Awesome pair of founders and this looks like quite a beast of a product. There's been a number of companies that have tried incremental technology implementations in the kitchen (eg I have a digital probe etc), but I haven't seen anything close to going as far as this. Per the description, it really does seem to be a computer that cooks. @mvanhorn : it looks like you ramped to a team of 22 pretty fast. given you've got so much tech in this product, where did you start by going about creating it and what roles were your first few hires?
Matt Van Horn
@_jacksmith Thanks, Jack! Our first hire was an electrical engineer, Amanda Tyree. Breakdown of the team right now is: 3 Mechanical Engineers, 3 Oven Engineers (UI, frameworks, embedded), 1 Manufacturing Design Engineer, 2 UI/UX designers, 2 Electrical Engineers, 2 iOS Engineers, 1 Machine Intelligence engineer, 2 Server engineers, 2 PMs

@mvanhorn Oven Engineer is a pretty awesome job title.
Tom Redman
@mvanhorn @_jacksmith Will you support Android?
Jack Smith
@nikbhogal : You've got an insane amount of tech in there. Is there any other tech that you thought about including, but that didn't make the cut (even insane stuff like including Apple Pay to sell your cookies or something)

Great concept and video. It's about time someone replaced the old fashioned grimy toaster ovens. Bravo. When do you see the price point going down from $3k?
Matt Van Horn
@stvmcg $1395 with the $100 on PH today
Daniel Jacob Archer
This is awesome. I want one for every kitchen I'm ever in. Maybe a travel bag accessory?

At first I was like, "really?" but when I read some of the features and descriptions, I'm pretty impressed. Could you imagine if every microwave even just had the weighing feature? I hate guessing the weight of 6 chicken breasts when thawing. The weighing feature alone solves so many problems. If no one has done that, I would license that patent. Some of the other things seem gimmicky and really add to the $3k price tag.
Ouriel Ohayon
great but 1500 USD on pre order (2500 USD after)?
Matt Van Horn
Nikhil and I are really excited to share June with everyone today. Kitchen innovation has been stagnant for years, not much has come since the microwave was popularized in the 70s. So we set out to create the June Intelligent Oven. This is a countertop oven that will bring restaurant quality results to the food you make in your kitchen. We would love to hear from you. What features would you like to see on the oven and in our applications? What types of recipes should we develop before shipping? P.S Product Hunters get $100 off with code "PH100". This will be taken off your final order!

@mvanhorn Is this awesomeness only 110V or 110/220V?
Erik Torenberg
@mvanhorn Congrats on the launch, Matt! Refreshing to see things like this. Out of all the things you could be working on, why this?
Raul Riera
@mvanhorn Does it support HomeKit? this can be the beginning of everything
Matt Van Horn
@cprins_ @mvanhorn 110V right now. 220V later.
Matt Van Horn
@eriktorenberg @mvanhorn My co-founder and I love cooking and technology, and looked at the kitchen today and knew it could be so much better.

I've seen this thing in real life - it's one of the coolest/most professional hardware startup products I've ever seen. Very cool guys and congrats on the launch.
Matt Van Horn
@jjbeshara Thank you!
Tim Dorr
Tegra K1? Kind of overkill, dontcha think? :) Why not go with a cheaper SoC?
Michael Sitver
I think this is overkill, but I love some of the features (i.e video-livestream, the ability to check remotely if you left it on)
Corley
@nikbhogal @mvanhorn, I have to ask - what is the inspiration behind the name June? My guess is Leave it to Beaver, but that may not be the case. ;-)
Omar
@corleyh I see a trend with hardware startups naming their companies after names of the month. See: @AugustSmartLock
Matt Van Horn
@corleyh We liked the warm associated feelings with summer and having a nice ring to it. It's sadly not named after June Cleaver, though we are fans!

I think this is awesome, but isn't $3,000 MSRP a lot for a 'smart' toaster oven?
David Wong
@brybell for the size yes it is a lot. But I guess we should get excited about the technology, price go down later
Evan Zhou
As someone who wants to cook better but doesn't have the time to put in to learn, this is awesome! As someone without a boatload of cash to spare, not so awesome. Looking forward to following your journey! And please name your next product July haha

This seems like a 10x product. Seems like a hugely growing number of industries are ready for disruption now
Matt Van Horn
@elbahnasy Thank you!
Frank
Yea, it's cool and all but the people on PH must be making some serious dough, pun intended, to consider paying this much for a toaster oven. If I were to come home with this, even considering the PH discount, my wife would kick me out of the house and tell me to live in the darn thing because it costs as much as our mortgage payment. I guess there's a market for just about everything and I wish this company luck, they seem to know what they're getting into.
Yann S.
Do you plan on releasing this for europe? Awesome project, would def buy.
Matt Van Horn
@yannskar Hey there! Not in this first batch, but absolutely. Add yourself to the list by emailing out support team and we'll let you know. https://juneoven.com/about.html#...
Rishi Mathur
This seems like an amazing product with great tech but the reserve now button is a bit misleading. It would be helpful if you disclosed your pricing upfront. Great product though!
Eric
Really like and intrigued by this new product! I've been hearing a lot about the remake of kitchen appliances and nice to see this one take the leap. Looks like a beautiful design and lots of powerful features. I want to take the leap and reserve with you guys but big Q for me is what was QA like (and for how long) and is there a warranty/prod support? Thanks and congrats.
Matt Van Horn
@bonfire202 Eric - Right now we're just saying a 1 year warranty, but we care about customer experience. Especially on our first pre-order users, if it's breaks and our fault, we will fix it.
Nikhil Bhogal
We really wanted great gpgpu performance for our computer vision stack and leave headroom for future improvements.
