Hi PH!
Excited to have @mwseibel hunt us, Thank you! Our team is thrilled to launch Kidato to the Product Hunt community!
Kidato is an online school for K-12 kids in Africa. We started by offering after-school classes but now parents are using us to completely replace brick-and-mortar schools.
The Challenge
In most African countries, primary and secondary education has stagnated post itโs colonial design.
Public education curriculum are rarely upgraded to align to modern industry needs and often lack in offering better quality in development processes like critical, innovative and analytical thinking; strategic planning and problem solving skills at an early age, an even bigger problem is the student to teacher ration in public schools is 1:50, this leads to the mushrooming of expensive private schools that charge up-wards of $7500 per child, exclusive of other costs such as transport, lunch, uniform, miscellaneous expenses etc, an average African middle class family has 3 kids, pushing this number to over $20,000 per year for most families.
Solution:
Have classes with small student-teacher ratios to ensure high quality, but also build an online infrastructure that makes Kidato more affordable for middle-class Africans than current private school offerings and most important, pay teachers better.
How:
- We hire vetted certified tutors, experts in online teaching.
- Reasonable work hours and better remuneration for teachers.
- Classes in small groups of 5 to 8 students per class.
- Support parents with hardware (laptop & books) included on enrollment.
- Designed learning to promote critical, innovative and analytical thinking.
- We include social activities and after-school classes like debate, sports and field trips to ensure holistic learning.
- Be 30% more affordable than existing mid level private schools offering international curriculum's.
Who is this for?
- Public school parents who want better quality education without breaking the bank.
- Home schooling parents who want to supplement learning with professional tutors.
- Private school parents who desire the same or better quality but affordable.
- Diaspora parents who desire for their children to learn languages like Swahili, Igbo, Yoruba, Khosa, Zulu, etc.

Looks like a great product. As a new dad who appreciates the need to take my daughter through an alternative form of education i.e home schooling. This will form a basis of a hybrid customizable experience for our children.
Canโt wait to try it out in a few years.
Just one suggestion for the PH page: move the landing page screenshot as first image (it's my opinion)... Anyway, great product and good luck with this launch
