Teamwork or solo
Working with a team can slow down your pace in that it often requires more communication and coordination than working alone.
When you're working solo, you can make decisions quickly and act on them without having to get input or buy-in from others.
In a team setting, however, you need to make sure that everyone is on the same page and that decisions are made collectively. This can take time, especially if there are differing opinions or perspectives among team members.

Let's look at this as a sports. Even when you are playing a solo sports like Tennis, you have a coach, trainers, managers, your family and people who support all around you. But you have to perform well at the individual level for your team to be successful. If you truly want to win the game and the industry, solo won't take you far. It has to be done with the team, however, you will be accountable for the quality of the solo work you perform. Hope this makes sense.
I think there is a very good saying out there, which is a nice answer to your question:
If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.
