Good Morning Product Hunt! I’m Neil Batchelor, Co-Founder of Guardian Labs. Our first dapp is called Keyper, and it offers a simple to use but highly effective solution to one of the biggest headaches in crypto and web3: seed phrases. Guardian is decentralised, and doesn’t store your wallet information, so your personal data will always remain self-sovereign. Your seed phrase acts as the master password to your cryptocurrency wallet – it is the key that secures and grants you access to your crypto assets (coins, tokens, NFTs, etc). Unfortunately, if your seed phrase is misplaced, stolen or hacked, your entire portfolio of digital assets could be lost forever. There’s nobody to call, and no password reset procedure. This is going to happen to lots of people, and it’s going to feel really bad. This presents a serious security risk. Store your seed phrase on your phone, computer or in the cloud, and it risks being hacked. Store it offline, and it risks being lost, damaged or stolen. According to Forbes, over $200bn of crypto has been lost forever because of mistakes, accidents or user error. Keyper provides a simple, cryptographically secure, decentralised solution. The Keyper dapp lets you create a network of trusted individuals (friends, family and fiduciaries) to be your Guardians, and help you protect your seed phrase. Using a process known as sharding, your seed phrase is encrypted, broken down into fragments, and distributed amongst your Guardians. But wait a minute, haven't you been told that you should never, ever share your seed phrase with anyone ? Yes, in general, that’s true. But Keyper has a carefully designed process that lets you store your seed phrase, but without ever sharing it with anyone or anything. It's fully secure, and you can be sure that no part of your seed phrase can ever be viewed or used by anyone but you. Here’s how: The dapp is never able to take, or store a copy. Keyper is fully open source, so that you (and experts you can trust) can verify that it does everything that it says exactly as described. You enter your seed phrase in Airplane mode, so your device is fully offline and ‘cold’. Before you go back online, it is fully encrypted to military-grade standards, sharded and wiped from your phone, and then fragments are sent out to Guardians. Each fragment is useless on its own. None of your Guardians can see or access your assets. No-one even knows what the seed phrase is for - there’s no way to link it to the wallet it applies to. Everyone and everything else in the process is blind to the seed phrase. If you wish to retrieve your seed phrase, simply start the recovery process in the app and ask your Guardians to approve your request. Voila! With Keyper it’s your digital assets, your data, your seed phrase – secured by the devices and people you can trust. Our Ultimate Recovery feature ensures that if one or more of the devices in your network of trusted individuals is lost or goes offline, your seed phrase is always retrievable. And we’ll be adding a Legacy protocol later this year that helps you make sure that if anything happens to you, your assets will still not be lost Keyper – due for release in June – is the first of many products from Guardian.
