Hi Product Hunters! 👋 We're super excited to share this early version of Mailflow with you guys!
You may have tried to replace email with dozens of different tools, only to find that your clients keep emailing you anyway... So you're back to email.
Current collaboration tools seem made for internal collaboration or sales teams. And there are few clients that will bother learning a new tool just to work with you.
Mailflow is an email-first productivity tool that's made specifically for working with clients.
The cool thing about Mailflow is that it helps you stay organized without depending on other people working in the same tool as you. And you can even use it to get on top of email threads that are already out of hand.
This first release provides you with a lightweight but powerful way to organize projects directly from Gmail. We have integrated personal tasks, notes, and projects in a way that's intuitive to use, and that fits your existing workflow.
Our goal is to rid you of all repetitive busywork, and we're working on more powerful features that will save you hours every week.
If you're a freelancer or working in an agency, we would be forever grateful to hear what works and doesn't work for you 😀
@henningsillerud Congrats on your launch. Mailflow looks pretty good and super excited to try it out.
One quick question on the pricing as you have kept it free until further notice. Any idea when this will be made a commercial one & what is the ask you have in mind.
@devaonbreaches Thanks, good question! We haven't chiselled out the specifics of our pricing yet, but we're aiming to make it affordable for freelancers and smaller businesses. We aim to add a payment option within the next few months together with some new features.
Right now we are considering two freemium models. One of them is the classic freemium model where you get to use most of the features for free and then have to upgrade to access the most time saving features. The other approach is to offer everything for free like Notion.so does, and then limit the amount of "blocks" you can have. It will be sort of like a free trial, but with an activity limit instead of a time limit, and you'll be able to delete stuff you don't need anymore in order to extend your trial.
That being said, we're very open for suggestions and feedback on the pricing aswell :)
Love it, using it already! @henningsillerud quick question: is there a way to show/hide the right panel that Mailflow brings to gmail? It reduces the reading size of my screen on gmail, would love to have a shortcut/button to hide it.
@seva_mouler Nice! You should be able to show/hide the sidebar when clicking the icon in the sidebar, and it should remember your choice until next time. Adding a shortcut key is a great suggestion! 👍
Looks really good.
Haven’t tried it yet....
But thinking about it.
Always a little apprehensive when using something like this.
And Privacy is always a hurdle.
My experience with all the “other-similar” extensions is it slows Gmail down and takes a toll on chrome....
@david_diamond Thank you David!
Privacy:
Privacy is a top priority for us. Our company are based in Norway, and we have to be GDPR compliant by law – something which I can assure you we are. You can see exactly what kind of data we store in our privacy policy. I should mention that we never store the body of your emails unless you actively add it using one of our features.
Speed:
Completely agree! We should probably have mentioned this somewhere, but we absolutely hate it when our tools slows us down! We have done everything in our power to minimize load-times and keep Mailflow fast.
I would appreciate if you give it a shot and send an email to me personally if it's not fast enough. henning@getmailflow.com
Genius and beautiful solution to a very real problem! Too bad it’s only compatible with Gmail... Any plans to make a dedicated email client that supports regular IMAP and SMTP?
@anna_0x Thank you! We love the thought of a dedicated email client! But that would take a team of 10 people and two years. We are only two people as for now, so we have to keep a thight focus :)
@francoolaami Sorry :( We have not forgotten all you Firefox users! We are just two extremely dedicated nerds bootstrapping this thing at the moment, and we simply haven't had enough hands to make it available for other browsers. But this is definetively something that we need to do. We actually tried to create Mailflow as an addon first, but Gmail addons are extremely limited, and we got nowhere near the smooth workflow we wanted to create.
@henningsillerud gotcha, i kinda new that gmail addon is super hard, only power machines like trello can do it. For forefox, i will wait . Thanks for the reply !
I like the idea and UX! It feels natural addition to Gmail. In some point I hate having so much google chrome extensions, in the other hand yours is definitely worth it. But during the first launch it closed all my opened tabs.
@alisa_smelkova Glad to hear you find it worth it! Could you send me an email at henning@getmailflow.com regarding the bug you experienced? We would like to get to the bottom of that.
@felipe_otalora Thanks! A more collaborative experience is on the roadmap, but it's a bit further ahead since it require us to connect with the Gmail API. And to do that we need to go through a pretty extensive and costly security audit. Right now, our laser focus is on creating the most productive single player experience with all the time saving features we can build without going through the review.
I have played around with FrontApp previously, but it seems more geared towards sales and customer teams. We are building for all off those people who have to organize several chaotic projects with multiple clients, because that is what we missed for ourselves :)
I like the Sequence feature from Gmelius, but it would be nice to be able to add one to an existing email (vs when you create it) and it would be great to see a list of automated actions yet to be performed, so I can edit.
@john_faig Gotcha, we have been playing around with something like that, but unfortunately I can't promise anything right now. We have a bunch of other stuff we need to nail first. But we'll add it to our suggestions box. Thanks for taking the time, and please keep the feedback coming 🤓
@laura_martinezo Thanks Laura! Projects are all private and personal for the moment, but we see the need for inviting extra people, so this planned for future releases. Please see my response to @felipe_otalora for an explanation why.
feel like my game just got upped by a significant margin. While it would take a LOT for me to move away from Trello, this is the first promising alternative I've found in years - well done!
@henningsillerud One thing I think might be cool is the ability to add collaborators. I'd love to be able to assign the to do items to my VA, for example
@ollie_brooke Aha! Then I will excitedly try to help you! 😁Mobile apps and Zapier integrations are still a bit further out on our roadmap. What kind of things would you want to use a Zapier integration for?
@henningsillerud Sounds great Henning :) I'm not sure but maybe a trigger everytime a "to do" is ticked off? This could work well with something like Toggl or even Rescuretime
Also, as I tick off "to dos", it would be cool to be able to build a list of completed items that can be emailed back to the client.
For example, I'm currently working through 3 emails from the same client (each email refers to changes on a specific page).
As I work, I know I need to update the client to let them knw I've done everything but at this point I'll either reply to all 3 emails individually or send a single email referencing each request/email.
It'd be cool to just send a collated list of activites completed...
I love this idea. Less tools, less distractions. Onboarding was smooth. I migrated my Trello tasks to here within few minutes after downloading it.
Would be nice to have a reminder feature where it starts sending reminder email after deadline is passed.
Also would be nice to have multiple statuses for tasks. It's just todo and done.
@jaeseok_an Nice! Glad to hear the onboarding felt smooth for you. The reminder feature you asked for is defintitively in the pipeline! As for multiple statuses on tasks, we are a bit unsure of how to add it without cluttering the interface. Which other statuses would you need? And do you have an example of what you want to use it for?
@henningsillerud I was thinking about Trello style.
One version would be having 3 separate boxes "todo" "doing" "done", and I should be able to move tasks between those boxes.
Another version is, by default, it only shows todo / doing tasks, and I can just update the status by clicking the task, and select status from a dropdown menu.
@designmonkey Omg, that's painfully similar! 🙈Haven't heard of them before, but they have obviously been around for longer than us, and we can't have the same logo. Need to look into this.
