÿ“น 200+ Videos Over the years I've seen hundreds of different questions on how to quit, and we have over 200 videos documenting each of them. Everything from how to deal with cravings, to what will happen to your gamer friends, to how to stop mindlessly browsing the internet, to dealing with nostalgia, and more. ๐Ÿ’ฌ Community Forum Journaling about your experience can be very helpful, not only for yourself but to also receive support from peers. On the forum we have over 2,000 people interacting and exchanging tips and strategies, including in six languages. ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿผโ€๐Ÿ’ป๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿฝโ€๐Ÿ’ป Real Stories I'm just an example of one person who struggled with this addiction, and there are many others just like me. We now have over 70 published stories from former addicts sharing what helped them quit gaming and turn their lives around. ๐Ÿ’ฐ Paid Programs Although 99% of the website is free and you can find all of the answers you are looking for without paying a dime, we have a paid ($27-$47) program for gamers and a paid ($97-$197) program for parents/loved ones which are structured step-by-step exactly what you need to do to quit with additional bonuses. ---- For more info see http://gamequitters.com I'd be happy to answer any questions!

Big respect for what you're up to Cam. Inspiring to hear your story and how you're helping others take back control of their lives. Wish you all the best with your launch ๐Ÿš€

@fredrivett Thanks brother!

Looks like a great idea. I stay away from video games precisely because I am aware of my own addictive personality. It's easy for me to become obsessively interested in something ---- ohhh, shiny. While that can be great for learning, it can also be hugely detrimental.
Cam Adair
@andreasduess Thanks Andreas! It's easy for me too so I'm really careful with "addictive" things.

@maxnachamkin Thanks bro!

Games are fun when played for the right amount of time otherwise it quickly becomes an addiction. Cam is doing great work by making people realise about Game Addiction & how to quit them. Quit playing games & make time for the most important people in your life ๐Ÿ˜‰
Cam Adair
@deadcoder0904 Yes I agree they can be played in moderation in a healthy way but for some it's a bigger problem.
Akshay Kadam(A2K)

Cam himself is a gaming addict so he knows how it wastes time which can be used to do something productive. Best thing about GQ is it has helped lots of people recover from Gaming Addiction. Great work Cam ๐Ÿ™Œ

Pros:

Makes time for important things in your life

Cons:

Sometimes games are fun when played for right amount of time ๐Ÿ˜‰

The problem is not in the games. The problem is in the weak people who abuse games, drugs, food, sex, porn, alcohol, damn every shit that releases dopamine.
Cam Adair
@tapkain mental illness is not a weakness. ignorance is though.

As a former 'video game addict' myself, I can't overstate how important I think this project is. I never used Game Quitters myself, but I wish I had. I wish that I had found Game Quitters when I was younger, as Video Games were essentially the only thing I was living for. Video Games prevented me from getting outside and experiencing the world when I needed it most - when I was a deeply unhealthy kid who couldn't walk and who had been hospitalised and away from people his own age for a few years. Some things, like social interaction, I still struggle with today, and I wonder if that would have been the case if I quit video games. I'm lucky that my path in life moved me away from Video Games, but I know others aren't so lucky. This is why I think the world needs Game Quitters to raise awareness of these issues. I met Cam two months ago, and just by my interactions with him, I realised that even after a year since I last played a video game, it still has a big effect on my lifestyle and thought patterns. I've found Cam's Game Quitters YouTube channel helpful in indentifying those problems. I think it says a lot that when I wanted to learn web development, the first thing I made was from a video game. And even now, I still find myself watching videos and streams of gaming from time to time, and Cam's work has helped me to realise my actions are having a negative impact on my life.

@jet_holt Thanks for sharing bro! So glad you were able to break away from gaming in your life. Otherwise we wouldn't be able to *handshake fistbump* ๐Ÿ˜‚

One of the hobby suggestions to do something other than gaming was to learn a new language, unfortunately the site suggested (Duolingo) is very triggering as it has game- like Rewards on it

Pros:

Great info & wisdom & support re: gaming addiction. Very supportive!!

Cons:

Too much geared to teenagers & young adults-needs to appeal to middle age & older people too! Also, no phone support- all chaT.

Cam Adair
Thanks Jennifer. Gearing it for specific people/ages is tough, especially adding parents/loved ones into the mix. The majority of people on the website are males 18-32, but I try to keep it as open and accessible to everyone (for instance, we recently changed most of the language towards parents to loved ones instead), and tried to remove teenagers/young adults as well. Any other tips on that feel free to let me know. Always looking to improve it. Will look for an alternative suggestion to Duolingo.

This is a great resource for helping yourself or loved ones who are dealing with Video Game addictions. It addresses the problem and gives suggestions on what to do with that newly freed up time and how to deal with cravings. There is information for parents with how to deal with a child that has this problem as well.

Pros:

There is a ton of information on how to deal with cravings and how to fill your time without games. It helps with understanding the issue.

Cons:

None at this time.

Thanks Cutler!

To some of us, games are a nightmare. There are people who enjoy drinking as well there are alcoholics. Those of us who are 'gameaholics' the only way to live a normal and fulfilling live is to admit our handicaps and quit gaming for good. This is the only resource I've known that addresses the core reasons of our problems and provides effective solutions.

Pros:

The only truly effective way to quit gaming and improve your life from the hand of a worldwide top gamer.

Cons:

I don't have anything to recriminate them.
