Love the progress!!!!!!! What features do you have in the pipeline? Would love to see creative icebreakers structured into a game that you can play while in a chat :)

@ali_wetrill great idea!! we have a lot of crazy ideas in the running. Everything from hang man to "rock paper scissors extreme": https://guideinc.org/2015/09/28/...

@ali_wetrill @helenamerk I think it’s time to make the official “rock paper scissors” ranking of all emoji :)

Thank you @katmanalac 💙!! Hi PH community! I’m Helena 👋, one of the Glimpse founders. We dropped out of Duke CS to build a startup, and it’s come a long way in the last few months. We first left on a mission to build authenticity into our lives through genuine connections: this meant engaging people 1:1 offline for heart-to-hearts. This little covid thing changed all of our plans! Mid-March, we decided to shift our efforts to a fundamental piece of the “authentic connection” user journey: initiation. An amazing start to a relationship can change the course of the (friend)ship significantly. We realized a recipe for a successful first impression included a mix of adrenaline rush and a sense of instant connection. The “missed connection” feeling was also critical in making someone yearn to reach out and continue a conversation. We introduced time-boxed video chat, always 1:1, and never with a complete stranger. At first it was a social consumer product, and then we realized the massive demand as covid was bringing tightly knit communities online -- everyone from business schools to book clubs was now scrambling to build a sense of intimacy online. We found most video platforms to be **tools** to facilitate a conversation. We choose to focus on creating an experience that brings delight, rather than simply enabling you to talk through your screen. Today, we are beyond excited to announce a completely revamped Glimpse 2.0. The huge demand from business schools, conferences, teams, blew us away - enough to launch Web, build special features, and add Admin customization. The screenshots above are just a sneak peak of all we have in store - to get the full spiel join me in the Product Hunt room on Glimpse!! Join me here: https://app.joinglimpse.com/prod...! Excited to chat about community with you:) I want to hear all about your journey in building an online community: what you’ve tried, what’s been frustrating, and what’s been amazing. What feelings are you no longer getting in group settings? Have you found yourself forming new habits with respect to maintaining friendships and meeting new people? Why does community matter to you? Helena, Co-founder

Thanks Kat 🎉 Hey PH Community! I’m Brian, one of the co-founders of Glimpse! My team has been hard at work over the last few months, and we’re really excited to bring you an entirely reimagined socializing experience on video. After spending half a year on video calls (yeah, crazy isn’t it?), we’ve realized that existing products fall short of the valuable interactions we share in real life. Here are just a couple of the issues: - Only one person can speak at a time - No natural side conversations - Inadequate for building meaningful relationships As remote life continues for the foreseeable future, we realized that we needed a solution enabling everything from remote socializing to remote networking to even remote rush! Our latest version of Glimpse Web is designed to do just that. After speaking with community managers, teams, and other Glimpsers, we’ve redesigned our product to improve upon existing video platforms. I’m really excited about some of the features, including: - Typed Rooms: ensure everyone in your community meets the right people (eg. interns meet fulltimers, bigs meet littles, rushees meet members) - Customizable Features: choose the specific features that will help your community connect - Authless Login: allow your members to join without needing to create an account We would love for you to try out Glimpse with your team, your community, or even your family! If you would like to get a “glimpse” of the experience first, join me in our Product Hunt room: app.joinglimpse.com/producthunt Can’t wait to hear your feedback! Brian, Co-Founder

Hi the video shows that it can be longer than 2 mins but I am only seeing 2 mins. Am I missing something? Thanks
Helena Merk
@coachkristinv hmm. Make sure you are on web! When you create a room, you can select the time limit for your members.
Melissa Du
Wow, this is awesome! Does Glimpse help facilitate the conversation in any way (via icebreaker questions or perhaps fun games to play together)? Can't wait to use this with my team!
Helena Merk
@coffeestacker Yes! we support icebreakers, minigames, and recently added a photobooth feature:)

Nice idea 😃 I downloaded the app now and here's some feedback. I didn't understand the tagline on here but I understood more after reading the app description. I wonder, are you more focused on "meet friends in groups of friends" or "a fun way to stay in touch with your social groups"?
Helena Merk
@willddddd gotcha! I think we still have to update our app descriptions (focus currently has been on web). We're focused on connecting large social groups!

