Macro is a customizable meeting interface built on top of Zoom, reimagined for collaboration and inclusive conversations. Same Zoom links, same people, same meetings - but now so much better.
I'm honestly surprised this isn't #1 today - It's one of the best products I've used in a long time! Where so many players are looking reinvent the likes of Zoom/Slack/Chat/Video apps, I think the winners are products like Macro that make the existing winners in these spaces better. Nice work @aharathi and team!
Great app, great vision! Is that possible to integrate Whereby instead of Zoom?
I know Zoom is very popular but there are great alternatives out there.
Kudos for your good work and stay safe!
@aharathi Thanks Ankith, hope you will take in consideration Whereby in your future integrations. This visioconferencing solution is so great, I use it with my partners and clients. It will be a level up and game changing.
Ah, this looks interesting. Can you tell me a bit more how this is free? Is this something still in active development and later will require a monthly fee?
@leo_at_zapier Great question! We're very early and in active development, so prioritizing learning over monetization.
There will always be a free version of Macro - the plan is to eventually add paid 'pro' features for individuals / teams!
DO NOT TRY THIS. I am on MacOS and here is my feedback.
1. My fan started blowing as soon as I started zoom call. I have an extremely powerful mac.
2. During the call, I just could not share my screen. I had given all permissions to the app. But it hijacked my zoom and I had to uninstall Macro in middle of the call to make this happen.
Not cool.
hey @aakash_barot, sorry to hear about that! Our app uses a wrapper on Zoom's native SDK and in our testing we show statistically similar CPU / memory utilization to the native Zoom client. For the screen share portion - did the host in the meeting have 'allow attendees to screen share' enabled?
@aharathi It looks like a good product. Just that it was an embarrassing experience with the client and hence I ranted. I will download and try it again on weekend to ensure everything works as expected.
@aakash_barot No worries at all, I completely understand. Meetings are important - especially with external clients. I'll check through the logs to make sure nothing out the ordinary happened and get to the bottom of this!
I've been using Macro for the last month now and it has added an amazing layer for note-taking and awareness of who is speaking throughout the meeting. No longer is my desktop cluttered with text-edit documents!
So excited to see this team continue to build out awesome feature sets. The founding team cares deeply about the UX and it shines through with how polished this launch is. Great job, team!! Looking forward to all future updates!
Would highly recommend anyone reading through these comments to sign up and check it out =)
Haven't got around to testing this out. But just by the video & description two things stand out... 1) Airtime Map! I'll probably be the one talking the most on a call, so this keeps me in check! and 2) Outcome Automation with Google Doc. Wishing you guys all the best!
๐๐ธHey Product Hunt, I'm Ankith - one of the makers of Macro!
We've been building Macro for the past ~6 months and are so excited to finally share it with you all today. We used the relatively new Zoom SDK as Macro's foundation, which allows us to wrap the entire Zoom experience within our app and completely control + customize the meeting UI without having to worry about audio/video infrastructure or scalability.
We're launching Macro today with a few features that re-imagine the meeting interface for collaboration and inclusive conversations:
๐ Launch from the same Zoom links - any Zoom link you click will launch you right into the same meeting, now through Macro
๐บ๏ธ Airtime map - visualize in realtime the distribution of speaking time across participants in a meeting
๐จ Custom views - change Zoom's video UI to adapt to the style of meeting your having
๐ Outcomes - takes notes right in the meeting interface, categorized with shortcuts. Macro auto-creates a Google Doc in your Gdrive for every meeting and syncs all your notes in realtime to this doc thats instantly sharable with your team. More integrations coming soon!
You can use Macro yourself, with your team still on normal Zoom - they don't need to switch. Best of all, Macro is free and available to everyone on macOS for download today. No waitlist. https://macro.io
We're a small team of four, recently five, engineers who would love to hear your feedback on how we can make Macro, and your meetings, better. Thanks for reading! โ๏ธ
great work! This is awesome, I just downloaded and started playing around. The native sync to google docs is AWESOME! Great stuff! Ankith are there any thoughts in being able to use this as a tool to have 1 on 1 meetings through a slack command or instant video calls?
Wonderful what you guys are building. Each one of my design workshops during the pandemic had a task for students to redesign Zoom for their use-case (classroom, family catchup) etc. Such cool ideas I've seen. I'm sure you're working on more formats other than discussion and collaboration. It would be interesting to see how you bring in AI capabilities to help with action items, questions for different formats of meetings.
Hey @ankith_harathi, I just downloaded the app on MacOS and went through all the steps (preferences, etc) and now when I launch the app it just crashes :( Any ideas why? Very excited to try.
@pascal_brisset sorry about that and thanks for reaching out with this. It looks like there is an edge case bug with some Google Calendar API events that I was able to fix just now. We will be pushing an update out shortly!
@rjkeck2 Wow! Thanks for the prompt reply and fix. I'll keep you posted on the outcome and would be happy to share some screen shots or system logs if need be :)
@pascal_brisset Alright, we just release a patch that should fix the issue you were having. Could you download again from our site and try it now? Thanks again for being patient with us, we're still actively in development!
Totally addicted to the air-time feature! Also, the 5 minute meeting countdown clock is a small feature but something I'd been looking for - really helpful.
Hey @aharathi, congratulations on your seed round! I'm an EdTech founder here in Boston (youragora.com) and Macro seems like a helpful, dynamic Zoom upgrade. Our clients are universities and language schools; many of them have strict privacy standards they must adhere to (pertaining to vendors and software).
A few questions:
1. Does Macro track user activity (such as applications used) during calls?
2. Are videos/images taken during calls of user activity at any time?
3. Is Google Calendar information collected?
4. In section 1>Contact Information, what is "and other relevant information necessary for us to offer the Service."?
We'd love to give Macro a try and want to ensure our clients conform to their privacy/data security standards. Thank you, Jake
@jake_kayser Great questions!
1. Macro tracks *no* user activity or applications used during calls outside of the Macro app
2. No videos or images are taken of user activity during any time. If you're screen sharing with Macro, your screen is shown to other attendees, but that information isn't stored anywhere (unless you have Zoom recordings turned on - in which case its stored on Zoom!)
3. Nope! We only query calendars in real time, never stored on our servers, to display your upcoming calendar events in our home screen with quick 'Launch' links to take you right into your meetings!
4. Aside from your Zoom information, we collect the macOS version number
What's awesome about the Zoom SDK is that we don't touch any of the raw data feeds (audio/video/screenshare/etc) that passes right from Zoom to you, we just get to put a pretty interface around it ๐จ Hope that answers your questions!
Congrats on the launch! As an executive coach for leadership teams, I am super excited for this product, especially the airtime indicator feature. This will make life easier!
I have lots of ideas for how to further improve online teamwork through a better UI. Feel free to reach out
