Are you offering it as a white label service or integration by any chance? I’ve been looking for exactly this.
David E. Weekly
@goldstrom I would love to learn more about what you were looking for. Can you ping me at David@weekly.org and we can talk more?

voice chat apps are blossoming since the pandemic!
Anna Western
I just have to say, I'm so excited to be working on Howdy! 🤠 One of the few positive side-benefits of the pandemic for me was starting to stay in better touch with my extended family over text rather than social media. However typing on a phone keyboard was so slow, and talk-to-text never really worked. I wanted a way to make staying in touch a fast and easy part of my day. To just tap a button, speak naturally and get a high quality transcript, and as an added benefit, be able to listen and hear the recording if I so choose. I remember the first few times David and I were able to successfully message each other outside of work and how easy and magical it felt to hear from him. It felt like we were onto something special. ✨ So I'm really excited to be sharing this app more widely today for more people to experience. And on a personal note, I'm grateful for how this has helped me stay closer to my favorite people and foster those connections in just a few moments each day. I really hope it can do that for more people. If I've learned anything from the isolation of the last couple years, it's how valuable our personal connections are. It's what gives us the most real joy in our every day, and after everything we've been through, it's more important than ever to cultivate and appreciate those. So I hope you give it a try and say howdy to someone special to you today! ❤️

I like the idea. But this would probably be more useful as a keyboard like swiftkey or gboard, rather than a standalone app. Iphones allow microphone access to keyboard apps. Although you might not be able to send a voice recording with the text.

This is great, I get dozens of messages a day though my instagram and typing a reply to everyone is tedious so I just to voice messages. The downside is that while it's easier for me it is much slower for them. This should be integrated into every app with messaging. Have you considered offering this as an API in someway so that other apps can integrate it in some way?
David E. Weekly
@simon_barker1 it's an interesting thought. We've looked at possible API integrations for iMessage & Telegram in particular but most of the platforms we've seen don't allow for microphone access from a plug-in or extension so we are looking at other ways we can cross-integrate effectively. If you have any thoughts on this, would love to hear!

Yes, if you’re interested in testing it out in a community pls let me know. I got a message you replied to my comment but can’t find my comment or the response here. :)

Hi, everyone! Our team built this app to make it super easy to send convenient but intimate messages to friends and family. Status updates let us know what's going on with others but don't make us feel any closer; text messages are helpful but sometimes we want to hear _how_ someone said something. We put state of the art transcription in a very straightforward messaging app to be able to share your voice *and* a high-quality, punctuated transcript (WAAAY better than Siri!) with friends and family for quick on-the-go composition. Recipients then have a choice whether to listen, read, or both. (We're the same team that built Medcorder, the top app for patients to use to record, medically transcribe, and share medical encounters with loved ones.)

Looks amazing! Congrats on the launch!

Great idea - would love if it can integrate with an existing app, as I can't see my friends downloading another message app :)
Anna Western
@mim_o_flynn yep, that is the challenge. But we're hoping you check it out and see how much better an experience it is. It's worth downloading a new app if it makes your life easier! And then it becomes easier to convince friends. :)
Jamie Stirrat
Neat idea! There's always those moments where you can't listen to a voice note for whatever reason and this definitely solves that. However where do you think Howdy fits into the spectrum of existing chat apps?
David E. Weekly
@jamesstirrat it's a good question. I think of this as the beginning of an exploration for a tool to help you maintain and deepen your closest relationships and to provide a "voice first" experience.
