Jot is the no-fuss way to take notes. Our app helps you get all your big ideas and little ‘things to remember’ into a simple, stripped down format. Easy swipe gestures keep your list of notes short and orderly. Remember anything by searching through your full archives. Use quick and easy todo lists, and basic reminders to stay on top of daily life stuff.

Jot leaves out all the fancy, distracting stuff you don’t need: formatting, drawing, tags, categories, shared lists, sync, stickers, etc. It’s just as simple and straightforward as using a piece of paper. Only what you need. No funny stuff.

• Create notes instantly

• No titles or saving

• Distraction free writing

• Quick feed of active notes

• Search through your entire archive

• Customization — turn off spelling, grammar helpers

• Get data out by swipe to copy

Looks pretty slick @myunderpants @brownthings but not seeing how this is different from the native iPhone notes app which allows you to add a note without a title, swipe to delete, gives you a feed of notes and allows full text search? Interested in this space as I have a similar app :)

@myunderpants @antonmccarthy It's subtle, but the big shift is that your notes appear in full (aside from longer ones) on the main feed. So you don't have to constantly "tap in" to each note to see what's in it. Even though you don't need a title, Notes.app forces you to look at all your notes that way in the feed view. Here's how a beta tester put it: "...I find myself making lots of individual notes even if some of them are related, instead of big monster notes full of things ...this makes it easier to use the notes later cause they’re all granular"

@myunderpants @brownthings Cool, I think for someone who uses notes very frequently, that could potentially be useful. I take notes only occasionally so the native app is fine for me. That said, I don't know if having full notes would be enough to make me pay for that feature, as I don't know if having to tap in is that big a deal. Like you say in another comment though, it's very much about preferences so there is probably room for lots of different types of note apps, including this one! Do you think that having a paid app will restrict growth by much, compared to if it were free?

@brownthings @antonmccarthy It's a valid concern. We wanted to strike a balance between making the app accessible, and not completely devaluing our work. I think we'll be open to adjusting that balance as time goes on, if we're not making the sort of impact we'd like.

Feels a lot like Letterspace. (https://programmerbird.com/lette...)

Nice design. Not sure if I want to pay for another note taking app without much differentiation though.

Congrats on the launch @brownthings + @myunderpants 🙌 Do you have any plans for making it multi-platform anytime soon? 🖥️📱 PS: Never thought I'd tag '@myunderpants' in a message 😂
Matt Brown
@myunderpants @amrith Thanks for your interest in Jot. Multi-platform is on our future roadmap... but likely through an OSX desktop app or a web UI.
Joel
@brownthings @amrith That's why I chose "myunderpants". You deserve a little whimsy in your life!

Hi Team, congrats on the launch! Love the simple UI and design. It's been great for light weight and quick notes.

Why is there a new note taking app on PH almost every day? xD
Joel
@eivindml Honestly, the main answer is that note taking is very personal. I don't think it's possible to make one product that will suit every need. Everyone (us included) makes exactly what they want, in the hopes that it'll scratch the itch for a few other people in the world too. Another answer is that because the core requirements of a note taking app are so conceptually simple, it offers a lot of room to explore. It's a fun passion project--and then having built it, why not put it out in the world?
Anton McCarthy
@eivindml @myunderpants This is what I've realised lately too. For anything you want to build, rest assured there will be zillions of competitors in some shape or form, and the level of traction you'll get is always going to be an unknown quantity. So you may as well scratch that itch and build your thing ;)

The UI and general design look really nice. It‘s useless though if I can not sync it with a native OS X app because thats how me/people use note apps 90% of the time.
Joel
@janosspindler Thanks János! It's on the roadmap. Baby steps… ;)

Ok, this is hands down the best app for managing little tasks and little notes. It solves all the gripes I had with the Apple notes app, and the Apple reminders app, and it did it all in one tiny simple app. Believe it or not, this app has made it to the dock on my phone. That is precious real-estate. Also, since downloading the app, I’ve gotten a ton done. It’s great because you can access notes from the main screen without ever having to tap one open like you do in the Apple notes app, and so many other task apps. I use the reminders function instead of scheduling small tasks in my calendar like before. Despite this being a task app, it’s has not replaced Trello, slack, or any other collaborative task management software. This app is great for everything else, all the small things, that would never be appropriate to log on a shared app with teammates. The ux is amazing, and you know it’s great when you accidentally do the correct action. It means they thought of the user’s behaviors enough to realize what would be the most intuitive gestures to use. There is so much more going on behind the scenes ux wise, they clearly thought of everything, and managed to avoid making a bloated app. This app is lean, intuitive, and best of all useful. This app gets 9.5/10
