I would not be a big fan of that, it would lead to excessive inbound.
I have a LinkedIn and Twitter on my profile so people that want to connect with me already have different channels where they can do so.
It would be good as well as bad. Good for connecting with new people but you will end getting exhausted checking your inbox full of support requests. So, I don't think that's a great idea. However, in my opinion, PH is slowly dying. It seems like they are not supporting startups now. Heard a lot about it from different founders on LinedIn
@naveed_rehman Just the top ones. For example, they don't list all the launches on the home page now. Only a few of them. Others stay in the Bootstrapped or Solo Maker section.
I was just talking about this earlier this week with @emna_ghariani1 who thought PH already has this, which proves how important it is and how much smoother discussions with fellow makers and hunters would be!
As much as I like the idea, I think the main issue will be the moderation and making sure there is no bad content in the chat. Maybe the community could make a recommendation with moderators coming from inside the community.
Or the community organizes a chat outside of PH. That would be an option, but also needs planning.
If there is a serious interest though, my devs could set up something in the beginning of the new year and we could host an unofficial PH chat which, obviously, can be handed over to PH any time. As mentioned before it would need some people willing to put in time.
@naveed_rehman That might be a solution. However in the past these AI "moderators" have been not reliable yet, allowing hate speech and deleting content on the other hand. Especially with PH and all its new products / innovvations, I am not sure an AI could handle. It could be something we try out together. Moderators using AI sounds cool to me... Great suggestion though. Maybe someone with more insight want to chime in on this?
I'm all for strengthening the Product Hunt community! A well-designed chat feature could foster deeper connections, collaborations, and even friendships among hunters. Plus, it could provide valuable feedback channels for makers.
What about a hybrid approach? Instead of full-blown chat, consider implementing temporary comment threads under each product or threaded replies to existing comments. This would offer focused discussion without cluttering the interface.
@naveed_rehman I didn't think of that tbh, ofcourse there can be an easy integration. But I would assume that there is a reason PH doesn't have a chat feature. It would make them much more like a social media on integrating it that's for sure!
