@eindbaas @nivo0o0 Rubber seems like something that would not hold up very well in this context... But hey, there's a 10 year warranty on the belt drive, and a 25 year warranty on the bike ("limited" though...) Plus rust-proof, which is sweet.
Stefan
@shimmb @nivo0o0 Don't think of rubber as in rubber band but rubber as in tire. Brands like Trek use the same belts.
Stefan
@shimmb @nivo0o0 Carbon, interesting. I must've been confused with the wider type. In any case: it will last for some time.

Damn, in Canada the Ikea Family Price makes a $400 difference!

While there are many benefits for a belt-driven bicycle, there are plenty drawbacks too: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Be...

It has an "automatic 2-gear system". How does that work? From manual: " There are two gears that shift automatically depending on the speed at which you are cycling." Neat...

To bad the cart in the front style all over Europe seems to be a "no-no" in the US.

16kg? – No, thanks.
Nelson
@boettges right?! The less sense it makes for a bicycle, the more people like it. That's why most of them will be not utilized after a week or two.
Peter Böttges
@759nelson absolutely...if you add the rear rack it's another kilogram. The fron rack adds even another 2kg. Plus a proper bike-lock and you'll easily reach a total of 20-21kg. My bike is half of that incl. a heavy kryptonite lock and I did not even try to actively buy ultra-light parts.

Pretty interesting bicycle with great features to make customizing the utility (front rack, rear rack, trailer, etc) very easy. Great article about this product here: http://www.core77.com/posts/5965...

This seems like a pretty fair price for belt drive. Most interesting spec: front disc brake and rear coaster brake.
Ruben Bos
Interesting, although in the Netherlands you can get bikes for a similar price. The customization makes me think of Van Moof https://www.vanmoof.com/en_nl/

Tried this out the last time that I was in IKEA; loved the belt drive and solid feel of the bike.

Looks great with all the customisable attributes, however its $200 more than a dedicated aluminum road bike with 105 Shimano parts and disc brakes. I suppose with the addition of mudguards, rear rack, lights, metal pedals, kickstand the prices may come out similar.
Nelson
@mannyorduna example?
Manny
@759nelson Do you not know how to use google?
