Been loving playing around with this! Pretty straight forward concept, like Instagram for 360 photos. Tip: you don't have to always look crazy moving your phone around, you can scroll too

@bentossel hey Ben! Thanks for hunting us, super stoked to share Lookabout! No 360° camera or extra hardware needed (sorry had a bug w/ Product Hunt mobile app and the original comment disappeared)

Love it! 360 photos are 100x better than the normal and this makes it so easy to capture them. What's next on the roadmap? (after android)
Jack O'Grady
@kar2905 360 filters + editing, panorama upload support, more sharing features, and some cool new discover features 🎉

Hi I'm a beginner in smartphone intagramming, this looks super cool and it has potential to dominate both IOS and Android market as its just an app to capture 360° Photos that is actually a big deal! Wanna get notified about the Android version till then can I use this app on IPad or IPod? Can't wait to make amazing 360 picture with this app! Cheers.
Jack O'Grady
@sagar868 Hey Sagar, we've left iPad out of the mix for now to focus on iterations with iPhone screen sizes. Unfortunately iPods don't have cameras. We're working on the Android version based on how much interest we've had today!
Sagar Honakeri
@jack_ogrady Yes already signed up to get notified for the android version, from the link you put above. Thanks! And what do you mean by IPods don't have cameras? 🤔

Good clarity on images and will be cool to see once they have videos supported. I like emojis but curious to why that's required?
Quinn Ellis
@3amjosh Thank you! Yes I am excited to get 360 videos into the feeds as well. Glad you like the emojis. We have some cool feature ideas coming soon involving them!

Confused for a quick sec by the title. Thought it was Instagram adding 360 view capability (which maybe they already have as FB does). Cool though. This could be a lot of fun having 360 pics in a feed. Especially love not needing extra hardware.

Looks nice, although I can't play with it as there's no Android app. The only thing is I question - what happens when Instagram add 360 support? Will this app just fade away?
Jack O'Grady
@benbristowuk hey Ben, very fair question! Instagram will support 360 just like Facebook supports normal photos, they're there but there's a big enough audience (or will be a big enough audience) that just wants to see 360 pics, not normal pics. So instead of sifting through a ton of normal pics on Instagram to find a few 360 ones, you can just go to Lookabout and know that everything is awesome, immersive 360 😄 what's your take?

just downloaded.. pretty cool UX.. well done... looking forward to seeing all the improvements and new features. Best

This is great. 👍🏼 I was working on something similar - It got lost in bigger goals. This makes a lot of sense because you've a great creation tool for amateurs and a upload button for 360 professionals with cameras/rigs. You've got great UX all over. Absolutely love the concept of Dart for creation. Also 5s to instagram - that'll get you a lot of new users. 😎

Cool concept! Installed it on my iPhone 5s and it is indeed fun! However in a matter of seconds my phone heated up so much, I couldn't hold it in my hands.
Jack O'Grady
@kilinandi We've noticed that the computing power of an iPhone 6 seems to be the minimum requirement for an enjoyable experience. The 360 views take up a lot more power that just wasn't anticipated from phone makers 4 years or so ago (shoutout Moore's Law) -- my iPhone 6 still gets a little slow! Awesome experience on 7, 6s, 6, and 5se, and of course all the future phones w/ more CPU power :) Hope you can still find time to enjoy Lookabout, and thanks for the interest! Always working on optimizing the experience & performance
Andrea Kilin
@jack_ogrady thanks for clarifying! Fingers crossed and looking forward to this sm channel becoming the next big thing 😍😎

I helped build UTeleport (https://play.google.com/store/ap...), a very similar app, last year. BIggest lesson was that Instagram and Facebook are going to be the "Instagram for 360 photos" - the barrier to content creation was pretty high as well due to the requirement of dedicated 360 cameras. We even hooked into the OSC APIs to control the cameras directly inside our app - making it easier to go from capture to publish in one step...
Jack O'Grady
@alamgir_mand Thanks for passing this along w/ your learnings!

Can I control the up/down with touch rather than tilting the phone?

Cool app, what about 360 video ?
Jack O'Grady
@etienne_l Coming soon!! I'm guessing you've got a lot of V360 edits ready? :)
Chen Zeev
Why is it mandatory to add a caption AND emoji?
Jack O'Grady
@bulleitandcoke have some cool features coming with the emojis in the future 👀 they're also a fun add to the post!
Jovis Joseph Aloor
Android always get a stepchild treatment among makers.. I just don't understand why :|
Chen Zeev
@jovisjoseph probably because the US market is the most sought after. And even though Android has a larger base WW, in the US the iPhone dominates. A small unfunded startup has to start with 1 app usually, unless there's a VERY strong reason to launch on both platforms (messaging app for example)
Jack O'Grady
@jovisjoseph hey Jovis, it comes down to validation of the business model in startup phase. It's much easier and faster for us to build, test, and iterate when we're only working on one platform. Then, once we hit product market fit we'll be able to expand to the android segment. Hope you understand!
Jack O'Grady
Overwhelmed by the support you guys!! Stay tuned for more 🎉
