We’re hopeful that by shedding light on products with excess demand and insufficient supply, businesses can more easily focus on the things that matter most and be better stewards to the world in this time of crisis.
Timely and fascinating. Provides so much insight into how people are occupying themselves right now. This is how we prepare for the apocalypse--by learning new ukulele songs and dusting off our bread making skills. While obviously buying bulk ammo.
I do think what is needed is some measure of the importance of the change--i.e. a metric representing the baseline volume. Statistics differentiates between *significance* (enough relative change that it is unlikely to be due to randomness) and *importance* (is this absolute change material to the user?). Obviously importance here is highly subjective. Still--how to compare a +27% spike in Desk activity to a +485% spike in Bidet? Were bidets a popular topic before social distancing?
Hi @noahframschwartz! I love this. I just launched Homefront Supply to connect suppliers and individuals with excess capacity to front-line workers in need of personal protective equipment, cleaning supplies, and other services. Would appreciate an upvote and would love to collaborate! - Sam
"Glimpse analyzes hundreds of millions of consumer behavior signals from across the web to surface topics with rapidly growing or declining popularity."
can you please be more specific here? how can I compare data from different widgets on the same axis, say makeup vs backpack (kind of relative comparison similar to google trends)?
Love Glimpse and have been a long time supporter of Noah and team. Not only is Glimpse applicable and useful in a moment of crisis like this, I always discover and learn new products and phenomena from their regular emails. If you're not a subscriber, you're missing out!
Hey everyone,
Beyond the health implications, this pandemic is clearly causing an economic crisis. We’re hopeful that by shedding light on products and services with excess demand and insufficient supply, businesses can more easily focus on the things that matter most and be better stewards to the world in this time of crisis.
We’ve raced to put this data together and are eager for feedback on how we can adapt this tool to be most useful!
Thank you Noah for your team's great effort.
I love the report but I believe it overlooks the fact that we are social beings that don't only survive on consuming material products. If there is anything we can learn from the current crisis it is the fact that we have been conducting our version of social distancing for a long time without being aware of it - distanced people, overly focused on economic efficiency and consuming material products.
Based on personal observation and reports, people are resorting to their social circles to combat fear, loneliness, and uncertainty. This increase in social activity, if conclusive, - you might even say it is an increase in both degree and type - tells us that we probably need to make, and improve, social products, products that connect us to our physical communities (neighbors for example), help us find clear purpose in life, serve our communities, and build better habits.
Absolutely love the stats and trends delivered by the Glimpse team. The analytical tools they've built able to picks up on the most human trends on time (I am a subscriber of several "rising trends" startups and the content Glimpse is delivering is the best).
I am really puzzled on providing feedback on "how we can adapt this tool to be most useful" as It's not clear what's the final goal hear - is it to build awareness about Glimpse or pure altruistic goal to provide the data to those businesses on what's on-demand free of charge to serve the community? Either way it's has to be some sort of awareness / PR campaign - Just put a few pitches together picking up on some valuable trends and share it with major media outlets. I am sure with the tech and content team you have in place it will be a piece of cake to sell it. (Cliff Lerner in his book Explosive Growth describe the exact strategy on how you can do it).
Other than that, honestly, the product/products you are delivering are amazing and as long as there will be more traction with media I am sure you'll get all the awareness you need.
