Joshua Pinter
Really, a designer created this?
Peter Duris
Hi @joshuapinter. Thanks for your feedback. I think I know where you are pointing with this. Alignments!!! We will set aligns better. You can also edit them while filling resume. However, please feel free to suggest any improvements so we can make Kickresume better for ALL. Some templates might look very, let's say busy, but those are desinged for conservative jobs where you need to include as much information as possible on one page. 💭
Adrian Pica
Looks awesome. I came across many articles about ATS resume scanning in big companies. As far as I know, many ATSs don't parse .pdf docs very well. Kickresume seems to support only PDF download. Have you thought about this?
Peter Duris
@adrianpica Grat question Adrian 🖖. Kickresume was tested with most popular Applicant Tracking Systems and resume parsers. They can read 99% of the information in our resumes 🙌 which is pretty impressive number. Actually we are more focused on content of resume and on using right keywords. That's why we created database of 17 000 resume phrases with keywords for each profesion. You can simple use them in your resume and rank higher in ATSs 🔝💻. It's like SEO for your resume. On the other hand, advantage of PDF is that it looks the same in every browser, parsing software etc.
Piero Borgo
Love this! But I have a couple of questions: how does the grammar check work? Is the resume checked by human or just editing software?
Peter Duris
@pieroborgo Hi Piero, thanks for asking. Great questions. When you choose our Grammar Check, one of top-notch editors will personally review your resume. They will correct all grammar mistakes and improve the readability of your resume (in 24 hours). Based on research, you can increase your chances to getting a job by 60% if your resume is without grammar mistakes. 🕵✍👌🤘
Mircea Vadan
Many companies accept resumes only in .doc format. Is it possible to download my resume as a .doc file?
Peter Duris
@mirceavadan Thanks for asking Mircea. Kicresume currently allow you download and create documents in PDF and HTML. We considered .doc format and cosulted it with several top recruiters. Final decision was made and we keep documents only in PDF. Its better with formatting, generating and even in some case of resume parsing.
Thomas Schranz ⛄️
@peduris @mirceavadan might be worth to consider adding .doc support (if it is not super difficult) and have it available for the people who really need it (think: jobs-to-be-done) but UX-wise focus on and encourage PDF usage.
Peter Duris
@__tosh @mirceavadan That is correct. We will add .doc export to some templates where we will be 100% sure that .doc will keep formating and structure. Thanks for feedback 👌📄📁
Chris Oslund
Cool stuff! Totally a subjective thing, but I was hoping more of the templates would not use the skill level/star piece. They just always come across as ambiguous to me (what's the difference between a 4-star skill and a 5-star skill for instance)? Can you disable those when you fill out your own template?
Tomas Ondrejka
Hi @eighttwo_three, you can simply use your own words for skill level. According to skill scaling system - we had a pretty long discussion about this feature. Now users can simply use stars, bars or words. At first we wanted to allow our users to use just text also because of resume parsing. We added star system later because some of our users asked for it.
Attila Bujdosó
minor suggestion: it would be awesome to be able to navigate between the templates with LEFT / RIGHT cursors and arrows.
Tomas Ondrejka
@bujatt good point. We will fix it. Thank you! :)
Attila Bujdosó
Hi, I like the concept of being able to quickly (sorry, kickly :) ) create resumes. I signed up with Linkedin and somehow expected that Kickresume would import my data from Linkedin - but it didn't. Linkedin is the only place I keep my professional info updated and I'd prefer to keep it like this.
Tomas Ondrejka
Hi @bujatt, great point! It was possible to import all your data from LinkedIn in past (it was pretty fast and useful) Unfortunately LinkedIn changed their policy and now we are unable to import your information via their app. It was a great feature so we decided to try it another way. Now you can simply import your LinkedIn data in 3 easy steps. 1. Download your LinkedIn profile in PDF 2. Upload it to Kickresume 3. Edit and download it or create a personal website. Here is a step-by-step video:
Attila Bujdosó
@tomas_ondrejka thanks, wanted to try but I see it's a pro feature. Plus again, it's a manual process - I would prefer an automated one which keeps my resume up to date all the time
Tomas Ondrejka
@bujatt you can get premium plan for free. Just use promo code ''producthunter'' At this time it's the easiest way to import LinkedIn data to Kickresume. We are also working on a browser plugin to make import easy and fast 👌 Maybe LinkedIn will allow users to import data in future 🙏 but we are not going to wait for it.

