@inboundbear Hi Philipp, we're trying out a new business model with HeyTaco! 2 where there's only a free trial. The Freemium model was good at bringing a lot of people in, but we weren't happy with how it was incentivizing product development and other longer term implications. With our old pricing model people were paying us to create rewards, which creates an incentive for us to get our customers to spend as much money on rewards as possible.
So HeyTaco! was incentivized to reward people instead of bringing them together. This is common with many players in our space and why you see a big emphasis on things like gift cards or monetary rewards with our competitors. You also see a growing trend in people charging for features like performance evaluation. Something HeyTaco! isn't meant to do and can conflict with bringing teams together.
Our hope is the new business model encourages us to focus on product areas that are most important to bringing teams together on a daily basis. Like improving taco giving mechanics, ways to show bigger gestures of appreciation, celebrating, etc...
Feel free to share any thoughts you have, this is our first go at free-trial only and are looking for any advice we can get.
@inboundbear We're following a model similar to basecamp. Where any existing versions are supported. So anyone using HeyTaco! 1 can try out HeyTaco! 2 and will go back to HeyTaco! 1 if they don't upgrade. We'll be doing an announcement to all HeyTaco! 1 free teams soon.
@inboundbear No problem and thanks so much for sharing, super helpful. Our plan is to see how the free-trial model goes over the next 30 days before announcing any permanent sounding changes. Want to test and learn before making a bigger pricing announcement. Depending on the results we'll iterate on the current plan or pivot to a new one. We'll do a blog post about the whole experience and what we learned. You'll likely be included as an example ;).
Amazing guys! Hey Taco definitely fits on Welearn's culture core values. We'll give a try and I'm sure that it gonna be very fun.
Congrats and keep rocking!
@rodrigoprior thanks Rodrigo! Please let us know if you have any questions as you get started. Happy to help! You can reach us anytime at hola@heytaco.chat.
Hi there Hunters,
Itโs been a little over a year since we launched HeyTaco! on Product Hunt. We learned a lot, ate a few too many tacos, gained a few pounds, and are excited to announce HeyTaco! 2.
HeyTaco! 2 is a faster, sleeker, and more delicious taco experience. Our latest version is all about bringing your team closer together, and to do so weโve added a few new things and improved upon what people already loved about HeyTaco!
I'd list out all the details here, but our website does a lot better job explaining than I can. Please give HeyTaco! 2 a look, we even have a special offer waiting for all of you Product Hunters at the site.
Have a great day,
Doug
@dosberg yes, please. Our team is considering to try something for peer-to-peer appreciation and see if it sticks. HeyTaco! was my first choice. ๐ฎ๐ฎ๐ฎ
We love using HeyTaco! at Sendible. ๐
With our team becoming more & more remote (now 1/3 of them are scattered all around the world), HeyTaco! helps us better celebrate small wins and moments when team members go above and beyond.
I personally love that it's a taco (because it can be meaty, cheesy, veggie or vegan) & the rewards are so fun!
Thanks for making this lovely addition for Slack ๐
Love what you guys are doing! Fun, creative way to build relationships on Slack.
Something to consider: the startup I'm working for is located in Taiwan where tacos are not praised. We'd be open to trying a product like this, but when 80% of the office has never eaten a taco, let alone seen one, it's a hard sell.
If you want to make an impact in Asian/South East Asian countries then perhaps a company could have the ability of customizing the emoji outside of a taco.
@timbjones Hi Tim! thanks for the great advice ๐ฎ๐ฎ๐ฎ! We have a few teams from Asia using HeyTaco!. The Philippines is one of our more popular countries. It's a tricky pickle using other emojis since that's where we think most of our branding comes from and tacos are woven into our whole experience from the text copy to achievements. I almost feel like it'd be better to create a different brand for certain markets.
