Howdy! My name is Jake Boyles and I am the founder of DevsUp. For years I have been part of development communities on both Slack, Discord, and forums. The one thing I have noticed from all of these communities is the burn out, frustrations and lack of recognition that ultimately lead to their downfall. I have been yearning for a better way to facilitate them and reward those who give the most. This has lead me to create DevsUp. DevsUp is a paid community of developers from folks just starting out on their coding journey to those who are 20+ years and lead teams. The "secret sauce" for DevsUp is that half of all membership dues are put into a community bank. That community bank is then paid out to our top members each month. For every 100 members that join the community we elect one more "professional" to get promoted to share in the chest money that is paid out at the end of every month. The idea is that the members who provide the most will get rewarded for what they do and what they put into the community. It also gives people a reason to want to help others and provide support as they may be seen for what they do and get promoted. We will also have a demotion system in place for when professionals stop fulfilling their duties or decide to give someone else a chance.
