Very excited to see great community tools like this, built from the ground up for this modern age. This is just the beginning and I'm excited to see where the team goes from here. You could've seen these trendlines happening a few years ago as folks cobbled together so many different platforms to try and give their people what they want -- now enter: Geneva.

You're amazing @alexisohanian. Thank you so much for the support. It means the world to the team and I ❤️

This app is great for communication. Most of all, I like the feature that it permits you to make groups of different interests, and everyone interested can join the groups and share their ideas. I found it a year ago. I was browsing a website where you can download APK files. I saw this app, and this was the first communication app that costs money I saw in my life. I was interested in what it represents. Now I am using it from time to time when I don't have what to do. I open it and read what is new in the groups I joined. ________________________ https://www.apkdojo.com/lucky-pa...

Hi everyone 👋 After I wrote an article called "Community leaders deserve better" (https://li.substack.com/p/commun...) a few months ago, I got introduced to the team at Geneva who have been quietly working on this exact challenge for the last 2 years (way before 'community' was hot!). I was floored by how closely aligned our visions were, became an investor, and was honored when they asked for my help announcing their launch. As someone who's seen and used probably 50+ different group chat and community platforms, I can confidently say that Geneva is my favorite. It's beautiful, clean, and a delight to use. In functional terms, the team describes Geneva as an ‘all-in-one communication app’ that brings together everything groups need to stay connected. But in a larger sense, Geneva is a new kind of digital infrastructure — the foundation upon which a new breed of cloud-native groups, clubs, communities, and even cities will be built over the coming decades. My favorite thing about Geneva is how it combines all the different ways groups communicate digitally — real-time chat, forum-style posts, casual group audio and video, and live broadcasts — into one intuitive experience. It then layers on all the things leaders need to keep groups running smoothly: built-in member applications, a centralized events calendar, roles & permissions, safety features, and more. And as if that wasn't enough, they're also starting to build out an entire economic system to underpin the whole thing: a suite of peer-to-peer transactions and Web3 community tools that'll align incentives and allow everyone to create value and wealth accordingly. With the best parts of Slack/Discord, Facebook groups, Clubhouse, Zoom, IG live, Typeform, and Google Calendar already built in and a really thoughtful plan for the road ahead — I'm beyond excited to see where this goes. The team and I will be hanging out on PH all day and we'd love to hear what you think! If you have any thoughts or questions, leave a note in the comments.

@ljin18 Your Substack article was great - and highlights many of the issues I've faced in creating online communities. How many of the 10 feature requests you propose does Geneva check off? And if you don't mind going further, which ones are they/which are missing?
Matt Mazzeo
Congrats on the launch @justinhauser and the entire team at Geneva. Awesome platform for building community and just getting started

Was one of the early Geneva users for a student club. The product takes the best of Slack and Discord, layers on a ton more features, and somehow keeps a clean and simple interface. Excited to see them launch!!

Hi everyone 👋 Thank you Li for hunting us and to everyone who's been on this journey with us. After 2 years of quietly building Geneva, we're excited to come out of our public beta and open Geneva to the world by launching on PH today. Our team will be answering questions here on PH and if you want to check out the app and hang out with us and a few special guests, join our Launch Party home where we'll be hosting a few Geneva 101 sessions, highlighting some incredible groups building on Geneva, and more: (https://links.geneva.com/invite/...) To quickly summarize, Geneva is an all-in-one communication app for groups, clubs, and communities of all shapes & sizes. We know that participating in social groups — from school clubs when we're young to professional networks as we get older — is vital to our happiness and well-being. But we couldn't find a single app that let us stay connected with all the groups and communities in our lives in all the ways we wanted. Most chat apps weren't powerful or flexible enough, Slack was designed for work, Discord was designed for gamers, traditional community platforms were expensive and not right for our social groups, and Facebook felt a bit outdated. To solve this problem, we set out to create a new kind of digital infrastructure for groups: something that blended together the best parts of the chat, audio, and video apps we'd been using, plus all the bells and whistles groups need to thrive. Since we opened our public beta last August, we've seen all kinds of groups find a home on Geneva and use our app in incredible ways. Many existing groups have moved over from Facebook Groups, Slack, and GroupMe and many new ones are being built natively on Geneva. Here are a few examples: - Social clubs like Jet Black, The Conversationalist, Endurance Nation, and Soho Supper Club - Non-profits and movements like EEqual and Earth Uprising International - Creator-led communities like Sea Moss Life, Hannah Bronfman's HB Fit, and Jasmine Tookes & Josephine Skriver's JOJA - Brand-led communities like August, Bubble, Pattern, Ghia, and Geenie - Learning communities like Kode with Klossy, Nik Sharma's DTC / CPG group, and TheAList - All kinds of other groups including sororities, TV series fanatics, book clubs, hiking clubs, coworker crews, friends, families and more. You can read more about how people are using Geneva here: (https://geneva.com/blog/whos-usi...) We're just getting started and have a lot in store over the next 12 months. To learn more about what we've built and where we're going, check out our hello world blog post: (https://geneva.com/blog/hey) Thank you for your consideration. We hope you like it ❤️🌼

Can you clariy, the headline say all-in-one so does this aggregate messaging from Facebook, Slack, SMS, GroupMe, etc. or are you just saying that it's all the different forms of communication in one app?
Austin Yu
@seobrien_mediatech Hey Paul, the latter – that we're bringing together all these different forms of communication all into one app.
drew olanoff
OK, I dig this quite a bit. I'm finding that Discord might be a bit too much like Slack and that something more similar to Twitter/FB/Reddit might be the way to go.
Eva Steinman
@drew Thank you for your support!🌼
Sam Liebeskind
thanks @drew! Yea, we've found that the ability to mix and match those different styles of convo for different moments / topics / sub-groups is really powerful! This way you get both the spontaneity/connection benefits of more casual daily banter with the organization/management benefits of those slightly more formal 'post' style interactions. Once you've given it a spin with a group, let us know how how it goes 🙌
drew olanoff
@samliebeskind would love to chat more and share a few ideas on how we'd love to use it. crunchdrew at gmail

Been on Geneva since early last summer and have absolutely loved it since. Amazing communities growing on there, and the team does not disappoint with their feature roll-out. this is the future of community platforms!

