Hey Product Hunters,
Me and the guys and @lickability are thrilled to announce that we recently acquired Bugshot from @marcoarment and completely rewrote and redesigned it as Pinpoint. Let me know what you think and I’d be happy to answer your questions.
Very nice, I downloaded and did some markups to try it out. As has been mentioned previously, an undo would be nice as well as a way to move the annotation (sometimes I can't draw a correct box exactly where u want it).
As a developer I really like what you did in the 'About' dialog. Those people deserve being called out like that and few apps do what you've done.
Regarding the IAP, how did you arrive at that price? I'll admit that I was ready to pull the trigger and purchase the colors until I saw the $5 US price tag. Now, I'm not cheap, I believe people should charge whatever they want, and I would like the average cost of apps to go up a bit. To me, that charge is a bit high for the return. Are you looking to recoup some of the dev costs by raising the IAP cost? Are you concerned that customers will use just use other, less expensive alternatives?
Good job. i just could not stand skitch anymore and bugshot was a great start. please add an undo button and change thickness. i don t think new colours should be an IAP option though
Hey @ourielohayon, thanks for the feedback and the feature requests. I’m curious to know if not the colors as in app purchases, then what do you think the revenue model for this app should be?
@mb@ourielohayon Hey Matthew, Here's a couple of ideas:
- Organizing and managing screenshots -- making it easier to manage screenshots by creating a separate album for them. They tend to get mixed up with all of the other photos on our devices. I've paid for a couple of apps like this before.
- Making easier and quicker to report the bugs through integrations with bug reporting tools (if you're going after that market)
Here’s the app description for those who are curious but unable or unwilling to click through:
You take screenshots. But sometimes you need to mark them up a bit before sharing them with your friends (or enemies). You know: point stuff out, blur out your business, jot down thoughts. Pinpoint’s got you covered.
With Pinpoint you can:
• See all the screenshots you’ve ever taken
• Draw arrows and boxes to pinpoint the important parts or the stuff that’s weird
• Write text to explain what you’re thinking
• Blur out your sensitive info to keep it from prying eyes
• Share your finished screenshot masterpiece with literally anyone
• Ditch the original screenshot so it’s not clogging up your photo library
• Get new colors so that you’re cooler than your friends
That’s it. It’s super simple by design. One thing: mark up your screenshots.
@mb Simple and useful product! We have been doing product testing on various mobile phones and often need to take a screenshot before filing bugs. Also see a personal use case for social sharing.
@syedz@mb for testing purpose you might also look at bugclipper.com - does screenshot annotation along with screen recordings. Would love to hear your views.
@syedz Thanks a lot. We really loved Bugshot and were devastated when it vanished. We’re so glad it’s back and that people are already finding it useful.
Heard about Bugshot a while ago as all the screenshot annotation tools were overly complicated and / or integrated with things I never needed or used.
Stoked about Pinpoint, nice and simple and gets the job done. Great work. Though I did find myself searching for an undo on occasion.
At first, my thoughts were that this is wayyy to similar to Bugshot, but then realized @mb was behind it and that he probably worked something out with Marco. Loved Bugshot when it was around, and I'm so excited to have it back with eve more care applied. Thanks!
Thank goodness. High hopes for this. I screenshot A LOT. And the workflow right now is broken and context gets lost b/c the image and the text about it is separated. This could be huge. Downloading now. Good use case for the PH SMS thing. Nice work, hope this lives up to the promise.
Very nice! I love the simplicity. I was going to make some suggestions, but I found you had already done them--I should have read the cheat sheet to start. I'll use this often. I'd love to know how you decided to acquire Bugshot, and if you rewrote and redesigned it, why didn't you just make a competing product?
Great app, @lickability!
@bjamut We wanted to resurrect Bugshot and give all the existing users a brand new experience. Marco didn’t charge us for the app, so why not? http://www.marco.org/2015/05/28/...
Never experienced Bugshot so I've got a very basic question: What does Pinpoint offer over Skitch? While Skitch isn't the BEST, it's certainly quite good, and very much so...free. Would love to know some thoughts!
@wilwired Great question. Pinpoint does a lot less, a lot faster, and more reliably. Skitch is a bit of a hit or miss experience these days. And it certainly doesn’t work well at all with iCloud Photo Library.
@mb Thanks for the reply! And you are very much so right. Hit or miss. Really need an undo button though, asap. Misplacing an arrow makes you have to start over again essentially..
I think this is a much needed tool, but I still haven't found one that is very easy to use, and that includes this tool. Is there are preferred place for feedback? I don't want to clutter up your ProductHunt post :)
@thathoo It’s a much faster, more focused product with a few novel features that are great for screenshots that Skitch doesn’t have. That’s it, super simple.
