Knocker transforms traditional cellular-based building buzzers into a voice-activated access system. Create voice pins through our smartphone app to unlock your building entrance. No extra hardware is needed, offering a modern, secure solution.
Hey everyone!
I'm excited to finally launch Knocker! This project is super close to my heart. I created Knocker because I love going for a run every morning, but I hate carrying my keys or phone. My building's buzzer system is like most old buildings in North America: you enter the unit number, it calls the resident's cell, and they can buzz you in. Thanks to Knocker, I've been running key and phone-free for weeks!
Knocker transforms traditional cellular-based building buzzers into a voice-activated access system. With our app, you can create voice pins to unlock your building door. It's perfect for so many situations:
* Forgot your key and your phone's dead: No worries!
* Taking a shower and your partner is at the door: (you haven't given them a key yet 🙄)
* Just locked out with no key or phone: Knocker's got your back!
* Airbnb hosts: create building pins for guests.
* Deliveries: generate one-time use pins for Amazon or Uber Eats.
Features:
* Create regular and one-time use pins.
* Receive notifications for each event.
* View a log of all door events.
All this for $2.99 per month – super affordable!
Curious how it works? Knocker replaces your phone number in the buzzer system with our number. When a visitor enters your unit number, Knocker handles the call. It asks the visitor, "Please say the pin, or wait." If the pin is correct, the door opens. If not, it asks again. No pin? It just calls your cell.
Thanks for being patient with the ugly UI – it's an MVP! I can't wait to hear your thoughts and feedback. Let me know how Knocker is changing the way you enter your home!
Cheers,
Atthar
Also, passers-by will be able to hear what code you use. Is this for apartment blocks or homes. What do you do about your apartment door, leave it unlocked? This is so full of holes. Believe me I work for a long established door entry system manufacturer and we have tried everything, but you cannot compromise security over convenience.
@christopher_odonnell Some valid points here. Thanks for bringing 'em up!
1) A passer-by might see the pin you enter on a pinpad entry system too. It’s just that changing or revoking a pin on a pinpad system is hard and complicated, while with Knocker, it's just a matter of a few taps on Knocker app (plus, the passer-by would need to know the unit number too, to be able to use the compromised voice pin).
2) Knocker is designed for building block entrance systems. For deliveries, the courier only needs the building door opened. Residents might use a similar keyless system for their apartment door.
3) I believe your experience, and I agree there are lots of holes. But I also believe that holes shouldn't prevent any maker from trying to make a product, no matter how imperfect the solution is.
Not sure about North America, but the rest of the world’s Entryphone systems are hardwired to fixed phones, they don’t call cells unless it’s from a gate. I’m pretty sure they aren’t that widespread in North America either. Plus you are reliant on the cell service being up, so could be locked out. I’m sure insurance companies will love this
@christopher_odonnell Hey Christopher, tbh, whether cellular buzzers are widespread or just a niche, there should still be products like Knocker for those systems. If the cell service goes down, those buzzers can't call the resident either, with or without Knocker. Knocker adds extra features to the existing cellular buzzers. Tho, at least in my experience, power outages are more common than cell network issues.
Wow, Atthar! This is such a clever solution! I can totally relate to the struggle of carrying keys on a run. The voice pin feature is a game changer for sure! I love that you’ve thought of different scenarios where Knocker comes in handy.
