Heroes helps recent grads find their first job or internship using a 60 sec video pitch with an app:

1 - Candidates discover companies and their offices with a 60' video pitch of the team.

2 - Like a first interview, the student can apply to the job answering pre-recorded questions asked by the team to show their personality!

Mentored Tristan and Cyriac during their acceleration program in SF. They are putting the work in to offer a new talent recruitment experience. The app is very slick and it does bring a new paradigm: recruiting companies need to show who they are too! Great job guys!

DISCLAIMER: I am an investor in Heroes.

Great team, very driven and passionate. I like the idea of turning the recruiting process into a two-sided video story. Pitch back!

Pros:

Make recruitment great again

Cons:

Founders haircut

Have known @tristanpetitw, @cyriac_l and Adrien de Wulf for some time now. Have been impressed by their product execution and initial traction in France. Excited to see them go after the massive student recruitment opportunity in the bay area. Congrats guys!

How do you avoid creating a company full of extroverts? I personally see the appeal but I think this would be off-putting for people that are more on the shy side or introvert. Not everyone is comfortable jumping in front of a camera and some people express themselves much better through writing.
Tristan J Petit
@yannschaub @pbmarcano You guys are totally right to raise this question - that's why it is super important to have a variety of people representing the company on the camera and asking the questions to the candidate. This way it will be appealing to anyone. - At the same time, compared to other video recruitment tools where candidates are being asked to answer live questions, with Heroes, they can record and redo the video as many times as they want, before they feel confident enough to go to the next step. - I would add that the recruiter isn’t a film director looking for the next Johnny Depp… They are mainly looking for great content. Candidates will have a physical interview at some point, video just makes the process faster and smoother for everyone in most cases. - Finally, for sales or customer service positions, companies sometimes need to filter out on the degree of confidence/extraversion. I hope that it clarifies some doubts you might have and happy to continue the discussion.

There is finally a new (and also a great) app that has been launched with its iOS and Android versions at the same time. Congratulations and thanks!
Tristan J Petit
@aparkhills Hi Andy, you support and kind words are much appreciated, our team worked hard for it :)
Sam Sles
Neat idea! Is there any worry about making it easier to discriminate against candidates?
Tristan J Petit
@sam_sles Hi Sam. I just replied to @matt_dailey above "From Day 1 we built Heroes with one objective: to give voice to talents. The applicants that apply with Heroes manage to stand-out thanks to their personality in their video pitch, which is almost impossible to do an a resume/cover letter. We want to fight against any barriers or bias they might encounter when sending a cover letter/resume with just a name written on a piece of paper... even if the name is not written as you mentioned, at some point the face to face interview will happen and an employer willing to discriminate still has the power to do so. On the other side, we are very optimistic as we have seen more and more companies wishing to diversify their teams, and Heroes is actually helping them is this way = win-win for talents and recruiters"
Sam Sles
@matt_dailey @tristanpetitw thanks for the thoughtful response. I still think it's easier to gloss over a candidates qualifications in a video vs. a resume, but you're right that an employer with biases could act on them later in the interview process. Anyway, good luck!
Tristan J Petit
@sam_sles Just wanted to clarify: most of the times, candidates send us a resume together with the video, this way, employers have the possibility to review the resume before watching the video :)

I'm interested in how this effects hiring bias. A common approach to remove bias from the interview process is removing identifying details from the application (eg removing name from a code sample to help reduce gender bias). This seems to go the opposite direction by including more personal information. How do you think about Heroes Jobs role in reducing bias in the hiring process?
Tristan J Petit
@matt_dailey Hi Matt, thank you for raising this very important question again. As I replied above to a similar question, we take this question very seriously. From Day 1 we built Heroes with one objective: to give voice to talents. On the other side, we are very optimistic as we have seen more and more companies wishing to diversify their teams, and Heroes is actually helping them is this way = win-win for talents and recruiters

Nik Sobolev
amazing UI and quick and easy onboarding experience - great job makers! Are you planning to scale and cover larger employers? and if yes, how? or are you focusing on startups only? Even though it makes it easy for small orgs, scaling for larger market won't be as easy.
Tristan J Petit
@niksobolev Thank you for raising this crucial question, a lot of investors have asked us previously about it and I am always happy to answer it. We are 200% convinced that video is the future of recruitment, and its not just for startups. Our go to market with startups was justified as easier and faster to make a name and attract candidates. These cool startups will help us attract strong and motivated candidates from the universities we are targeting, then, larger corporations will want to access this pool of candidates too. We have actually been contacted by a lot of larger corporations already which we are planning to onboard very soon. Happy to answer any other question you might have!!

I love the idea soooo much :) Good luck!
Louis-Clément Schiltz
Amazing app ! Much more convenient way to hire candidates than anything else I have seen on the market ! If you are a start up you should use it to find the next key asset for your team !

Disclaimer: I was their growth marketing advisor in the context of The Refiners' acceleration program in SF.

Pros:

An opportunity for recruiting companies to tell a compelling job story. Relevant format for millennials and GenZ + a supportive community

Cons:

Brand identity vs. UI design arbitrage for now :)
