Remote VS in-office

Office culture is being hated, I can see people quitting their jobs due to return to office policy (https://nypost.com/2022/05/18/ap...). What are your thoughts?

All our team works remotely for more than 3 years and I love it!

@ram_rk as for me and our team, it's much harder to work in-office. All our team are asking us to work remotely because it's a more comfortable format for all of them

I've been loving the remote model . Hybrid sounds nice as well. But I do feel with costs of everything going up, for now I still prefer the remote model.

@ram_rk I think as startups , for the last 2 years, we had to find ways to collaborate and innovate with alternative solutions for remote, else the startup wouldn't have worked at all. I think a lot of people still prefer office work, so I think hybrid model for now might be solution. I think as remote work becomes a reality more and more, how to remote work will be more clear. Remember, we were working remotely but it wasn't like we could move out to even have recreation activities for past 2 years. We were locked up. So it also wasn't true remote work. I think lot of people want to move out of the house and hence preferring office work.

I've been remote for 12 years and loved it until mid-covid. Now it's too much of a good thing. Like cake for dinner for a month. I might be ready to go hybrid.

People I'm talking to that leave their jobs are being 'forced' to be at the office, in an 8-5 capacity. To me, the right answer is a hybrid model, with agreed-upon times where teams are in the office collaborating, and allowing employees the flexibility they need to live their lives. We're all adults and should be given flexibility as long as the quality of work doesn't suffer.

It still depends on the company/employee if they want office or remote work. Some people prefer remote since they some are very far from their office and it's less hassle to prep up and commute. I've been working remote for 2 years already and I can say that I'm very comfortable with it.

I don't think there is anything wrong with working in an office if nobody is forced to do it. Suppose companies start forcing their employees to return to the office. In that case, this might happen because many people are very comfortable working from home, so they prefer it over office work. I prefer a hybrid work system.

For me personally, wfh works better. I have more control over my time and what I do. Having said that most companies make the mistake of working the same way remotely as in-office and hence it does not work. When we decided to go remote, we had to make a lot of changes. We are not there yet and learning every day how to get better at working remotely.