Thanks @jpramey for your question. This is something that many founders have struggled with. During the last years, we've learned a lot. The Team - We've learned that we need to show our passion for what we do, be willing to give everything and the result will come itself. Now we are lucky to be surrounded by exceptional individuals and the best engineers in Slovakia. What you don't measure, It doesn't grow - Great mentors from The Spot accelerator have been around us last year. They did a great job and told us about key metrics. We have learned If we want to grow fast we need to know everything about our users and target market. We spent a lot of time and money to analyze, test and validate our ideas. (for example, we changed our pricing 10(!) times) CTO - technology company needs CTO. We rewrite whole code from scratch 3 times. Spent so much time and money on it. Now we have finally experienced senior devs in the team so it's an amazing. Ask for advice, but make it as you feel - We've met many great and experienced mentors. All of them said something totally different. We've learned that we need to filter advices and do the things as you feel Sometimes you just need to simply say, no. There is a lot of thigs I would love to say. These are the most important for me. @jpramey feel free to add your comment and experience you have had.

Nice product, but not as advanced as http://www.doyoubuzz.com One advantage of DoYouBuzz is that the freemium version actually lets you produce a full free version of your CV (no education in the kickresume free plan CV !). The advantage of Kickresume is to include Covers letters and Web pages
Peter Duris
@pvk Hi Pascal. In Kickresume we actually offer Freemium too. You can create full free version of you CV. We have also outstanding help center - https://www.kickresume.com/help/... Help Center is completely free, full of Samples, How To guides and Insider tips and Tricks. Samples are able to re-use with one click on Kickresume. Feel free to check it out and get inspire. We also prepared 50 000 phrases - ready to use in any resume, free of charge(comming very soon). So yes there is also Premium account in which our users find All templates, Graphic sections, Cover Letters, Personal Website and many more. It's amazing package worth of upgrading with outstanding results.
Pascal Vuylsteker
@peduris You are right. I had two separate Education blocks in my test CV, and that was the aspect restricted to the premium option. I moved my two education items into one single Education block and that removed the limitation. That is an interesting concept that you authorise such organisation, probably to let user introduce continuous education in the middle of work experiences. Now about one of the other side of the CV issue. I am currently using DoYouBuzz ( https://www.producthunt.com/post... ) not only for my personal CV, but as a tool to manage the CV of the Students and Alumni of the MIM programme that my organisation delivers. All their CV are attached to our Student Information System through an API provided by DYB and I can let our corporate partners search through that specific pool of CV. Would you provide some similar kind of tool for Universities/Schools?
Peter Duris
@pvk Exactly how you said. We have been supported by American fundation to get this tool across Universities. This is currently our next step ;) Please feel free to contact me at peter@kickresume.com
Dan Rosenshain
Looks like a good product, but I really dislike the aggressive price change between annually and monthly charges. You know job searching is temporary, so users will prefer to be charged monthly, but monthly charges carry a 300% (!!!!!) increase in pricing. Can you explain the reasoning behind this? (And be honest?)
Tomas Ondrejka
Hi @danr_4 thanks for your question! Kickresume is not only resume builder. Users can create a minimalistic personal website from their resumes in minutes - our users simply love it. Our vision is to make from Kickresume not only resume builder but also personal branding tool. That's one of the reasons why our annual pricing is less expensive. On the other hand, we have tested more than 10(!) pricing models to fit our user's needs and subscription model was most successful. We tried ''pay per download'' model and it was much more expensive. Last but not least - we have to cover our acquisition cost per user (we have 7 people in our team).
Dan Rosenshain
@tomas_ondrejka Thank you for replying but you babbled about features and vision and pricing models when all I asked was why is the price change aggressive between monthly and annually. I understand subscription is the right model. Only the last statement is related to my question - you need to cover your expenses - so you aggressively push users to pay annually even though they are most likely to use it for no more than 6 months. That's logical, if your acquisition costs dictate it, but what you are practically saying is that your business model only works if users pay excessively for monthly subscription or they pay moderately for a period of time way beyond what they need. Though, if you are doing well, this means the product is good, since users are willing to take the hit. But if your business model isn't sound, competition could lower prices and make you obsolete.
