A few weeks ago we polled our community on how we can help with the current unemployment situation. We had a zoom call with over 15 members, many who were laid off. We discussed different ideas but two things became apparent. How bad is unemployment? How can I apply for unemployment? So we created this map and guide to help everyone understand. We source the data weekly from the BLS. It's showing non-seasonally adjusted numbers. Then we use location data and D3.js to display it on the map. We were really inspired by all the coronavirus tracking tools so we wanted something just as easy. Additionally for every single US state, our team researched, gathered and organized data on 1. How to apply 2. What documents you need to apply 3. Any coronavirus specific updates. 4. Any times like dealing with call lines and the state websites. As you know many of the unemployment systems are old and not as friendly to use. We want our Unemployment Guide to help those navigating those systems when it's a particularly difficult time. Lastly, we wanted to share the human side of unemployment. Behind those very large big numbers are real people who have been laid off. We added an Add Your Resume feature so in real time you can show up on the employment map. People can learn about you and connect with you if they want to hire you. While these are incredibly difficult times, what we love is our community coming together to support each other. Hi Everyone, I'm very proud and humbled of how the team and HireClub Community have come and worked together in bringing this Guide & Map into life. We are consistently seeing conversations in our Community on how confusing and disintegrated the process to file unemployment is, when being laid off or furloughed is already a painful experience.  When we did the research, we found that some states do better jobs than others in terms of user experience, site design, and clarity on the process. Hi everyone. First of all, thanks so much for your support. When I first learned a couple of weeks ago that @kidbombay was starting work on this project, I immediately jumped on it to help with the developing new reality of people being unemployed as a result of Covid. I have unfortunately had to let people go as a company founder. I thought that working on this would be a show of empathy toward those on the other side of the table. I’ve had to guide former team members first hand on how to apply for unemployment. I wanted to really help anyone in that position. I also wanted to help Ketan and his team build a striking visualization of the problem at the state and country level, to show the wide-reaching impact as effectively as possible. Ketan and I have worked together in the past, and I knew that we would do our best again. Tremendous thanks to the rest of the team that worked tirelessly on this, namely @raymond_shen for the beautiful design, to @lisamaria for the data sourcing, guidance, and testing, and to everyone else who was involved. Great idea! Can we get links to replacement jobs and maybe remote work? Is there a way to show open positions or available remote work along side so we can compare? Also a breakdown by industry would be insightful

HireClub has created a great tool for our times! Getting laid is off is stressful enough but in the current environment, it's even more so. Add to that the super challenging aspect of sorting out the process of obtaining unemployment and starting your job search journey and it's well....overwhelming. HireClub has done all the heavy lifting here and made the state by state process easy and digestible while also making candidates known to those hiring in the community. Furthermore, there is real time and community information available to those on a state level as well as other services to get you going on your job search - they hold your hand every step of the way. It's a very human-centered and supportive site.
