Hello, with products like gleam and the likes, what's the main advantage of using this over them?
noah kagan
@orliesaurus Right now not much besides the price. Soon, a lot =)
orliesaurus
@noahkagan cool, i can respect that - i'll put you in my spreadsheet of "things to look at later on this year"
noah kagan
@orliesaurus Thanks mate!

@devinrajaram Is it working now Devin?

I like the new version, Is really accesible to startups or people with limited budget, other similar products are expensive.

I guess that's fair they'll keep supporting the plugin if we don't want to pay for the SaaS version. I'm disappointed that they would position the new version as "free for you as an existing customer" when there's absolutely no additional benefit to being an existing customer. They should just say it's free for everyone.
Etienne Juneau
@michaelfolling Same thought here lol, that's just misleading and bad marketing. Way to alienate your customers guys, well done!
noah kagan
@michaelfolling Hey Michael. We are a work in progress. Thanks for the feedback.
noah kagan
@michaelfolling @etiennej Did not mean to mislead at all. Just should have said we added a web version. I want to thank the guys who sweated to make this for people. Hope you like it and love any feedback on the product itself.

Noah, if the plugin is going to a saas model, what happens to all the lifetime plugin owners?
Scott Wyden Kivowitz
@noahkagan will lifetime users get access to the paid web app or only free access?
Etienne Juneau
@noahkagan @scottwyden Same question here. Will lifetime users get access to the paid web app or only free access (that everyone has anyway?)
noah kagan
@scottwyden hey Scott. There is no real benefit to paid as we gave all the features for free. Some people want no branding and to fully customize the giveaway so you'll always have lifetime access to the plugin. We are evaluating pricing. Love all comments. The team worked hard so want to thank them!
Scott Wyden Kivowitz
@noahkagan The custom branding is a major selling point of the WP plugin. You're forcing people to pay for it again if they plan on switching to the saas system. My recommendation would give lifetime WP plugin users access to the same thing in the saas system.
noah kagan
@scottwyden Morning Scott. Email me and I'll take care of you. I get both sides. But its kinda like saying if you buy 1 thing from a company then any future thing should be given? What do you recommend? I'd like your input.

@faisal_hassanx Is it fixed? I think its working...

@noahkagan Yes. Thank you. A couple days ago, I saw these guys doing a giveaway where people could buy chances for $0.50. Similar to a lottery. Do you guys at Sumo have anything like that or can I customize this product to do that?
noah kagan
@faisal_hassanx Ha. We are actually going to add that next into KingSumo :)

When I started my podcast I was looking for a tool that could help me get traction and KingSumo was that tool! Often when interviewing people I would ask them to for a giveaway I could use for my listeners and having KingSumo was the perfect way to run my giveaways and grow my podcast. Looking forward to using this new version!

Hi @noahkagan,@dmkthinks First of all, congratulations for this launch. I am really happy that the Sumo Team came up with 'SaaS' model of it as the recurring money is always needed for further development and continuous feature upgrades for any cool tool. Having said that you should keep updating the WordPress version as well, which was only updated just a few times in all years of its existence. Tools like Mautic, Discourse etc. does have self-hosted and SaaS version both and they are running really well. ( different offering, different audience, win-win) I love the 'minimalist' approach to the design of KingSumo web app, but sadly, it's minimalistic feature wise as well for now. :( In the era of Vyper, Viral Loops etc, It is indeed needed to be able to have at least similar features if not anything unique or extra. Sumo is the bigger brand than any of these and hence people have a lot of expectations from anything that gets launched from this family. A feedback for landing page- It's a SaaS now, so 'Buy Now' doesn't really suit it anymore- https://cl.ly/pys5 Change it to 'Pricing' or 'Get Started' :) Also, the concern of Lifetime users are valid and I believe you should make a clear decision to either upgrade them all to Pro version ( recommended ) or deny all such requests ( bad marketing decision though ) but keeping it 'unclear' at this moment is in 'no way' good according to me. Best wishes.
noah kagan
@dmkthinks @niteshmanav SaaS has trade offs for sure. I like free just in general. No better price. We are making it clear and learning for this experience :) Fair point on the buy now =) Day 1...

I organized 4 giveaways, Vyper, Kingsumo, Upviral,Viralloops. The one and only PRO of Kingsumo was the one-time fee and no-recurring monthy fee. Less than 35% if subscribers opens my emails - and usually my CLICK rate is over 40%+.

Maybe it's worth it when you sell something for lifetime then you change the model. just like Kingsumo is doing now... Beside that, lots of freeloader crappy leads, lack of positioning. This entire model sucks, lots of hype and doesn't provide value.

Pros:

one-time fee was the only pro

Cons:

sold me as lifetime, changed model to saas + lots of crappy leads

noah kagan
We are reviewing pricing but wanted a web version as this was the major bottle neck for most people to use KingSumo.

I've just bought KingSumo WP Developer version (Lifetime) a few months ago, too bad it's now releasing SAAS version (Monthly), can you offer free upgrade or one-time upgrade cost (like AppSumo's other product - $39 or $49 for Lifetime) to all existing users? I hope you will seriously consider this suggestion. Thanks!
Stephen Campbell
Which was your recommendation? And how'd you feel about Vyper?
FamilyHistoryFanatics
@noahkagan I'm not concerned about the pricing. I did some test work and I'm not sure the entries are counted accurately which is why the growth desired on channels isn't want I expected. Who can I talk to about this?
Etienne Juneau

I bought the lifetime license 3 months back. Are they going to charge me monthly now to get the new features? Feels like a bad deal.

Pros:

Same as previous version (Wordpress plugin with 1-time payment)

Cons:

Now monthly payments (SaaS model)

noah kagan
The fully customizable and self-hosted version is 1-time payment and we made this version completely free. The paid version removes branding. We are evaluating the pricing. Thanks for the comment. The team worked super hard to make this for you.
Joe Tiew
No Etienne Juneau, I've read their FAQ, both versions will work separately. However I prefer SAAS version (easy to maintain), hopefully they will allow us to upgrade to SAAS version without monthly cost (one-time cost).

Hi Noah - I'm an AppSumo Briefcase user and I know KingSumo is included in the portfolio of products being offered under Briefcase. So, which KingSumo will we have access to? The old version or KingSumo 2.0?
noah kagan
@sanmallya Briefcase is still the lifetime wordpress plugin as this version is free so there's no point in it being in briefcase.

I love the concept and the look but I've given it a quick test and there may be a flaw. I don't think there is any verification to check that people have actually carried out the extra entry actions (liked, followed, shared on social for example). I've entered a competition, clicked all the options to share and like on social so I can get more entries. However I've not actually followed through and shared or liked anything and it has still counted the extra entries. It would be great to get verification of the actions to make sure people follow through and really help the giveaways gain more traction.

Pros:

Easy to setup Looks great

Cons:

No verification on "extra entry" actions
