Not a leader or a founder, but from what I've seen, big wins often come from killer team culture and quick pivots. Failures? Bad hires and ignoring customer feedback.
I am very glad that I was able to unite a team around me, with which we are already working on several startups together. It's incredibly cool when you've been on the same team for so long that you don't even remember when you started. 😃
biggest successes or failures as a leader can't be solely measured in financial returns.
money is a scoreboard, sure. but it's also a lagging indicator. it tells part of the story.
success? when i've empowered my team to be autonomous, we've often seen revenue grow. but it's more than that. it's about building a culture that sustains that growth.
failures? there were times when i prioritized short-term gains that sacrificed long-term stability. the numbers looked great, until they didn't.
and, financials are like the wake of a boat. they show where you've been, not where you're going.
it's the invisible, intangible assets — trust, culture, team dynamics — that often determine your financial trajectory.
so ask not just about the money made or lost. ask what was built or broken along the way.
Success to me is measured by how successful the culture you are fostering on daily basis. Failures are part of the journey. You cannot expect success in the long run without failure along the way.