Everytime I try to join WELCOME group, it shows me something went wrong, please try again. Not able to upload image here.

Wooow, congrats for the launch,, amazing idea and great product. How do you guys compare with tandem.chat? I'd love to give the product a try!
YuRa Lee
This product is really cool. It can get so difficult to stay connected, especially in this time of quarantine and social isolation. What sort of use cases do you guys see for this product after quarantine is over?
Brian Li
@yura_lee Glimpse will be great for remote teams to stay connected, as well as for remote communities to help their members engage!
Ivan Lee
We’ve been hosting happy hours on Zoom, and there comes a certain time of night were someone gets drunk and takes the floor for a monologue. The time boxed and 1:1 nature of Glimpse means everyone gets to talk. Super hyped to try it.
Scotty Shaw
Glimpse is amazing! As an extreme extrovert, I've struggled to get enough human interaction, especially through incidental contact, during this whole quarantine, but Glimpse makes it so easy to meet people and have fun. More importantly, having served as the European Commission's CTO for the EUvsVirus Hackathon (https://euvsvirus.org), I've had several conversations with the Glimpse Team, and they are always attentive and ready to help out at a moment's notice, even expanding their services to account for European Union regulations and needs. Recently, Helena herself got on a call to tell me about new features and games that will assist with my future operations. With my upcoming global online hackathon (https://rallyto.us) focusing on helping students secure internships and jobs for 2021, we'll be sure to bring in Glimpse to help our participants expand their network around the world and build camaraderie across time zones!
Helena Merk
@thefreshdukescottyshaw we love supporting hackathons, especially one's you run Scotty as they always fight for good causes!
Sanha Lim
Incredible product! Has livened up meetings so much and helped make them feel a lot more personal. Highly recommend giving it a shot to liven up any gathering!
Vinit Parekh
Amazing application. I remember the first time downloading it, I was so interested in the idea of short calls. Its customizability makes the product even more amazing and fun to use :) love the new updates. Keep it up team!
Ali Ahmed
Also what tech do you use for realtime video connection?
Brian Li
@ali_wetrill We are currently using Twilio for video
Matt Jessen-Howard
Great product, Helena! Recently used this for a happy hour/get to know you event and thought it worked great. Tools like Glimpse that facilitate an online community in COVID times are so important!
liz
I love Glimpse! Icebreaker games have been really fun on this app and it's so great to be able to call my friends without completely distracting them for 30 minutes!
Thomas Williford
I feel like I must cost Glimpse a fortune in server fees with how much I use it to talk to both individual friends and organizations. Seriously impressed
Helena Merk
@thomas_williford helping facilitate conversations is priceless
Adolfo Portilla
Love the product! this is a great way of connecting with co-workers during the pandemic, specially when everybody is remote. One cool feature would be to be able to extend the time a video call lasts once you are in the call, sometimes we want to say last minute things but the video chat ends!
Alex Bone
We are currently launching Glimpse to our student population studying at UCLan University, UK. We think the 2 minute, random chats with fellow students will help replicate online what happens during our ‘Freshers Week’; when students are meeting socially and building friendships across our face-face activities. Many of which have needed to be cancelled or moved online due to COVID-19. We see this as the natural progression from Facebook groups, where students can have a real-time conversations with peers in a safe and friendly environment.
Helena Merk
@alex_north we are so excited to be working with UCLan!! It's been amazing to see how open you are to being creative, and how much effort you are putting in to ensure students have an amazing semester despite COVID.
Sisipho Zinja
Enjoy the sleek and straight to the point design, the easy navigation to important features on the app and it also provides a quick and engaging way to connect with friends!
Helena Merk
@sisiphozinja thank you!!
