That looks cool, I can't imagine how difficult it was to engineer. I notice you ship to both North America and Europe, do you offer appropriate power cables for each region? What sort of warranty do you offer?
@avizuber The engineering has been a blast! Yes, we offer different power cables for both and can handle 110 & 220V. There's a one year warranty with more details here: https://grobo.io/pages/warrantie...
Hey Product Hunt! We're so excited to share Grobo with you. Thanks @joshdance for hunting us!
Grobo is a fully-automated, app-controlled indoor gardening system that helps anyone easily grow fresh food and medicine at home, all year long. We know there have been other home gardening systems that have popped up on PH, but we're doing things a little differently at Grobo.
We wanted to make the most beautiful, intelligent, and easy to use system. The system should fully care for your plant, while being a showcase for your growing prowess at the same time (hence the opaque-to-transparent glass front).
Grobo uses pre-made plant growing "recipes" and an array of sensors to insure that your plants are always growing with the optimal temperature, humidity, light, water, and nutrients. We've also designed our own LED light system that utilizes different light colours to mimic the sun and help your plants grow better.
We launched on our website last week and are continuing to accept pre-orders until the end of the month. We’ve received a lot of great feedback already, and are excited to hear what the PH community thinks!
Thanks for all the support!
Hey everyone - I'm one of the co-founders of Grobo and we are super excited to be featured on ProductHunt today!
If you want to learn more or have any questions, please let us know, we're happy to help!
@hotcodepush Thanks! Strawberries are in hot demand, but medicinal cannabis is the big one with patients from all over the world excited about saving time and money while growing the highest quality medicine!
@thejournalizer We're moving quickly through dev and testing, but unfortunately each plant growth cycle takes 2-3 months so we're trying to squeeze a few more cycles in before we ship the units to make sure all of our growing recipes are up to par!
it's pretty expensive for an indoor gardening system that is 14"x14". On the plus side, there is a good amount of vertical space so I can see something like strawberries doing very well. Tomatoes, 1 plant max (I know there are some varieties that are much more compact but are not favored for their fruit) and it would be tough to succession plant at the same time. The LED light system and integrated watering is nice, but in all fairness, that's table stakes for indoor gardening systems these days, and often at 1/5th of the price. I am interested in learning more about the Recipes.
@jeff_nolan Great points Jeff! The LEDs, environmental control and nutrient dosing are some of the unique features that make this all work. Our LEDs are designed in-house from the ground up which allows us to trigger different chemical reactions in the plants to make them grow shorter and more dense. On the nutrient side, for example, we measure the nutrients in the water both before and after watering which tells us what the plant is consuming.
The recipes are what make all this possible. We have pre-programmed which wavelengths of light and what optimal nutrient levels are required throughout the grow cycle this helps the plants grow faster than normal. Our community members can also create and share recipes for any plants that are not already in the app!
Hi All, Chris from Grobo here (and the other cofounder). I'm head of the technical team at Grobo so if you have any questions with regards to the mechanics, electronics, or plant related aspects of the unit I can help you out :)
Price is a tad high, but a very neat product. This would do well in Canada. There are many new laws going into effect very soon. I am just wondering has this went through crowdfunding campaigns, or is just pre-selling directly on the website?
Given the cost of the system up-front, plus presumably ongoing costs for the nutrients, most plants aren't going to be worth it unless you just like the idea of growing at home without all the work of gardening. Cannabis, of course, is a special case -- and possibly the only case that really justifies a system like this?
