Internal is a Slack application for remote teams to monitor their individual and team-wide emotional health through simple questionnaires and quantitative insights
Internal has been hugely helpful for our team-- allowing to more readily track the human factors that we all bring into the office every day, even though we are not a remote team. Highly, highly recommend.
Internal is officially out of beta and ready to create real value for remote teams!
It has been a long road from transitioning into full time and learning full stack on the fly, but here we are! The concept for Internal arose by working in a remote setting and getting tremendously thrown off by the emotional opaqueness that comes with virtual-only communication. What specifically messed me up the most was never knowing whether or not my messages were bothering my coworker or if they're in a bad mood from outside forces.
So, to save you as much time as possible, we built Internal to replace the insights that one would gather through body language in physical interactions, with quantitative insights for virtual interactions.
Oh very cool! This goes along side one of my favorite tools- a simple question at the beginning of meetings “are you in or out”- meaning, are you present, engaged, ready to chat about the topics presented or are you distracted, concerned about family, etc.
But this helps with remote teams on a day to day basis. Verrrry cool. Helps monitor mental health and manage expectations of the team. Love this!
@ian_scalzo Fair question - I find if they're not fully "in" they give a percentage - "I'm 80% here - just coming out another meeting I'm still processing" - something like that. It really helps to know if you need to take a step back and help everyone re-engage or if the team is ready to fully move forward. - It helps people just be the real versions of themselves.
@jenniferj_pdx I really like this. It's also pretty smart that you take percentages as a way to regroup, as opposed to excusing them from the meeting, such that no one can get out of a meeting on "malicious" intent by lying about their percentage
This Product idea is awesome to make a great company culture and adding more values in employees life. Love the simplicity. @ian_scalzo How many days it takes you to develop and launch this application?
@mdaffankajmi1 Well it took me about a month and a half to stand up the initial public beta release because I had to learn full stack development on the fly. Transferring from beta to official release was around 2 months due to some pivots to properly align the product with what hurts the most in remote team dynamics
Really useful tool - especially relevant for modern companies. The insights benefit individual employees as well as team leaders. A true win-win.
Installing Internal and proactively addressing concerns before they turn into real problems/trends helps teams feel genuinely supported.
