Image Display Control is the next generation of responsive images. It connects different sides of web ecosystems and photography workflows, making it easy to ensure that image assets are shown correctly everywhere and always.
Hey Product Hunters! We are thrilled to announce the launch of Frameright and Image Display Control here on Product Hunt.
Frameright is designed for individuals and organizations that use images for internal and external communication, as well as in their products. Our goal is to eliminate ambiguity in image usage, save time, and enable better communication. Even the process of launching on Product Hunt involved navigating through various image requirements. We aim to eliminate confusion when it comes to publishing images.
Here's how it works:
🧑🎨 Creators can save display instructions in the image file's metadata using the browser-based Frameright.app at https://frameright.app
🛠 Developers can integrate IDC metadata support into their systems using our open source libraries at https://github.com/Frameright
🌈 This idea stemmed from the personal experiences of my co-founder Ilkka and myself, but from different perspectives. The concept of using metadata for display instructions arose when we were trying to bridge the gap between tech ecosystems and photography workflows.
From the developer's side, Ilkka and his customers encountered issues with pictures in every project. As a photographer, I experienced frustration because I couldn't do my work effectively. Image size requests kept increasing, and no one knew how the images would be cropped in the end. The processes were messy, and the end result was unsatisfactory. During my master's thesis, I observed that the emerging digital environment was significantly changing the way images are cropped and composed, which was gradually transforming visual culture and storytelling on a large scale.
We are building Frameright and IDC because we want to ensure that visual storytellers have the right tools in the future to freely express their stories.
📡 Today, we would love to learn more about what parts of IDC and Frameright resonate with you at this stage
Cheers,
Marina
Seems like a great product. @marinae what are your thoughts on fully AI generated images and how that might impact your business? Assuming that these images can be generated to fit specific crops/placements etc. from the start.
@kallefreese super interesting question, and something I think about on a daily basis.
So far, cropping and composition have not been given serious consideration in these models. Much of the current training data is based on center-cropped images, resulting in monotonous results.
But even if ML models would be capable of taking the limitations and restrictions of the “frame” better into account, that still only solves part of the problem. The image will still need to be shown in different sizes and aspect ratios on different devices and platforms. Without Image Display Control, it cannot adapt correctly to all those containers.
So Frameright and IDC complement also AI-generated imagery. And to make the process smoother, our own Frameright AI can be used to provide crop composition suggestions. This is not the same thing as generative models creating multiple versions of the same image as hard-crops. Instead, we aim to enable one image asset to adapt to multiple shapes and sizes.
My motivation for building IDC is to ensure that there are the right tools for rich visual storytelling in the future for both machine-generated and human-generated content. As I am writing this, my mind is filled with new possibilities for how images could work. There are many developments that impact and support our business. We are excited to be at the forefront of these advancements.
I have known the team since the early days, and they have consistently demonstrated determination to build and push through this innovation that will revolutionize how images are handled in the digital environment. I'm looking forward to seeing Frameright IDC adopted by professionals around the world!
@bencostantini thank you for you support! AI is a challenging topic for all creators and publishers. We’ve built our Frameright AI in-house with help from media companies and news agencies because it’s really important for us to understand what kind of impact it can have on visual culture.
I think AI can be really helpful, but it shouldn’t be the only approach. Instead we’ve taken an “augmented intelligence” approach, where the AI gives suggestions and guidance, but those can be improved by human users. Context, content and intention is important in news, sales and communications, so it’s important for us that the final decision is always in the hands of the user.
This goes really well with Image Display Control’s metadata approach, because the correct display options can be updated by anyone in the workflow at any time.
But with that said, we have some interesting new AI things coming out soon, so keep your eyes open 👀
This product solves a lot of problems for creatives, particularly automating tedious design tweaks, saving an amazing amount of time. I can't imaging any designer not getting a huge boost in productivity. To me this is another Figma – enabling designers to radically improve workflow and focus on what the do best, create.
This looks great! The metadata based approach is interesting and should make it possible to connect multiple services and systems without a complicated network of APIs. Nice work!
@ingio Thank you! Let us know how Image Display Control fits your needs, we are always super happy to learn more about all kinds of use cases and new ideas 💡
Innovations like your product are an important part to build the next chapter of the internet! Big fan of the product and the team, never stop innovating!
Congratulations on the launch of Frameright and Image Display Control! It's exciting to see a solution that addresses the challenges individuals and organizations face when working with images for communication and product purposes. I believe that these tools have the potential to significantly enhance the image publishing process and improve the overall visual storytelling experience.
Congratulations once again on the launch, and I look forward to seeing how Frameright and IDC evolve. I'm excited to explore the features and provide feedback to help shape the future of these tools.
@qianhua_ge Thank you for your comment. We appreciate any additional feedback once you have had the opportunity to further explore Frameright and IDC. Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions.
Congratulations on the launch! The struggle with image ambiguity and the time wasted on figuring out image requirements is something I can relate to all too well.
@sara_smith12 Thank you! We are happy to hear that we can make your life much easier now. Please reach out to us, and we will ensure a smooth onboarding process for you. You will no longer have to waste time trying to make images fit ✨
Innovation at it's finest. Brand experience is becoming more important than ever, and images are a key part of this. At the same time, every platform uses their own dimensions which are ever so slightly different, changing the outcome completely. Frustrating process, with now finally a promising solution!
