When I write, I often get stuck. It's a painful experience. With Lex, now I just type "+++" and AI will suggest what might come next. It can also generate headline ideas. The AI quality is mind-blowing!
@rrhoover ahh thank you!!
I write a weekly column so I'm a pretty heavy Google Docs user. The gripes I had sort of kept piling up, and meanwhile I was curious about writing with GPT-3 and other text completion models to see if it could help any in the process. I tried some of the existing tools based on GPT-3 and the AI was awesome, but nothing had the features I needed from Google Docs that would enable me to use them daily. So I created Lex!
Love all these AI assistant tools being launched to support the creative process... even better one that comes from someone running an email newsletter company!

Congratulations on the launch guys! đ Well it's amazing how AI can assist us to write faster and come up with great suggestions. Whatâs the secret behind AI pouring the right emotions like a skilled writer?
Best wishes for the future.
@nbashaw Wow!
I'm testing Lex this morning.
I copy-pasted the first two paragraphs of a post I wrote to see what Lex would do⊠To say that I'm impressed is an understatement đ€Ż
I haven't been excited like this about a product for a long, long time. If there is any way I can help, let me know.
I really enjoyed the demo. A lot of folks think they need a very polished marketing video to communicate about their products, but your loom video does such a nice job showing your passion for the project, and clearly demonstrates that you've been living and breathing in this space while building Lex. I'll be really excited to check it out when I get off the waitlist.
@alexander_nevedovsky Where is the red flag?
@nbashaw has successfully launched many things now and they're all great and interesting. Genuinely curious as a builder myself who is prone to launching a list ahead of products being ready for all on day one.
@nbashaw@shellen My comment never mentioned anything about Nathan as a builder. He's done great things. ProductHunt has the name "product" in it for a reason â so those who don't have a product didn't use it in the same way along with those who have. Launching a list is just like that, a red flag for me. That's subjective of course.
I've been looking for a tool that works this way! I've tried lots of AI writing tools but find myself wanting an experience that's closer to google docs - and well, I don't hate the name đ
Demo video aside truly impressed. Integrating this into my workflow and would love to see how much it speeds up my writing over the coming weeks and months
This is a really cool product! I'm also working on a similar writing-training tool using GPT-3, and I would love to keep in touch with this product to see where it goes!
+@nbashaw just got my hands on this - wow, am humbled the fact it knows law too! I suppose I shouldn't be surprised with a name like "lex" but holy shit this (or something like it) is eventually going to disrupt some lawyers.
First I tested the product by writing about securities laws. Here was my basic prompt:
In this article we are going to focus on the two laws that matter once you know youâre raising a fund and you, as a fund manager, will be holding or investing in securities.
This is the (correct) response I received:
These laws are the Investment Company Act of 1940 (the âInvestment Company Actâ) and the Investment Advisers Act of 1940 (the âInvestment Advisers Actâ).
đ€Ż, it knows venture capital fund law! That took me many years to learn and study.
It also wrote up a nice little paragraph about the two laws:
**The Investment Company Act of 1940** is a set of regulations that govern the organization and operation of investment companies. An âinvestment companyâ is defined by the Investment Company Act as any company (1) engaged primarily, or (2) that has as a significant purpose, the business of investing, reinvesting, or trading in securities.
...
The law also covers companies that advise investors, such as investment advisers, and companies that engage in certain other activities, such as broker-dealers and underwriters.
**The Investment Advisers Act of 1940** is a set of regulations that govern the organization and operation of investment advisers.
An âinvestment adviserâ is defined by the Investment Advisers Act as any person or firm that, for compensation, engages in the business of advising others, either directly or through publications or writings, as to the value of securities or as to the advisability of investing in, purchasing, or selling securities.
...
Pretty cool, going to have fun with this.
Hate to point this out but there's a writing focused dating app by the same name https://thisislex.app/
I do like your UX approach though, seems quick and simple.
Interesting Nathan. So many agencies use Google Docs as a fast workaround. GPT-3 is mind-blowing so here's hoping that Google will keep the lights on :)
@nok_moe good question! Iâve used most of them and havenât found them to be a great environment to actually write in. I always end up going back to Google docs. But itâs a big pain to keep switching back and forth!
