Are AI productivity apps, powered by Generative AI, taking over the market?

You can consider most of these apps as experimental. I still believe that more traditional AI apps would pop up in near future. They are probably working on more complex and structured products.

Yes, there definitely is flooding of LLM based products in the market. There are two primary reasons behind it: 1. Its the buzzword. Due to this being the most trending topic and obviously combined with the enormous application of it, everyone is rushing towards it. 2. Don’t want to miss the train. Since GenAI has enormous application to the extent that every business is going to use it in one way or another, people want to develop products while it still is new. 3. Due to Prompt Engg, developing GenAI based product has become highly commoditised. Now, non-tech people can also develop a GenAI based application. So, potentially anyone with an idea can develop a product without being dependent on someone else. Although its a buzzword, GenAI is going to keep growing for a very long time. Yes, the speed may correct itself in time but it will keep growing. This tech is more like electricity which will be used to run a company in one way or another.

they seem to be taking over, but tbh I hardly found any of these gen-AI infusions in productivity tools useful. I mean, it's a different thing if these apps were to build their own LLMs but Grammarly GO which is probably running with OpenAI APIs isn't as much exciting for me.

It's a buzzword. How many blockchain apps do you still use today? Everything in 2021/2022 HAD to be on the block chain. Don't get me wrong, I love AI (well, Generative NLP, let's not declare it as intelligent, it's still code at the end of the day) but you gotta see it for what it is. it can do a lot of cool things, but once you get off your screen, what how is generative NLP helping you?

The tech is new! New means that there probably aren't incumbents already dominating the space so it makes sense as an area of innovation. Productivity seems like a good area for it too - doesn't need to be 100% effective and it's definitely a valuable space

In my humble (and very resumed) view these will be tools that (1) will increase productivity, (2) however in speicific fields. So far from what we've seen, mostly related to content creation. (1) Every tool used to increase productivity is here to stay. That's how the world has evolved and still evolves since the Industrial Revolution: increase productivity and cut production costs with a simple goal in mind: abundance of goods and services. (2) I don't think it is any close to human inteligence and therefore, even though is capable of a level of complexitiy in mixing previous knowledge, it is limited in it's reasoning capacity. It couldn't have reached Plato's conclusion "I Think, Therefore I Am". Also, it is highly limited in the scope of action (outside computers, LLMs are pretty useless). Also, I don't think it would be able to make the subtle tweak to catch those ones who don't know that the saying I refered to belongs to Descartes.

I think that's where it's going, on the other hand it's nice that we're going to be more productive, but on the other hand I think it's not like that at all and we're getting lazier, which I don't want to happen.

What excites me the most is the ability to adapt and deploy my SaaS app model to various niches. With generative AI business model, I can easy pivot or expand my product based on market demand or emerging trends. So yes, generative AI is definitely the buzz right now, but it's a buzz that comes with substantial benefits for both makers and users. There is a lot of space to take if you tailor the right generation for the right target. That's only my personal point of view of course.
