humit is the love child of Spotify and Reddit that let's you share the most powerful moments from your favorite songs to Subreddit-esque channels, which we refer to as 'Stations'
The team behind Humit has asked me to postpone their launch multiple times because of the covid catastrophe engulfing India... with members of their team succumbing. And yet they're ready for their launch now.
Props y'all — props!
Interesting concept for a social medium, I'd be curious to know how people use it and how much they actually interact with other people's hums.
Now questions: why do you need a premium account on Spotify to use it? And will you work on a support for Deezer users?
@rubenwolff currently we support Spotify non-premium users on Android. Support for Apple Music and other services like Deezer would be rolled out soon! So stay tuned :)
Very practical app that facilitates music discovery with the ability to listen to 30s snippets of songs posted by users(and extend + bookmark them if we like what we’re hearing).
Great community, with good taste in music! Several user curated “stations” to check out already, with the ability to create and manage your own. Diverse user base with music from all over the world.
I post there daily myself! Surprisingly addictive :)
Hello folks! I'm Prithvi, Co-founder of humit.
We are stoked to release humit's iOS app to the PH community!
humit is a social app for music lovers that lets you share powerful moments from your favorite songs to subreddit-esque channels called Stations 📻
humit is a fresh new way to bond and engage with like-minded music fans from around the globe 🌎
It makes music discovery serendipitous and sharing music far more addictive.
Give it a shot and see for yourself!
We launched our Android app a while ago on PH (that was #3 POTD) and have amassed over 3,000 users ever since... with over 15,000 hums shared 🎉 and over 400k streams
We also have a bunch of interesting features in the pipeline
1) Externally shareable Stations and Profile pages
2) Personalised station/ friend recommendations
3) An enhanced hum creation experience
4) Improved support for passive listening
Although you can proceed without an invite code, feel free to use mine (503801). At the moment you require a Spotify premium account to use humit, but we're working on support for non-premium and Apple Music users as well.
Stay tuned for updates and please keep the feedback/questions rolling in 😁
PS: We hope you all are safe and sound in the midst of COVID 19. Stay safe and wear a mask!
@prithvi_sankar@osas_calvin Thanks for stopping by! I have doublechecked and aside from changes in
imports (pip no longer having a main function), I could get my code to work
normally (on Linux Ubuntu though). I dont have time to investigate further,
but make sure that youtube_dl actually downloaded the file to the root of
the script. Maybe you also forgot to setup SAVE_FOLDER variable, which I
corrected to be root folder by default.
Check the updated version of the code and let me know how that works for
Nice! Downloaded just now :) I was having a chat with my friend just the other day about putting together some kind of interactive music sharing group that goes beyond collaborative spotify playlists (since we're all still in relatively strict lockdown where we're at.) I'll see if I can get some folks on board :)
Thanks for sharing and best of luck!
I've discovered at least 10 good songs here over the last few weeks of beta testing. If you like music, just download this and use it at least once a day. Thank me later.
High hopes but failed miserably with 5 min of use!!!
Keeping it restricted to Spotify premium and not letting user know before connecting their sporty account and account creation is not a fair practice. Now I’ve account I can’t use or delete and You have access to my Spotify data for no reason.
Hey Whonilay!
Our Spotify based login works just like any other OAuth system. You see a list of scopes that you have to approve before logging in. I do get that maybe we could ask the user to connect his spotify account once registration is done. Lookout for that in a future update :)
Also, Feel free to DM @sudomice on humit to delete your account.
This app is quite honestly a labour of love.
It's a happy, cosy place for everyone into music, and makes the experience much more bite sized and personal. It's like sitting down with your best friend, when they're showing you their favourite riff or beat drop from a song.
Would love to see more kindred spirits join the community!
Is it only on iOS? But people who have Android? Sad. I think that this is a good app for sure, but is it for free or not? It is very problematic and difficult to find a suitable application with much music to download and accessible. It is practically impossible! I was looking a lot for a site that would offer me to download any music from YouTube, and it would be free. Fortunately, I found that one, yay! I found https://coconvert.com/youtube-wa... some weeks ago. From then until now, everything is fine. It is for free, the quality is good, and it is elementary to use. I adore this link, and I am happy that I found it :)
Very interesting app! Music is a social experience and I love that Humit helps me discover new music and shared interests with a wider community. Love the user experience and design... super seamless! Great work, Prithvi and team! All the best. :)
Super interesting idea. Always been intrigued by the idea of music-based social medias and if they were truly viable products, and here this is. Really like the concept, can't wait to see how it grows!
@siddharth_tripathi1 Absolutely! We were inspired to build humit after being confronted with the annoyance of being on multiple FB/WhatsApp groups and DMs with like minded listeners on platforms that were simply not designed for audio.
The platform does what it promises.
A great disco-esque interface and new ways of discovering personalities by the choice of music. Looks like a lot of work has been done to ease out UX in sharing hums. Would love the community to do its thing and create more stations!
@samyak_sahu Love the way you've described your experience! Virtual Disco, it is. Do tell your friends about humit, so they can join and moderate some kick-ass stations!
I remember when in college I had to create a whatsapp group to share music with my friends. Add to that the complexity of so many platforms present.
To even share a verse from a song you had to add a song link with a timestamp which was definitely not the best way to share music.
Then comes Humit, changing the social media landscape for music completely. I have bonded with so many ppl on this platform just on their music tastes. Discovering music has never been easier.
I hope I get to see more people on this awesome community :)
Always wanted to implement such an idea, but you did it, all the best on the journey ahead, amazing work. All those sleepless nights will be fruitful. ❤
Humit is the product I've been waiting for, as a music lover. The best part IMO is that I don't lose any songs recommended by friends and don't have to spend time looking for them through WhatsApp. Waiting for a YouTube premium integration soon too :) gooo team!
This app is just "Love"!! This is one of those apps which you just fall in love with, the moment you open it! Such a wonderful way to share music! Not only can you discover loads and loads of tasteful music here but you also get to meet new people and see how many of them have the same taste in music as you. This is by far the simplest way to share music with your friends and get into those fiery debates over which song/band is better ;)
I have been on humit for a month and I've already discovered 400+ jams, met with the cutest people and learnt many cool things about songs, artists. You can't experience these with a few friends! No doubt humit will be my favorite app for a while more as a person who loves listening to music & sharing good stuff with people. I'm looking forward to meet with new tastes!
Wish you all the best humit team ❤️
@b454k You have been such a great musical influence on everyone, including ourselves! Keep the hums flowing and do help us in spreading the gospel far and wide :)
