There are two schools of thoughts on this:
a) Ask potential customers, partners to validate ideas - the most common route for modern non-unicorn, me-to, products
b) Build for need that you realize is worthy for yourself - the unpopular but most satisfying route - Steve Jobs to Linus Torvalds tool this approach.
Apart from asking potential users, we like also to talk with industry experts to know its opinion. Because, sometimes users feedback is limited on the specific problems the have now, and an innovative solution can be hard to visualize sometimes
@karolina_brach we try to obtain the most valuable feedback, so we not look for too much opinions. Once we identify which users are most valuable for us, we spend time to get their feedback, if possible in a meeting. What about you?
Research market trends, competition, and potential for growth to get data on demand for a particular product or idea. And by getting direct feedback from your target users by presenting the basic version of your product before investing.
