Craft GitHub-based assessments on Hatchways within minutes. Simulate real-world tasks (e.g. creating or reviewing a pull request) instead of LeetCode problems. Choose or modify templates, add automation, or use our ChatGPT-powered tasks.
Hey everyone 👋🏻, this is Jaclyn, I am the co-founder and CEO of Hatchways.
I'm incredibly proud of the work my team has done over the last few years (especially through hyper-turbulent tech hiring times!) Today, I’m excited to share a brand new version of Hatchways: Hatchways 2.0.
We started our journey years back when were part of Y Combinator. Our concept then was internships as a replacement for interviews. We’ve always been passionate about helping people from all walks of life land a job based on their skills, regardless of school, connections, or interviewing abilities.
Over time, we realized the challenge in solving this problem lies in the fact that companies lack incentives to improve their processes unless it saves them money or time. Hatchways 2.0 addresses this by streamlining the interview process for companies, thus saving them time while helping them identify and hire top talent. Today’s launch brings together all of our years of learnings into one beautifully designed self-serve platform.
With Hatchways 2.0, companies can:
✨ Access our platform for free for up to 10 invites per month!
🧰 Select and modify from existing, real-world GitHub tasks or customize your own to fit specific requirements
🦄 Seamlessly add automation using our unique .hatchways.gitignore files and GitHub Actions software
🤖 Try our ChatGPT-enhanced assessment, simulating a pair programming interview through interactive coding tasks
📈 Send, track, and receive assessments. Monitor candidates' progress on a Kanban board
🔗 Connect with your Greenhouse, Lever, or Ashby ATS system
💰💰 Get a bespoke assessment made for your specific use case. Up until September 1st, Product Hunt members can receive 50% off a bespoke assessment by mentioning PH launch to Hatchways.
What else would you like to see? How can we continue to make the interview process more enjoyable and fair for candidates? 🌎
Finally a hiring product that optimizes its experience for what actually makes an effective engineer instead of someone who has grinded on hacker rank like an engineering job was a college exam.
@joshellinger appreciate the support! Here's to hoping we can make this the standard one day!! 🤞 If you have any thoughts on how we can continue to improve the experience for engineers, please let us know!
Congrats on the launch team! We've used Hatchways successfully for hires on our team - the mix of real exercises with actionable feedback resonated deeply with our candidates, and ultimately fit exactly into our hiring process. Keep up the amazing work!
Congrats Jaclyn and Shums! It’s so tricky to balance being efficient with your hiring time and energy vs. getting signal and creating a great candidate experience—This seems to square that circle!
Love this guys! Our team is completely remote and async and have tried a bunch of different products to make interviewing high-signal, but also not take a lot of time.
What are some best practices for ow Hatchways plugs into an existing company's in-person interview process?
@victor_zhang1 Thanks Victor!
Great question -- we've seen a ton of success in companies building off of the project in an "in-person interview". Either by having a thoughtful discussion on the applicant's decision-making process, what they would do if they had more time, edge cases they hadn't considered etc., and possibly spending 30-60 minutes adding a new feature of refactoring something together on a call (similar to a pair programming exercise).
We've seen this process be the best of both worlds: high signal and an optimal way to spend interviewing time, while providing a less anxious environment for the applicant because they are building off of something they are already familiar with (rather than a programming challenge they may/may not have seen before)!
On top of making your interviews more objective and relevant, the candidate experience with Hatchawys is also super seamless & slick which is a great bonus. Awesome launch!
@david_sipos Thanks David! It's definitely important to us that we keep both the candidate experience and the employer experience in mind when continuing to improve the platform! If you have any real-life tasks that you'd like to see in our pre-built catalogue, let me know!
@leo_zhou Great question and thanks for the support Leo! We have integrations with ATS systems like Greenhouse, Lever + Ashby. BambooHR is on our radar though and feel free to reach out to our team if you need that integration, we can prioritize it faster!
We used Hatchways for our recruiting process recently. Candidates had good feedback and said they liked the take-away challenge portion! Keep up the great work Jaclyn and Shums!
If I can throw a nerf football at you and you don’t email HR and laugh it off because we’re normal humans…
I’ll most likely hire you. Upvoted!!
Hiring ain’t easy
@nilans Really appreciate the support Nilan. As you test out and get to know the product, definitely let us know how we can continue to move in the right direction!!
Aight, imma give this one my upvote. the product is ambitious per se and we have to make some changes especially in making it AI proof, but the soon to be engineers of the era have been through online classes. This is not to say that online classes do suck or smth like that, this is mere verification that they really do have what it takes to be an engineer since engineers build shelters, one of human's necessities
@theiblb This is absolutely one of our drivers in making this product! We've always been excited about the world where self-studiers and self-taught programmers could land opportunities just as effectively as traditionally educated folks. Thanks for your support!
