I was lucky enough to be part of the early set of people to try this out and it was hella effective for a hangover use-case 🙌 Super excited to see this grow!

The hydration space is getting busier, how exactly is this different to a product like Nuun, or even just Gatorade?
John Sherwin
@ryanstu89 great question - the main difference is electrolyte content. We wanted our first SKU to be really potent so it has: 520mg of Sodium, 390mg of Potassium, 60mg of Magnesium and 4mg of Zinc. This is more comparable to a product like Pedialyte than existing sports drinks and will have a noticeable effect on how they feel if they are dehydrated. I go into more detail on this here: https://www.drinkhydrant.com/blo...

It’s not easy to get your hands on this stuff, but I got to try it and will subscribe as soon as they let me!

Congrats on the launch! I love this and I seriously love the branding. Hope this doesn’t come off as shallow but I’m SO OVER trying to adult but still heading to the baby isle for Pedialyte. Gatorade doesn’t do it for me. Can’t wait to try this!!
John Sherwin
@juliaonken Thanks for the ❤️! I don't think that's shallow at all, the stigma around heading to the baby aisle or even showing up to the office carrying a Pedialyte is something we want to end with Hydrant

Love this idea!

Hey everybody, happy to be on PH and thanks @_jacksmith for the hunt 🙏🏽 Hydrant was born out of a desire for a better hydration product, and a frustration with the "elixir" type claims that many new beverages have. This is not a sports drink. It's based on ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution) products, frequently used for treating dehydration in the developing world. We've taken an old concept and adapted it for modern purposes and a better taste. Modern routines are dehydrating, which impacts cognition and leads to fatigue. Whether it's working out, drinking for work, drinking socially, your annual flu or food poisoning from last night, we've designed a product that you can rely on to get you back to 💯 We're launching our crowdfunding campaign in November, and putting Hydrant through some hardcore testing in the meantime. Why not sweeteners to make it zero calories? this would be perfect if it was zero calories for people who are on a keto diet.
John Sherwin
@cgatbontno I think diet sweeteners compromise the taste of the drink, and so we didn't include them. The sugar also serves a functional role in rehydrating you faster (more on that here: https://www.drinkhydrant.com/blo...). For now this sadly means it won't work for those on a keto diet!
Michael Hood
Reading through this, it looks like your product is basically another hangover cure. Why haven’t you leaned into that more?
John Sherwin
@michael_hood we don't view Hydrant as a hangover cure but as a seriously effective hydration product. Alcohol is a diuretic and causes dehydration, so hydration products can help with some of the symptoms, but we want to differentiate from some of the "cures" that are less scientifically proven. There are a ton of other use cases for good hydration as well, and we're building a brand platform for reliable hydration and nutrition products. Leaning into the hangover angle would probably be more successful in the short term, but we're looking further out! A little more detail on that here: https://www.drinkhydrant.com/blo...
Sylvie Dao
How does this compare to a natural alternative like coconut water?
John Sherwin
@sylvie_dao coconut water has a really high potassium content, 2-3x Hydrant's. But it doesn't contain much of the other electrolytes, so it's really not contributing to that balance. It also has a high calorie content which puts some off, not to mention a polarizing taste. This blog post explains the functional side pretty well: https://www.drinkhydrant.com/blo...
Ahmad Iqbal
Does this give you a buzz like coffee?
John Sherwin
@ahmad_iqbal No buzz - just potent hydration! We decided against adding caffeine and other vitamins to keep Hydrant's value proposition very simple. Plus, we're big coffee fans here ☕️☕️

Received a sample and got to test it out. Convenient way to get hydrated fast and felt a lot more clear headed. Will reco this to other folks who have a busy lifestyle.

Pros:

Taste, Packaging, No BS

Cons:

None that I can think of

Daniel Rodic
Why did you choose sugar over sweeteners?
John Sherwin
@daniel_rodic 2 reasons: taste and function. Diet sweeteners may be great from a calorie standpoint, but from a taste standpoint, I think they are beyond gross with their bitter aftertaste. Secondly, having sugar present activates the sodium-glucose co-transport mechanism in your small intestine. This is like a pump that draws more electrolytes and water into your bloodstream when glucose is present, hydrating you faster. More details here: https://www.drinkhydrant.com/blo...

I was fortunate to try one of John's beta samples.. I think it was version #13. It tasted great! Very clean finish. I see myself drinking this every monday. I don't drink coffee so this is a great product for the afternoons when I'm feeling a little tired.

Pros:

No Aftertaste, packets are convenient to carry around. I like that I can mix it with cold water.

Cons:

Not available yet until November

Jane Dougherty

Can't wait for it to be more widely distributed.

Pros:

Tasty and makes me feel a lot better even when I don't realise I'm dehydrated

Cons:

None

John has done a lot of research into nutrition science, so it's a very credible product. You can trust that it has what you need to be properly hydrated and nothing more! I also tried one of John's beta samples several weeks ago and it was great.

Pros:

A refreshing, 'clean' taste. The flavour is very subtle which is nice. You can tell it's not artificially sweetened.

Cons:

Not that I can think of!

Johannes Jaeckle
