Do free tools make more money or paid tools?

It's free, but you can also pay cash if you want. It's free but has premium options. Or starting freemium first and then converting to paid. Maybe you should totally make it paid at the very beginning. Which do you think is better?

Since releasing our Free version, most customers have been using that. I'm hoping they will switch eventually, but it's not been a relatively costly experiment so far :)

Start from free version and if people like then can go with paid version .... According to me this is good way ...... if you are popular due to your feature then can use option of paid version from begining.
