I was tired of pressing ⌘ + i all the time so I built this! It monitors clicks, and arrow key presses to keep track of the currently selected file. It displays all the metadata found in the menu bar or in the panel inspector.

Great tool! When I upgrade to macOS 11, I will definitely use this, until then I am stuck to ⌘ + i. Btw I like the name, it reminded me of the song Informer ;)
Ty Irvine
@milkers Ha! My Dad said Informer should be the theme song lol. Sorry about no support for < 11.0. I built it on Big Sur and when I ported it to Catalina the experience was really bad. I should've built on Catalina or Mojave first and then ported to Big Sur but c'est la vie!
Gregory Wehmeyer
super lite file, too; like a 2 sec download.
Gregory Wehmeyer
Very handy, congrats on creating and providing a simple, useful product.
Ty Irvine
@gregory_wehmeyer Thank you! I made sure to keep the package size small! I was surprised myself at the size when I packaged it lol
Oscar Chong
Awesome!
Ty Irvine
@oscar_chong Thanks!!!
Francis Zierer
Stream? Lined.
Ty Irvine
@francis_zierer Lol, thanks!

Hello! I'm the creator of Informant. It's free, so try it out and see what you think! It took me around four months to make this, working on it off and on. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask! Hopefully, you find it useful! 🥳
Csaba Kissi
@tyirvine I like the idea. Will check it out. Great it's opensource and native! Thanks and good luck!
Ty Irvine
@csaba_kissi Thank you! I haven't open sourced the code quite yet but I think I'm going to. I released it for free because I got rejected on the Mac App Store with no way around it so I sort of released this impulsively lol
Ty Irvine
Thank you everyone for the positivity and making my first hunt a good one! I'll be sure to do a few updates down the line.

Great idea, and I love that you created the app using SwiftUI! Good luck!
Ty Irvine
@tacttm Thank you! It was really fun using SwiftUI for the panel. Everything was super easy. Getting it to cooperate with NSWindow at times was frustrating but I think the support will only get better as time goes on!
Virej Dasani
This looks awesome! You should also consider making it opensource :)
Ty Irvine
@virejdasani Yeah I'm gonna set that up later today! Just have to run some errands!
Chryz-Hub
Cool
Ty Irvine
@chryz_hub Thank you!