Thomas Schranz ⛄️
@danr_4 @tomas_ondrejka from my point of view it makes sense for people to have an up-to-date resume and available all the time (that's why I think the website part of the offering in addition to the cover letter is quite compelling). That's also what I recommend to everyone I know. Especially in the creative industry everyone is hiring all the time, no matter if you have a job or not. Just check your mail or LinkedIn inbox. So imho it also makes sense to have an up-to-date resume even if you are not looking for a new gig and only want to have the reassurance that you have other options and want to regularly check your market value. How I see it: by offering a subscription model and discounted longer-term plans they (Kickresume) align their business model with the customer relationship. This imho is a good sign. Another way to view the pricing strategy is to show that by signing up for longer term you get a heavy discount (therefore supporting the right decision/behavior & attracting more customers who are a good fit who think about their career longer-term and not gig-based on/off). Pricing models can be a great way to filter your customer base & to incentivize people to make the right decisions. When you look at how the Economist (newspaper) is priced you will see that they incentivize longer-term subscriptions as well as taking the print + digital versions which imho is the right way for them to align their focus & incentives with mine as a reader (I want them to invest in their digital offering and I want them to continue high quality journalism that doesn't depend on clickbait cover stories to sell the current issue. I want them to take the long-term view). @danr_4: how would you change their pricing and what reasoning/strategy would you follow ("why")?
Tomas Ondrejka
@danr_4 we are still testing prices so we decided to test higher price change between monthly and annual plan to give our loyal users better price. In fact 48% of our visitors are returning visitors. You can also check our competitors, they have much higher prices with fewer features than Kickresume.
Peter Duris
@__tosh @danr_4 @tomas_ondrejka Great Q&A. As was mentioned, Kickresume helps users to get visual and visible. That is a long therm process. @danr_4 Thanks for your question. It's true there is huge difference. Also another way to look at it is that the yearly plan is heavily discounted because we want to go the long way with our customers. I appreaciate help so please feel free to suggest any ideas.
Bernhardt Scherer
Idea is great but the templates are rather poor quality from design perspective... typography, alignments, use of whitespace etc. have space for a lot of improvement. Go for it!
Tomas Ondrejka
@bboernard thank you for your feedback! We created our templates with the help of hundreds of world-class recruiters. One of the advice was to ''add a white space'' into resume templates to make it easy to read. We are still working on pixel perfect design so any feedback is welcome :) You can also customize every resume template (fonts, colors, alignments...)
Bacheller
@tomas_ondrejka @bboernard Tomas I don't think Bernhardt is saying using whitespace is bad but the way it's being used isn't up to par. I have looked at many design resumes and the number one pet peeve of mine is the skill scaling system. Software skills should never be presented in a 5 star or a fill-bar iconography. Photoshop for example can be used by many different types of professionals and my 5/5 of photoshop doesn't compare to my coworkers 5/5 which makes it completely arbitrary.
Tomas Ondrejka
Hi @bacheller, we are still working on our PDF rendering engine. It's pretty complex problem to generate pixel-perfect PDF resume with all the graphic. According to skill scaling system - we had a pretty long discussion about this feature. Now users can simply use stars or words. At first we wanted to allow our users to use just text also because of resume parsing. We added star system later because some of our users asked for it.
Stefano Zorzi
Hi guys, good to see you here! It's amazing to see the progresses you have made on the product. Keep up the great work!
Alex!
You may want to do more research for what exactly constitutes a high-quality resume. Especially for positions in the US, many of your templates will not only not get you hired, but will 100% guarantee that your resume will never, ever, get looked at. Most obvious example: personal photos in resumes. Many corporations have very strict rules which prevent them from accepting any resume which features a candidate's picture. Another example: Your funky layouts may look cool (although honestly, some of these really are not designed very well at all), but they'll also likely to fare poorly when it comes to being able to be OCR'ed and ingested into a resume database. This is extra burden and headache for a recruiter, and again, a totally unnecessary hurdle that could've been easily avoided. You guys should really partner closely with real recruiters to understand what works and what doesn't.
