Perfect use case for the Apple Watch. Receive a notification when...
- Your favorite TV show is live
- It's about to rain
- A specific user posts a new photo on Instagram (great for stalking)
- The stock price of APPL reaches $150
- A new product is posted on Product Hunt with the keyword "emoji"
Nice work, @kozkozkoz.
This is great! Especially given that many things we care about don't necessarily have apps built for them. @kozkozkoz Can you comment on what the top most used hooks/notifications are?
@lorenappin agree. Also, we found that, even if there are vertical apps for some subjects, sometimes users doesn't know they exist or their interest is too casual to install one app for it. Our feeling is that many discover the need inside our application. That's a very good thing in terms of retention but a bad one in terms of marketing.
Most used hooks are:
TV Show New Episode
Rain Alert
Popular Film Released
Software Vulnerability
Horoscope
Football / Soccer Team Results
Music Band Concert
Extreme weather
RSS Feed
New Top Restaurant
And most prolific hooks (by # of notifications) are the ones related to social media monitoring (i.e. twitter by keyword)
@rrhoover - Agreed, have been using for a month on iPhone. My favorites are:
- remind me every 30 days to pay my internet bill
- new episode of Black Mirror to air (been waiting for a while)
- elon musk tweets
- new event nearby with word "startup" in the title
now to get an Apple Watch
Thanks Ryan! I've been using Hooks with my pebble for more then 6 month now and it's actually a great way to get the info (while you are driving, running, etc.).
We have also simplified the alert creation and added 100+ more channels. Also Apple have chosen us as one the first app for apple watch inviting us to their office to test on the watch before the shipping has started :)
And other curious data is, we are sending 350k notifications a day now!
@kozkozkoz Great job crafting those sensible channels. I can easily see the value of subscribing to many of the channels, especially those infrequent but important/vital ones. I think this is better/more human than IFTTT because it's not arbitrary combinations of any two services.
One channel suggestion: good morning with a motivational quote or goal of the day.
Great app! Been using it since release! Question for you @kozkozkoz - Do you plan to implement a form of in-app purchase anytime soon? Would love to see you guys making some money.. =)
Yes @wilwired actually many users are asking to pay :) someone invited me for a beer via PayPal but we are still working on the payable model that could work, any thoughts?
@kozkozkoz@joseleperez - Tough call! Perhaps some in-apps for power users would work without upsetting the casual users. Maybe 10 alerts to start are free, but to unlock unlimited alerts, you pay $2.99 or something around that range. Maybe even toss in some color based skins to give the app a new feel for power users. I'd love a dark/night mode type skin for the app.
How about introducing a Space category/ alert or even one with all upcoming live events. Use case being I want to watch the forthcoming SpaceX launch. Also consider adding an alert to TV/Movies category for movies from a particular production house like, say Disney!
