I've tried my fair share of Japanese learning apps - one thing I will say about Kana is it's the prettiest. I'm a sucker for design and if something looks good, I'm more likely to revisit it. Aside from the design form, it takes a different approach to learning Kanji and Japanese allowing you to explore each one instead of trying to unlock them which is great if you're learning practically alongside movies, Anime, or even in Japan.

After several months of beta testing Kann with over 1,000 active users, I'm excited to share this new addition to the Japanese learning ecosystem. Kann was born from a personal frustration: existing Japanese learning tools often follow rigid programs that don't align with individual interests. Rather than being limited to dictionary lookups or predetermined vocabulary lists, I wanted to create a more engaging way to learn Japanese words in topics that actually matter to you. Whether you're looking to develop specialised vocabulary or just starting your Japanese journey, Kann adapts to your interests and learning style. What makes this project even more special is that it's my first venture into coding. The enthusiastic response from our beta testers has exceeded my expectations, and I'm grateful for everyone who's been part of this journey. Thank you for taking the time to explore Kann. I hope it helps make your Japanese learning experience more enjoyable and personalised.

I like learning languages and TBH, I consider Japanese very difficult to learn because di different signs. Anyway, you created something that seems to be a good start. Is it suitable for total beginners?

@busmark_w_nika I think it's pretty fair for beginners but kanji will never get easier lol

@busmark_w_nika I added the basics (Hiragana/Katakana/Radicals) to help freshen up your memory but the app assume you have a good reading and speaking understanding. It is very much focused on Dictionary words and example phrases so if you start here you might take on nasty habits in reading. To be fair, combining Kann and some Youtube practice should jumpstart your learning journey!

Congrats on the launch! This looks like a fun way to focus on the vocab you need. What's your favorite topic to study in Japanese?
Anatole Ambroise Oïshi Ayadi
@ihuzaifashoukat as a Designer trying to get a job in Japan my current Dictionaries in the app are the Design and the Business Dictionary. I did my best to include borrowed word as well as native / traditional Japanese words to get the full spectrum of knowledge. Tho the most fun will remain the Slangs dictionary ✨