Tomas Ondrejka
Hi @imaznation, thank you for your feedback! Kickresume is used by people from all over the world. Resumes differ from country to country and that's one of the reasons why we offer many customization features (like photos on resume). Did you know that perfect resume in some Arabic countries is around 5 pages long? Users can simply create a country-specific resume. We have prepared stylish resumes for job seekers in marketing, bartending, retail...etc; very conservative templates for jobs in business, bank, government, legal, executive...etc; and something between for jobs like administration, customer services, internship, IT...etc. The priority of all templates is readability by ATSs. We tested our resume templates with CVlizer® which is one of the most popular parsing software in the world. We got pretty great results - it can read (parse) around 98% of the information in our resume templates. We are also working on ATS Ready resume template which will be specially customized for parsing systems.
Jakub Kolar
Hi guys, it seems you did a really good job with Kickresume, but I think that classical paper version of resumes are going to die and companies are more focused on your LinkedIn profile ... am I wrong ?
Peter Duris
This is very good point @kolar_jakub. Thanks for asking this kind of question. If this was true, people would send emails with nothing but a link to their LinkedIn profile to potential employers. But they don’t. If you’re looking for a job, to have a LinkedIn profile is important as a complement to your resume.
Peter Duris
@kolar_jakub If you are more interested in this topic we created article on our blog early this May. You can find it here ➡️➡️ https://blog.kickresume.com/2015...

Thomas, thank you for hunting us! Excited to be on Product Hunt! We’re Kickresume, an easy resume, personal website and cover letter builder. Kickresume started out as an experiment back at University, when me (Tomas) and Peter needed to write a resume for an internship. We created a simple resume building tool for us and our friends to use. After a couple of months, though, when we found that over a thousand people is using Kickresume, it became more than just a hobby for us! Many young people don’t really know how to create a good resume just like we didn’t back then. Kickresume wants to help people build a beautiful and professional resume and land their dream job. On top of our range of awesome resume template designs, Kickresume offers many other features such as the cover letter builder, grammar check and our brand new feature that allows people build their personal website directly out of their resume with just one click . We have many plans to improve Kickresume, we’re adding new features practically every week so there are plenty of other amazing things to look forward to! We’d really appreciate your feedback, it helps us grow and improve. To return the favor, we’ll give you a special promo code to use Kickresume Premium with 30% discount. PROMO CODE: producthunter

@webyourmind thanks a lot! I am happy that you like Kickresume 😊

@permanatian thank you for your feedback! It's already fixed :)
Akshay Chaturvedi
@tomas_ondrejka Help run a company in the entry level job space, called babajob.com, in India. Would love to understand how people, who aren't exactly your early tech adopters, could use the product.
Tomas Vysny
This is really cool! Kickresume seems like a neat all-in-one solution for job seekers. How has Kickresume started and how many people are there in your team?
Tomas Ondrejka
Hi @tomas_vysny great question! We put Kickresume together with @peduris back at university when we needed to write a resume for an internship, so we created a very simple tool for us and our friends. In a few months, though, we found Kickresume used by a couple of thousand people! That’s when we decided to move Kickresume to another level. We have seven great people in our team at this time. ✌️
Alex Bauer
Genius idea. Can't even count how many friends and family members have asked the 'how do I make a resume' question.
Tomas Ondrejka
@alexdbauer we asked the same question back at the university! That's why we created Kickresume for us and our classmates. I think that the same problem had also more than 400K people who tried Kickresume.
Kalpesh Singh
Hey Tomas, I stumbled upon KickResume few months ago. I have audited the site and must say that I like resume designs, features, pricing, blog, job board etc. What should I expect next? You guys covered everything. Any plan to start job fairs, talks in school/college about importance of resume or annual mega event on resume? Btw, why three Tomas in team. 😂
Tomas Ondrejka
Hi @kalpeshsingh, thank you so much for your feedback! We are just at the beginning with Kickresume. Our mission is to help young people get a job because unemployment of young people is a huge problem which will be hard to solve. 💪 We are launching Kickresume for Education by the end of this year. All students will get our app totally for free to learn how to write a perfect resume. We tested it with selected universities and the results were great. We are also developing a matching system which will find you a job according to data in your resume. In other words, it will be ''LinkedIn for young people'' without annoying recruiters. 🙏 You just pick interesting job offer and send resume (or link to personal website) with one click. It's pretty funny that we have three Tomas in our team. Can you imagine when someone in our office shout ''Hey Tomas...'' 😂😂😂
Tomas Peniasko
Super robota, a tiez rad vidim dalsi SK produkt na PH ;)

@tomaspeniasko thanks Tomas, We are also glad that some people from our home know about Kickresume on Product Hunt