Dan Murray-Serter
Hey guys - massive congrats on a remarkable looking product! I am literally just reviewing my community options as we speak over the last week and was weighing up circle or mighty but now you guys have thrown a very deliberate spanner in there! I'd love to know what the main points of differentiation are if you are happy to share - why choose you over them (intended in the nicest non confrontational tone possible!) x
Austin Yu
@murraymuzz Hey Daniel, thank you! Glad we caught you in the nick of time and appreciate the question. The biggest difference is that Circle and Mighty focus on one type of interaction: asynchronous, forum-style posts akin to a Facebook Groups. On Geneva, you can use that same style of asynchronous post rooms, PLUS real-time chat rooms, group audio and video rooms, and broadcast rooms (which are a bit like private Instagram live or Clubhouse with video).
Sam Liebeskind
@murraymuzz building on @rightbackatyu's point - we've found that the ability to mix and match these different communication types creates a more dynamic space. And of course, unlike those platforms, Geneva is totally free to use! You can read our introductory blog post for more details (https://geneva.com/blog/hey) and if you'd like, feel free to reach out to Kim, our Head of Groups & Communities (kim@geneva.com) to learn more and/or to see all of the above in action!
Dan Murray-Serter
@rightbackatyu great answers thank you - makes lots of sense. Next question - are there paid/unpaid versions of joining the community? Couldnt really see that option in any obvious way... And whilst I have you is there like a public landing page experience you could send people to so to speak.... Oh and finally - does this sit separately to websites/brands or can it be integrated with shopify/squarespace etc as an extension of the brand experience? Thanks! PS: Totally appreciate you cant make it all things to all use cases so sorry for some of the nuanced questions here but in case you've not guessed - brand owner here! I did read your whole post of who's using it etc but all the links link to their websites, not their community spaces so its kind of hard to see how those are run....
Austin Yu
@murraymuzz Hey Daniel, a couple responses: - Yup, built-in entry fees are coming this summer so leaders will have the option to do a paid model. - Yes: today, when you share an invite link to your Geneva home and someone clicks it, they'll see a mini-landing page that shows your home's name, details, and list of rooms inside. Toward the end of the year we're planning to make public-facing home landing pages even more robust and pair them with custom (vanity) domains. - For now, Geneva groups sit separately from third-party payments and vendors, but we're planning to launch a membership API (likely through Zapier) in Q3 or Q4. We completely understand (and hear from the groups on Geneva today!) that brands really value customizability and a space that looks and feels on-brand, and are working hard to make that happen :)

I live in Geneva (true story) and have been using Geneva since last summer Great product ! Kudos to @justinhauser and team !
Sam Liebeskind
Thanks for all your support @rphgrc! You were one of the true Geneva OGs!

Congratulations @justinhauser and team on this launch. I'm looking to launch HAX (personal finance community for GenZ) and been debating whether to use Discord or Slack. This sounds amazing, will def take a look. Do you have a feature that can create micro-squads for accountability similar to the Donut Slack app? Thanks!
Austin Yu
@justinhauser @karsenthil Thanks so much! We'd love to host you & your HAX community. We don't have a feature that is exactly like Donut but we've seen groups do 'breakout cohorts' on Geneva in a number of ways. If you're interested, our Community team would be more than happy to walk you through this and show you some GenZ-focused communities on Geneva today!
Karthik Senthil
@justinhauser @rightbackatyu Hey Austin - yeah I'd love to chat, plus learn more about how you intend to charge via the 5% of transactions. How can I set-up time?
Austin Yu
@justinhauser @karsenthil Feel free to set up time directly with Kim, our Head of Groups & Communities, via email (kim@geneva.com)! Just watched your podcast trailer on Twitter, sounds exciting :)
Karthik Senthil
@justinhauser @geneva @rightbackatyu Awesome, email coming your way Kim! And thanks for the kind word on the podcast - we're now live FYI (you can find it on Spotify): https://anchor.fm/securethebagshow

I've been using Geneva for the past months to run a group for Pattern. We're over 400 members and it's been awesome. It's like a friendly discord, or a less work-oriented slack. the team has been awesome on updates, feedback, and input as well. 🌸

Atmos Black
This really looks great. I'm in marketing of an educational institute and we are currently looking to build our own community for our students. Our primary goal is to get people off Facebook and into a more private environment. There are 2 important features we need: privacy for our users and a way to manage groups where we decide what will be public and what not. Are these features planned? How do you earn money? I hope it's not a classical ad and meta-data selling business like FB etc.
Eva Steinman
@atmos_black Thank you for your support! We can guarantee that we 1) provide our users with privacy and will never rent/sell your data, 2) give admins the ability to manage group settings and 3) importantly, will not show you any ads! If and when you earn money on Geneva, we’ll share in the earnings with you (we keep 5%). We’re starting by allowing group leaders to charge members for access to a home. Over time, we’ll introduce more and more ways for everyone to be both a producer and a consumer on Geneva. Our long-term goal is to build an entire Geneva economy that benefits all users — not just the top 1% of super-creators. More on this to come, so stay tuned🙂

Congrats to @justinhauser and the entire team on the public launch! I’ve been using for a few months and love the versatility of the product! 🚀
