Hey PH! I’m Colton, one of the founders at Hedgehog (https://hedgehog.app/). We make it easy to trade on any exchange, track all your crypto in one place, and learn about every coin. We're hoping to make crypto easy for both the newbie enthusiast and the professional trader. We've been working on this product in relative stealth for almost three years, and Taylor, Jason, and I have learned a lot about building such a massive product with a lean team in a fast moving space. We had the benefit of some experience from being early team members at Acorns, but this challenge was a very different kind of beast to tackle. We originally got started in crypto back when we were running a small startup consultancy and three of our clients all broke their contracts in the same month: one went bankrupt, one got sued by their ex-partner, and one was out of state--and decided that the distance meant he didn't have to pay us. That's when we learned about Ethereum smart contracts and got excited about the idea of automated escrow. Volatility aside, if the technology had been widespread it would have saved us $30k and a lot of grief. And our confidence and excitement about cryptocurrency has only increased since then. But frankly, getting into crypto is a pain. Finance is complicated enough when you're dealing with simple equities, but add in secret keys, hardware wallets, and exchange hacks and you quickly find yourself in chaos. Despite this, 55% of cryptocurrency owners still report that crypto was their very first investment, ever. Even as a pro, managing a portfolio of currencies is torturous. Our average user has at least 3 exchange accounts and manages more than 10 different wallets. And the most common tool they all use to track it is Excel. If you've ever thought about managing your investments in a spreadsheet--don't. It can be a full-time job with even a modest portfolio, especially once you start thinking about trading across multiple exchanges, recording your cost bases, and trying to account for tax effects after every single transaction. That's exactly why we built Hedgehog. To save crypto hodlers time, and to help them optimize their portfolios for maximum effect. One unique thing about cryptocurrencies is that all the usage data is completely public! The active wallets, transaction numbers, miner fees, and more all get published with each block, or each round of consensus. Imagine being able to index into your favorite startups based on their monthly recurring revenue or their daily active users. That's what we're setting out to provide. We're already helping individuals and investment firms manage $2.8 million in cryptocurrency, and we've already processed $45k in trades since opening up trading to the public around Christmas. So we're pretty confident that we've worked out a lot of the basic kinks. That being said, we'd love for any of you to help us put the site through its paces and let us know if you find something that breaks. If you don't feel confident in crypto yet, we're also here to help you. Our Learn content and Discover page are there to help get you up to speed, and we also include loads of research on hundreds of tokens and their teams, with unique wikis for all 1800+ actively traded tokens. In terms of what's next, we're looking to get licensed with the SEC and FINRA so we can offer more sophisticated products that take a lot of the work off the client. Right now you have to plug in all your own exchange credentials and assemble your own portfolio, but once we get registered we'll be able to take care of those steps for you. In the long run, we hope to be a place where you can discover, track, trade, and even use your cryptocurrency. There are so many cool projects out there from distributed render farms like Golem, to distributed storage like Sia and Storj, to prediction markets like Augur and Gnosis, the obvious DeFi projects like Compound and Yearn, and even more that haven't yet been imagined. Somebody has to help make these projects more usable for the average person, and we want to be that force. I'm incredibly proud of the team, and I can't wait to polish this product into the dream I know it can be. Please let us know your thoughts, we're dying to ship the features that the community wants. Happy to answer any questions and take feedback here, we'll be monitoring closely. -Colton and the Hedgehog Team
