This is such a no-brainer, the lowdown email is one of the few emails I get that SAVES me time
Steven Hylands
@armstrong Awesome ๐Ÿ™Œ We want to help create a world where people spend their working time without distraction, focused only on the task at hand. This is step 1, much more coming soon.
Steven Hylands
๐Ÿ‘‹ Hey Product Hunt 6 months ago we launched the first version of Lowdown โ€” a tool to autogenerate newsletters for Slack communities. Weโ€™ve now sent more than 80,000 emails to 14,000 people, across 300 organisations. ๐ŸŽ‰ Since then Lowdown has improved in every way and evolved into a tool that highlights the most valuable posts shared in all kinds of teams on Slack. Weโ€™re thrilled to launch version 2 today. Hereโ€™s how the new-and-improved product works: ๐Ÿ‘ Identify content automatically You identify channels and keywords for Lowdown to analyse and our Slackbot will automatically suggest great posts to highlight in your email digests. ๐Ÿ“ฃ Instantly add any Slack post React to any post in your Slack with ๐Ÿ“ฃ to add it to an email. ๐Ÿ“… Set a schedule that suits Select a day, time and frequency for your email digest. Lowdown then creates and sends automatically. โœ… Easily subscribe your members Add your Slack members as recipients in one-click or use our Slackbot to collect their permission. --- To celebrate our launch day we're offering Product Hunters a special discount. Enter the coupon PRODUCTHUNT to get 50% off for 6 months. Weโ€™re also working on our next release which will let you receive a personal digest of highlights from channels you care about. Lowdown is really interesting! I hate being distracted by slack, with lowdown I feel I can ignore the noise and know that I'll get a nice email digest of the important stuff. Great product!
Steven Hylands
@peteyhawkins Good to hear Pete ๐Ÿ˜ƒ Much more to come to help solve the distracting aspects of Slack ๐Ÿ’ช
Chris McClelland
We've been using Lowdown with a 150 person Slack. Love receiving the Lowdown from Lowdown in my inbox it highlights the stuff that got buried or forgotten about. Really pleased to see the schedule feature and to nudge members. Congratulations + can't wait for the personal digest.
Steven Hylands
@chrismcclelland We've loved having you onboard Chris thank you!
Ciara Bryans
This is just the thing I need. I've been feeling so overwhelmed with Slack channels that I've felt like ditching them all together. This is a great idea and I will surely be using it :) Well done!
Steven Hylands
@himynameisciara That's good to hear Ciara. Our forthcoming release should help even more by letting you set up personal digests for every Slack that installs Lowdown!
Kyle Gawley
Looks great! I've been building up a Slack community (slowly) and excited to try this once I get a bit more traction. Love the video too :-)
Steven Hylands
@kylegawley Good luck building your community Kyle! We've found Lowdown can really help increase engagement as it helps bring people back who don't have time to check Slack every day. One of users saw their weekly active users increase from 200 to 340 after a month of weekly emails from Lowdown.
Phil McClure
Hey folks. I'm Phil, the CTO here at Lowdown. I really hope you all like what we've built so far! If you have any questions just let me know - happy to answer any questions. This version of Lowdown is the second big release, with lots of new features based on the feedback we've received. Check out what's new in Steven's (our CEO) comment above https://www.producthunt.com/post.... And we're only getting started... One of the biggest pain points that our users tell us about is getting too many notifications from Slack and therefore finding it hard to focus on real work. We plan to help alleviate this problem with our next iteration of Lowdown - sign up for early access: https://getlowdown.com/slack-dig...

I seen the first version of Lowdown and thought it was super interesting, and I've been meaning to get a trial for my team for a while โ€” but with the forced shift to fully remote due to the global pandemic, the amount of Slack activity in our place has increased tenfold. More channels, more stuff to check, more important info being posted into channels I'm not always in (or even want to be in) I'm genuinely concerned i'm going to miss stuff day to day now. Gonna give this a go. Nice work @shylands @philmclure
Steven Hylands
@itsdavidhughes Thanks David, hopefully we can get you set up soon! Lowdown is perfect for surfacing information in channels you can't spare the time to read. For example your design team might get a digest of key dev activity. That means you don't have to read all the back-and-forth chat and just get the highlights.

50% off for 6 months with coupon PRODUCTHUNT Unreal. <3
Steven Hylands
@theshawe Yep! That's just $19.50 per month to send to up to 2,000 Slack members ๐Ÿ˜
Paul McBride
This is such an amazing product! So many of the slack communities I belong to could use this. So many slack workspaces are used as communities and keeping on top of what's going on is really overwhelming. Lowdown solves that problem with a customizable newsletter from each community! I hope more of the workspaces I'm a member of start using this!
Steven Hylands
@thepaulmcbride Thanks Paul, part of our challenge is getting as many Slack's as possible to install Lowdown so busy people like you can keep up!
Gavin Shields
Lowdown saves me loads of time and keeps me in touch with all the important info from our Slack channels. Can't recommend it enough.
Steven Hylands
@gavinshields Thanks Gavin, glad to hear you're getting value from it!
Scott Wylie
love this, cant recommend the product and the team behind this highly enough!!!
Steven Hylands
@scott_wylie1 Thanks Scott appreciate it.
Anna Grigoryan
Congrats, this is awesome! You did it pretty fast after your indiehackers post! I'll share this tool on my newsletter for communities!
John Mcelhone
Lowdown has been active on a Slack channel I've been on for a few months now. I think one of the great things about this is that the content of the newsletters are tailored to be relevant to you from that channel. I don't normally read many newsletters, but this isn't the case with Lowdown. The digests get to the point quick and they magically know exactly what you want to read. Loving the product so far and looking forward watching it evolve in the future!
Steven Hylands
@john_mcelhone1 Really appreciate this John. Good to hear you've found the content produced useful too!
Andy Brownlie
Loving how integrated Slack + Lowdown is for adding new keywords, channels, etc. How easy is it to update these preferences?
Steven Hylands
@_thunk_ Thanks Andy, you can change them at anytime from our web app. In the future we'll make it possible by chatting to our bot in Slack :)
Karen McDonald
Love using the current version -the highlights are a perfect recap of the week, especially when so much has went on and I've overlooked something. Can't wait for version 2!
Steven Hylands
@karen_mcdonald1 Cheers Karen. Yeah so much of what is shared can be easily missed. Lowdown is perfect to bring more attention to these posts.
belfastcookbookclub
No one has time to read every thread and eventually you stop reading slack because you canโ€™t keep up. This isnโ€™t good for any organisation who uses slack! This is a brilliant idea to keep up to speed with the important stuff so you donโ€™t lose track of what matters. Itโ€™s a no brainer!
Steven Hylands
@belfastcookbook Nor should anyone feel the need to read every thread but it can feel like you should especially as an employee of a company. We hope Lowdown can help.
Alex Price
Such a great tool for keeping everyone in the loop without the pressure of being online everyday. 50% for 6 months is a steal too!
Steven Hylands
@alex_price2 Thanks Alex, that's our ultimate goal - to reduce the attention sucking reality of workplace chat.
Phil Ervine
Great way to make sure you don't miss important messages in slack - it can be a noisy place and this helps our team.
Elizabeth Gilligan
Makes slack so easy to manage !!!!
