@armstrong Awesome ๐ We want to help create a world where people spend their working time without distraction, focused only on the task at hand. This is step 1, much more coming soon.
๐ Hey Product Hunt
6 months ago we launched the first version of Lowdown โ a tool to autogenerate newsletters for Slack communities. Weโve now sent more than 80,000 emails to 14,000 people, across 300 organisations. ๐
Since then Lowdown has improved in every way and evolved into a tool that highlights the most valuable posts shared in all kinds of teams on Slack. Weโre thrilled to launch version 2 today.
Hereโs how the new-and-improved product works:
๐ Identify content automatically
You identify channels and keywords for Lowdown to analyse and our Slackbot will automatically suggest great posts to highlight in your email digests.
๐ฃ Instantly add any Slack post
React to any post in your Slack with ๐ฃ to add it to an email.
๐ Set a schedule that suits
Select a day, time and frequency for your email digest. Lowdown then creates and sends automatically.
โ Easily subscribe your members
Add your Slack members as recipients in one-click or use our Slackbot to collect their permission.

Thanks guys ๐
Lowdown is really interesting! I hate being distracted by slack, with lowdown I feel I can ignore the noise and know that I'll get a nice email digest of the important stuff. Great product!
We've been using Lowdown with a 150 person Slack. Love receiving the Lowdown from Lowdown in my inbox it highlights the stuff that got buried or forgotten about. Really pleased to see the schedule feature and to nudge members. Congratulations + can't wait for the personal digest.
This is just the thing I need. I've been feeling so overwhelmed with Slack channels that I've felt like ditching them all together. This is a great idea and I will surely be using it :) Well done!
@himynameisciara That's good to hear Ciara. Our forthcoming release should help even more by letting you set up personal digests for every Slack that installs Lowdown!
@kylegawley Good luck building your community Kyle! We've found Lowdown can really help increase engagement as it helps bring people back who don't have time to check Slack every day. One of users saw their weekly active users increase from 200 to 340 after a month of weekly emails from Lowdown.
Hey folks. I'm Phil, the CTO here at Lowdown. I really hope you all like what we've built so far! If you have any questions just let me know - happy to answer any questions.
This version of Lowdown is the second big release, with lots of new features based on the feedback we've received. Check out what's new in Steven's (our CEO) comment above https://www.producthunt.com/post....
And we're only getting started... One of the biggest pain points that our users tell us about is getting too many notifications from Slack and therefore finding it hard to focus on real work. We plan to help alleviate this problem with our next iteration of Lowdown - sign up for early access: https://getlowdown.com/slack-dig...
I seen the first version of Lowdown and thought it was super interesting, and I've been meaning to get a trial for my team for a while โ but with the forced shift to fully remote due to the global pandemic, the amount of Slack activity in our place has increased tenfold.
More channels, more stuff to check, more important info being posted into channels I'm not always in (or even want to be in) I'm genuinely concerned i'm going to miss stuff day to day now.
Gonna give this a go. Nice work @shylands@philmclure
@itsdavidhughes Thanks David, hopefully we can get you set up soon! Lowdown is perfect for surfacing information in channels you can't spare the time to read. For example your design team might get a digest of key dev activity. That means you don't have to read all the back-and-forth chat and just get the highlights.
This is such an amazing product! So many of the slack communities I belong to could use this. So many slack workspaces are used as communities and keeping on top of what's going on is really overwhelming. Lowdown solves that problem with a customizable newsletter from each community!
I hope more of the workspaces I'm a member of start using this!
Lowdown has been active on a Slack channel I've been on for a few months now. I think one of the great things about this is that the content of the newsletters are tailored to be relevant to you from that channel. I don't normally read many newsletters, but this isn't the case with Lowdown. The digests get to the point quick and they magically know exactly what you want to read. Loving the product so far and looking forward watching it evolve in the future!
Love using the current version -the highlights are a perfect recap of the week, especially when so much has went on and I've overlooked something. Can't wait for version 2!
No one has time to read every thread and eventually you stop reading slack because you canโt keep up. This isnโt good for any organisation who uses slack! This is a brilliant idea to keep up to speed with the important stuff so you donโt lose track of what matters. Itโs a no brainer!
@belfastcookbook Nor should anyone feel the need to read every thread but it can feel like you should especially as an employee of a company. We hope Lowdown can help.
