Hi I’m Mike, cofounder at Magicflow! We built Magicflow out of a deep frustration with those days where you don’t seem to get anything done. Why do you feel scattered and disjointed some days, but superhuman on others? This problem affects everybody who is trying to do meaningful work in the world, from the procrastinating PhD student to the founder wrestling their startup to Product Market Fit, to the small business owner trying to make their way in the world. Our mission is to make every knowledge worker do 20% more deep work, and speed up technological progress and economic growth in the process! Magicflow helps you answer all your questions about your productivity. How much deep work do you actually do? What stops you from doing deep work? Figuring this out helps you get more done in less time. We track how you spend your time on your laptop, and categorise it into different contexts, like Coding, Commucation, Marketing or Social Media. We then track the number of times you switch contexts, between for example Coding and Slack, and how long your sessions are. This helps you know how you’re doing so you can adjust your habits, like being intentional about your context switches, and doing longer work sessions to give you more time to get in flow. I’d love for you to try it out, and see if you can hit Magic flow in your first session. Everyone can try the product for free, and we’re doing a 40% discount for Product Hunt users, just use the code PRODUCTHUNTIVITY I love the Product Hunt community, a community of dreamers looking towards the future at a better world ahead. I'm so glad to be a part of it, and build the future with you all! Let's go!

@michaeljelly do users get to manually, or perhaps even retrospectively, decide which apps and time represent low-productivity for them (like not just because they've started a focus session)? Some times discussing a topic with a team in Slack can be a very productive experience, whereas someone could spend hours achieving nothing impactful in their code editor. I like the idea of tracking context switching, but that's also very difficult to automatically interpret that as good or bad. For example, often I've worked places where there's been a release or something and I've been in back and forth conversation between product and development whilst we iron out some bugs, and both parties are jumping between code, slack, a browser etc... but it's super productive (even if it's not enjoyable haha).
Michael Jelly
@codefreechris Totally agree! We will definitely add more user-driven flows to retrospectively categorise things! Same for the context-switching, at the moment it's only automatic but we've already heard from people that they'd like to define their own contexts. It's in the pipeline!
Sam Abrika
@michaeljelly Does it automatically all "distraction websites" like social media, shopping, click baity ads?
Michael Jelly
@samabrika1 Yup, tracks them all! We aren't doing blocking yet but I'm sure we'll get there eventually!

@michaeljelly Congratulations on the launch! Magicflow could be addressing the need-gap: 'Focus drift' posted on my problem validation forum - https://needgap.com/problems/93-... . If it does, You're welcomed to explain how Magicflow addresses that problem so those who need it can find it easily.

Can't wait to start using this!!! Also love the integration with sleep data - definitely feel that is a hidden blocker to my productivity ("countered" by lots of caffeine top-ups).
Michael Jelly
@james_lloyd3 Totally agree - it's all about getting the full picture and that's what we're trying to do here! Ironically I'm here at 4am drinking redbull! hahaha

I use Pomodoro timers but I still get distracted. Looking forward to using this like I do my apple watch to track metrics that way I improve and stop getting distracted. Is there a watch app coming?
Michael Jelly
@takomborerwam Fantastic! Excited to see you in the app! There will be a watch app within the next year, our primary focus is making the app awesome and expanding the number of platforms we're on. But watch this space! I'd love to hear how the pomodoro timers go for you, let me know!

What I love about Magicflow is that it's actionable. Most productivity apps just show you if you or aren't productive. Magicflow goes one stup further and tells you what to do to become productive.
Michael Jelly
@mlejva Exactly why we built it! We want to go beyond just tracking what you already know!
Arthur
Awesome idea and product! I assume the app collects a lot of user data, could you talk a bit on how you handle user privacy?
Michael Jelly
@artfloriani Sure thing! We have a whole page on it during our onboarding. The main thing is that by default, all titles and URLs are kept locally and never leave your device, because we do all our categorisation on the device. This is a huge huge win for privacy. Only the high-level categories of things your doing go to our server, so we can give you insights into how they shape your day. Beyond that we store the data double-encrypted in the cloud, once by the database, once by us. Because we're a subscription company, we already have revenue so we will never need to, and promise never to, monetise your data. Hope that helps!
Anson Kao
Been using for a few months and the team is very responsive to feedback - big fan!
Michael Jelly
@anson_kao Thanks Anson, you've been such a great user and tester and all round human! Excited to grow Magicflow with your feedback!
